GAC To Air “Country at the White House”

brad-paisley-ar10Great American Country will debut its exclusive coverage of Country at the White House, with performances by Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss and Charley Pride, on Sat., Aug. 15 at 8 PM/CT.

The coverage of the invitation-only event at the White House will give fans a front row seat to both the afternoon educational workshop and evening concert events.

Created by First Lady Michelle Obama  to encourage arts and arts education, the country music event was the second in a series that launched in June. More than 125 students – including 40 from Nashville’s W.O. Smith Music School, sponsored by the CMA – gathered in the White House Grand Dining Room for an afternoon workshop that included a Q & A and performances by Paisley and Krauss. GAC host Storme Warren was in the heart of it.

Music City was represented by audience members Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen, Congressman Jim Cooper, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, GAC president and W.O. Smith Music School board member Ed Hardy, and many others.

“Crook & Chase” To Tape At Ford Theater

crook-and-chaseThe Crook & Chase television show will launch a special series taping at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum’s Ford Theater on Aug. 4. The first episode will feature Joe Nichols debuting two songs from his upcoming album in an acoustic performance. Because each show will also feature a Hall of Fame member, Statler Brother Jimmy Fortune will be on hand for the first week to talk about his induction and perform.

The Crook & Chase Hall of Fame Super Series! will be taped before a live audience every Tuesday from 3 -4 PM, Aug. 4 through Sept. 8. Audience seating is complimentary with paid admission to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum or for Museum members. A highlight will be the Aug. 11 visit by new Hall of Fame inductee and legendary entertainer Barbara Mandrell.

This unique partnership with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum expands the ongoing mission of Crook & Chase via their national television, radio, and internet platforms to present Nashville as an exciting tourist destination. Specifically, this series is designed to support the Museum’s membership initiative, as well as spotlight the exhibits and programming.

The Crook & Chase Hall of Fame Super Series! will air Thursdays at 7 PM/CT, and Saturdays at 6 PM/CT on RFD-TV from Aug. 13 through Sept. 19.

Country Music Hall of Fame member Roy Clark donated several items to the Country Music Hall on Fame® and Museum on Saturday (7/18).  The artifacts, which will be on display beginning August 1 in the Museum’s permanent exhibit, include a magenta three-piece Manuel suit with an embroidered silver lame` Manuel shirt, patent leather Tony Lama boots, and a Heritage H-535 Roy Clark Signature model electric guitar. Mercury Nashville recording artist Billy Currington will perform on CBS’ the Late Show with David Letterman Wed., Aug. 19. His single “People Are Crazy” tops the monitored charts this week, marking his fourth No. 1 and fastest-rising single of his career. It is the second No. 1 from Currington’s album Little Bit Of Everything, which is at No. 10 on Billboard’s Current Country Albums Chart.

The legendary Flatlanders Joe Ely, Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale Gilmore —  appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman last night (7/21) before heading overseas for a three week tour of Europe. Upon their return, the New West Records band will be on NPR’s Mountain Stage on Aug. 16, and debut at the Grand Ole Opry on Sept. 18.

Holly Williams, David Nail, Jeff Cook, and The Oaks

hollyNewcomer Holly Williams is profiled in this week’s People magazine, dated July 27th and on stands today (7/17). The story of her music and life has also garnered the interest of National Public Radio, which will feature her Sunday, July 19 on “Weekend Edition.” The show airs in Nashville on WPLN from 7-9 AM/CT. And making her fifth national television debut this year, Williams will perform on CBS’ The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson Wed., Aug. 12.

David Nail‘s brand new video for his single, “Red Light,” premiered on CMT.com this week and will go to all outlets next week. Shot in Nashville, the video features his new bride, Catherine. Nail has also been featured on MLB.com. Last weekend, leading into the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, he served as a St. Louis tour guide for the MLB.com audience, talking about growing up in Missouri and his favorite St. Louis hangouts.

Jeff Cook, of Country Music Hall of Famers Alabama, will make a musical appearance on the nationally syndicated television show The Daily Buzz this weekend. Cook, now with his Allstar Goodtime Band, will be in Orlando, FL today (7/17) to perform his current single and the title track from his latest solo-release, “Ashes Won’t Burn.”

