Black River Entertainment has signed hit songwriter and artist Ray Fulcher, who brings a loyal fanbase which has streamed his music more than 30 million times.

He shared news of the label signing with his fans first, saying, “Fans are the reason I write songs. They are the lifeblood of our industry, and without them, this wouldn’t be possible, so it’s only right for them to know first.”

Fulcher is a frequent collaborator of Luke Combs with writing credits on Combs’ No. 1 singles “When It Rains It Pours,” “Even Though I’m Leaving,” “Does To Me” ft. Eric Church, and “Lovin’ On You.”

Signed to Black River Entertainment in 2021, Fulcher is working with producer Jonathan Singleton and is set to support Combs this fall on the What You See Is What You Get Tour.

Black River joins Fulcher’s team including WME, Universal Music Publishing, River House Publishing, and Badlands Management.

“What a great day for all of us!” said Black River’s President and CEO Gordon Kerr. “What an impressive team we are now partnered alongside. Most importantly, what an artist! We are honored to step into this already impressive journey and can’t wait to see what is in store for Ray!”

Fulcher shared, “I always knew I didn’t want to sign anywhere unless they really believed in our music and vision as much as we did ourselves. They had to really get the songs and what we wanted to do with them and believe that I was the guy to carry them to the masses. With Black River, we have gotten all that and more…and the more I’ve gotten to know the people, the more I see what a great group of not just professionals they are, but humans. Just felt like a real easy decision.”

Growing up in Harlem, Georgia, Fulcher’s biggest influences were Alan Jackson, Keith Whitley, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Church, and George Strait. He moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting after graduating from the University of Georgia in 2014. Soon after, he signed his first publishing deal with River House Publishing. Fulcher has released the EPs Here We Go Again and Somebody Like Me.

On The Cover: MusicRow Magazine’s Country Radio & Streaming Issue Features Florida Georgia Line

MusicRow Magazine’s 2021 Country Radio & Streaming Issue, with BMLG Records duo Florida Georgia Line gracing the cover, releases today (Feb. 16).

For their fifth album, Florida Georgia Line doubles down on what they do best: deep grooves, earworm hooks, and carpe diem-style songs for anyone who loves life, loves God, and loves having a good time. Whether a forever ballad like “Always Gonna Love You,” the phased vocals and hip-hop stroll of “Ain’t Worried Bout It,” the banjo-flecked small-town philosophy of “Life Rolls On,” or the lush soul sexiness of “Hard To Get To Heaven,” Brian “BK” Kelley and Tyler Hubbard continue creating the soundtrack for people who are enjoying every minute.

The first country act to receive two Diamond certifications for “Cruise” [11x Platinum breakout track that spent 24 weeks at No. 1], and record-breaking, 10x Platinum collaboration with Bebe Rexha “Meant to Be” [50 straight weeks at No. 1], FGL knows how to drill into the moment.

Working with acclaimed songwriter/producer Corey Crowder for the first time, LIFE ROLLS ON shows America’s favorite party duo finding a new elevation beyond the CMA, ACM, Billboard Music, Teen Choice, and American Music Awards accolades. Recorded mainly in the Bahamas, these fresh, light songs have everything fans love with a little bit more room to breathe. With the vivid acoustic instruments shining through on “Long Live,” and buzzing-off trademark FGL vibes with “Beer:30,” it’s still drive time power rotation for the people gearing up for their workday or party. But that’s just the beginning… Over 16 tracks, BK and Tyler renew all the things that made them America’s good time brokers and pals down the block.

FGL is signed with their own Tree Vibez Music for publishing, aligned with performing rights organization BMI, managed by Irving and Jeffrey Azoff at Full Stop Management, and booked by WME.

Renowned songwriter and member of The Highwomen, Natalie Hemby, has signed a worldwide recording contract with Fantasy Records and will release a new solo album later this year.

Since signing her first publishing deal at age 19, Hemby has earned eight No. 1 country singles, including Lady A’s “Downtown;” Justin Moore’s “You Look Like I Need A Drink;” Jon Pardi’s “Heartache Medication;” Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” and “Tornado;” and Miranda Lambert’s “White Liar,” “Automatic,” and “Bluebird.” Her songs have also been recorded by Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris, Sheryl Crow, Lady Gaga, Dierks Bentley, Eli Young Band, Kelly Clarkson, Rag’n’Bone Man, Labrinth, and more.

Hemby released her first solo album, Puxico, in 2017. In 2019, she teamed with Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires to form The Highwomen.

The upcoming solo album, produced and mixed by her husband Mike Wrucke, will be Hemby’s first for Fantasy. She joins a roster at Fantasy Records that includes Tanya Tucker, James Taylor, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Paul Simon, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, and more.