The Oak Ridge Boys, promoting their new Spring Hill Records album The Boys Are Back, appeared on the Game Show Network during Game Show Live yesterday (7/16).  The Oaks joined the show via Skype.  Today (7/17) they performed as part of the Fox & Friends Summer Concert Series, and tomorrow will visit the CBS Early Show, before heading to a concert appearance in New Jersey later that night. The following week on July 23rd, The Oak Ridge Boys will appear on the nationally syndicated mid-day show Better TV.  Other appearances include SiriusXM, FoxNews.com, Fox Entertainment Feed, and United Stations radio.

Aldean Wrangles Hits, Jean Deal, Conan

aldean1Jason Aldean‘s “Big Green Tractor,” is plowing its way toward the Top 10 of MusicRow‘s Country Breakout chart; currently No. 16 and the fastest rising single of the Georgia-native’s career. The song has fueled over 40,000 digital downloads a week, helping his already Gold certified third album Wide Open move an average of 22,000 units per week. Aldean is in the Top Five of SoundScan’s Country Albums Chart.

Aldean has also been tapped by iconic American denim maker Wrangler Western Wear to back its contemporary new jean line, The Wrangler Retro Line, which will hit stores in August. As the exclusive spokesperson for the new Wrangler Retro collection and the face of the robust marketing campaign—including national television, print, radio and online advertising along with integrated in-store marketing support—Aldean joins the King of Country Music George Strait in the Wrangler family.

Fans can catch Aldean headlining his Wide Open arena tour and opening dates for Keith Urban in the coming weeks. He will also perform on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien on Thurs., July 23 and tape an episode of E!’s highly rated late night talk show Chelsea Lately on Tues., July 28.

GAC To Present The Best of Soundstage: Great American Country (GAC) is pleased to present the best of the legendary music television series, Soundstage, and will air nine Country episodes beginning with Sugarland on July 12 at 7 PM/CT. The groundbreaking series aired from 1974–1985 before returning in 2003 and continues to feature outstanding high definition concert performances. The schedule is: Alison Krauss + Union Station (7/19), Trace Adkins (7/26), Lee Ann Womack/Billy Currington (8/2), Trisha Yearwood (8/9), Travis Tritt/Nickel Creek (8/16), Martina McBride (8/23), Kenny Chesney (8/30), and a George Jones Tribute (9/20).

Flatts Set For Today Show: Rascal Flatts will head to the Big Apple this Friday, July 10 to perform on NBC’s Today show as part of the Summer Concert Series. They’ll perform new single “Summer Nights,” from their latest album Unstoppable, as well as a couple of their biggest hits. The date of the appearance also coincides with lead singer Gary LeVox’s birthday. Gary, Jay and Joe Don will then head back out on their Rascal Flatts American Living Unstoppable Tour with two dates in New York this weekend- Darien Center and Syracuse.

American Badass Beer: Consumers will get their first taste of Kid Rock’s new American Badass Beer at a July 17 concert in his hometown of Detroit. Kid poured $7 million into the venture which has reportedly boosted the economy in his home state by creating about 400 jobs. He is said to have played a major role in everything from the beer’s taste (American style lager) to the design of its label.

How Artists Are Spending the 4th

Broken Bow Records' Dean Brody will be included in "Operation Music City," a special to air on the Pentagon Channel over the 4th of July weekend.  While the talented singer/songwriter's newest single, "Gravity," will hit the hearts of radio listeners with its romantic message of undying love.     Starting July 3rd through 5th, members of the U.S Armed Forces will be able to tune into the Pentagon Channel to watch Sgt. Ted Macdonald interview Brody and talk about his debut single, "Brothers." The top 25 single connected with military families across the world due to its honest lyrics and touching sentiment. The Pentagon Channel broadcasts military news and info for 2.6 million members of the U.S. Armed Forces and is distributed 24/7.

Nashville always celebrates the 4th of July with style and this year’s 25th anniversary event will be better than ever with headliner Wynonna Judd performing alongside the Symphony Orchestra. The Riverfront Park free festivities will begin at noon with the Family Fun Zone, presented by Coca-Cola. The NowPlayingNashville.com First Stage will feature music beginning at 2 PM with Frankie Ballard, The Grascals, MTA’s “Transit,” Lee Roy Parnell and more. The main stage concert will kick off at 7 PM with the Fisk Jubilee Singers and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra performing the national anthem, then there will be a patriotic salute by Mayor Karl Dean, followed by The Gabe Dixon Band and Wynonna. The evening will conclude with fireworks dancing to the rhythm of the Nashville Symphony at around 9:25 PM. Charlie Daniels, Phil Vassar and Jimmy Webb will appear on a new singer-songwriter series called Legends & Lyrics, airing Saturday, July 4 at 10 p.m. on local Nashville public television channel WNPT. The program, which debuted on May 9, pairs legendary songwriters and performers with promising new talent in an “in-the-round” writer’s format that features performances and interviews with the artists. Daniels recently returned from his third international trip to visit military troops in Iraq and Kuwait and is currently touring the U.S. through the end of 2009.

StarCity Recording artist Brady Seals visits host Harry Chapman on the set of News Channel 5+’s Words & Music this Sat., July 4 at 4:00 pm. Words & Music: The Showcase for Nashville’s Songwriters gives viewers an inside look at some of the area’s most successful songwriters and the stories behind some of their biggest hits. Seals will perform “God Blessed Texas,” a #1 single he co-wrote during his time with Little Texas, and “Ho Down,” the debut single from his upcoming solo album, Play Time.

CMA Fest To Rock TV, First Awards Ballot Coming

Country Music takes center stage when CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock airs Monday, Aug. 31 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network. Filmed in Nashville June 11-14, the special has been expanded to three hours. Kenny Chesney, Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Sugarland and Taylor Swift are the first performers to be confirmed, with more artists to be announced soon. This year an average of 56,000 fans attended each day of CMA Music Festival, its biggest turnout yet. CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock is executive-produced by Robert Deaton and directed by Gary Halvorson.

In related CMA news, ballots for the Nominating Round of the CMA Awards will be emailed out tomorrow (6/30). Below are the changes for the upcoming CMA Awards:
• The top 20 qualified vote recipients on the Nomination Ballot will advance to the Second Ballot in categories 2-12. In category 1 (Entertainer of the Year), the top 15 qualified vote recipients will advance to the Second Ballot.
• The Horizon Award is now the “New Artist of the Year” Award.

Organizers have confirmed a major new country music festival in Baton Rouge, to be held Memorial Day Weekend 2010 (May 29-30, 2010) at the LSU Tiger Stadium. The brains behind the event are heavy hitters Festival Productions, Inc.–New Orleans (which produces the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival), AEG Live and The Messina Group. It is tentatively dubbed the Bayou Country Superfest. The Festival’s talent lineup, ticket structure, hotel information and many other details will be released this fall.

The Hannah Montana soundtrack was the only Country album to receive an RIAA certification during May. That album—which blurs the Country/pop line but falls under the Country SoundScan category—went Platinum in only two months. This is Miley Cyrus’ ninth career Platinum award.

BNA Records has reissued Craig Morgan’s latest album That’s Why with the new single “Bonfire” added to it. Also added to the disc is Morgan-penned tune, “This Ain’t Nothin’.” “Bonfire” hit radio last month and is proving to be one of the fastest rising songs of Morgan’s career.

Sugarland will perform on PBS’s Soundstage on July 2. The acclaimed primetime music television series will showcase Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush playing their moving songs such as “Joey,” hits like “Stay,” and “Baby Girl,” as well as covers including ones originally done by fellow Georgians R.E.M.

Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad. JALC invites ensembles specializing in jazz, urban/hip hop and American roots music such as bluegrass, blues, Cajun, country, gospel and zydeco to apply. As part of the program, ensembles tour internationally with The Rhythm Road to promote cross-cultural understanding through their music. “Levon Helm–Ramble at the Ryman” Airs Tonight

levonPBS (WNPT ch. 8 in Nashville) will premiere Levon Helm — Ramble at the Ryman tonight (6/25) at 8 PM. The show will also be part of their featured national Pledge Drive Campaign beginning in August 2009.

The Ramble at the Ryman was an historic evening. On the opening night of the Americana Music Festival and Conference last fall, the legendary Helm gathered an unparalleled group of musicians and special guests including Sam Bush, Sheryl Crow, John Hiatt and Buddy Miller for a night of stage magic. The performance is a veritable tour through the Americana songbook, featuring beloved tunes from Helm’s tenure with The Band, as well as selections from Dirt Farmer and classics from artists such as Chuck Berry, the Carter Family, and more. Captured in HD, Levon Helm–Ramble at the Ryman was produced by High Five Entertainment, Dirt Farmer Music and the Americana Music Association.