“Both Mick Management and Fantasy Records have an exceptional and eclectic roster of artists they work with,” said Hemby. “Their teams are some of the most respected in the music business. I’m so proud to be a part of their musical families…it is truly a dream come true for me.”

“Natalie Hemby is a masterful singer-songwriter, a visionary artist, and a dynamic, influential presence among Nashville’s creative community,” said Fantasy Records President Margi Cheske. “We’re thrilled to welcome her to the Fantasy family and look forward to working closely with the great team at Mick Management to bring this incredible new album to the world.”

Sony Music Publishing Rebrands, Revitalizes Mission

The Sony Music Publishing name has returned after 25 years, introducing a new brand identity with a redesigned logo and revitalized mission.

Driven by the leadership of Chairman & CEO Jon Platt, the renewal of the Sony Music Publishing name signifies the company’s desire to identify as “A Creative Entertainment Company with a Solid Foundation of Technology.”

The refreshed logo is designed as an abstraction of sound waves—with resonance and vibrations that express infinitely expanding opportunities for songwriters. Complementing the symbol, the Sony Music Publishing ethos is ‘every voice matters’, elevating the vision and goals of songwriters.

Sony/ATV was established in 1995 through a joint venture with Michael Jackson that brought together the original Sony Music Publishing with Jackson’s ATV Music. Jackson had acquired ATV Music, which owned the Northern Songs catalogue, in 1985. Northern Songs owned the rights to all the songs that John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote during their time with the Beatles. In 2016, Sony acquired the Michael Jackson Estate’s 50% share of Sony/ATV making it a wholly owned Sony company.

Sony Music Publishing Chairman and CEO Platt commented, “Sony Music Publishing has always embraced the power of songwriting to connect cultures and bring people together. Since its inception, Sony Music Publishing has supported the careers of songwriters and continues to defend their rights. Returning to the Sony Music Publishing name reconnects us to our legacy and further unifies our mission and culture with the Sony Corporation. Our new brand embodies a modern vision to be an authentic reflection of the music and songwriters we represent.”

Sony Music Publishing Nashville CEO Rusty Gaston spoke to MusicRow about the rebrand and its implications for the company’s Nashville presence.

“Jon Platt came in as a new Chairman and CEO 18 months ago, and he has done such an incredibly terrific job at transforming the entire company’s culture,” Gaston tells MusicRow. “Part of this rebrand is breathing a fresh and new life into what he has done to this company in general; making the focus on relationships and service. When he came in, he was very vocal about wanting this company to be the destination for the world’s greatest songwriters. This rebranding is a natural evolution of the way he is transforming this company and it’s all incredibly positive.”

Gaston, who is also newly at the helm of Sony Music Publishing’s Nashville office, is excited about the company refresh.

“It’s really exciting because I’m brand new here as well. I’ve only been here a year and I walked in with the same passion and enthusiasm that Jon Platt did for the company overall. It was about making the focus of this Nashville office to be on one-on-one relationships with songwriters and about us providing hands-down, the very best service the songwriter could possibly get in Nashville.”

He says that the Sony Music Publishing Nashville office is getting a refresh as well, with the space being renovated.

“I am incredibly excited about when we come out of this pandemic, not only are we going back into a new Sony Music Publishing campus on Music Row, but it’s going to be completely renovated and it’s going to be the actual destination that songwriters want to come to.”

Gaston sums, “It’s a new culture and in Nashville, we’re going to have a brand new space.”

Kane Brown and Sony Music Nashville have launched a new record label, 1021 Entertainment, with Restless Road as the first signing. The trio comprised of Zach Beeken, Colton Pack and Garrett Nichols have released their first single via the joint venture, “Took One Look At Her Momma.”

Brown has been mentoring the group for some time, including take them on the road as openers on his Worldwide Beautiful Tour.

Said Brown, “I want to give people chances to succeed. With 1021 Entertainment, I feel like we have a platform and team that can mentor and build up talent in country music. With my own label, I want to use it as an opportunity to shape and promote artists that may not have gotten a chance otherwise, for Restless Road and others in the future.”

“We are excited to welcome Restless Road to the Sony Music Nashville roster. Colton, Zach, and Garrett each bring undeniable talent, dedication, and innovation to this trio. It has also been rewarding to collaborate on this project with Kane and watch him mentor and advise as a label partner in ways only a superstar artist can,” said Margaret Tomlin, Sony Music Nashville Director, A&R.

Restless Road’s self-titled debut EP (released in February 2020 by Sony) was produced by Dann Huff and co-producer Lindsay Rimes. The trio, which is signed to Sony Music Publishing, co-wrote three of the four songs with a roster of hit-making collaborators.
