Helping Haiti: Benefits With Superstars, Locals

taylor_swift_13557The ultimate superstar telethon for Haiti relief efforts airs tonight (1/22) at 8/7 PM/CT on all the major networks and cable outlets. Taylor Swift and Keith Urban are among the A-list celebs set to sing on Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief. The two-hour telethon will also feature performances by Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira, Sting, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Coldplay, Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z, and Rihanna. Jean, George Clooney and CNN’s Anderson Cooper, will host. Other stars will be answering the phones for donations.

The musical performances will be available for purchase through iTunes beginning tomorrow (1/23), with proceeds benefiting Haiti relief funds. As the most widely distributed telethon in history, the event can be found on numerous television networks and will be live streamed on numerous Web sites and mobile phone carriers.

Before the big telethon, the Gospel Music Channel is world premiering the video for “Are You Listening: A Love Song for Haiti” at 6 PM/CT. Kirk Franklin spearheaded the charity recording in Nashville, and more than 150 participants joined the cause including BeBe & CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams, Natalie Grant, Mary Mary, and Jeremy Camp, who were in Music City for the 25th Annual Stellar Awards.

Charity outreach organization Can-Do has joined forces with Livin The Music to create Project Haiti and is accepting supplies for drop-off at Sound Stage in Nashville (1420 Cowan Ct. 37207, 9am – 5pm). Toby Keith has donated 7 trailers/trucks to be filled with supplies and shipped to Haiti. You can follow the supplies that you donate, on-site operations in Haiti, or make an online donation here. Items needed: Medical supplies (first aid kits, bandages, rubbing alcohol, wipes, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, Tylenol…etc.), soap, purified water, hydration containers, non perishable food, baby formula, diapers, work gloves, tarps, face masks, headlamps, clothing, and blankets.

Radio stations are banding together for a one-day national radio event on Feb. 1 to help Haiti through Compassion International. “Help Haiti with Compassion” has a radio tool kit for stations. Rich, The Roots Union and Scott Simontacchi are set for Nashville Reaches Out: A Benefit For Haiti. It will be at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, at Third & Lindsley. Cost is $10. All proceeds will go to Yele Haiti. The event is headed up by Broocke, Johnson and publicist Jill Garrett.

Swift, Urban On Superstar Concert For Haiti

kuTaylor Swift and Keith Urban are among the A-list celebs set to sing on the all-star television concert special Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief. For the two-hour telethon this Friday, Jan. 22, at 8/7 CT, there will be performances by Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira, and Sting in New York City; Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, and Swift, and a group performance by Urban, Kid Rock, and Sheryl Crow in Los Angeles; and Coldplay, and a group performance by Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z, and Rihanna in a newly added London location. The show will air on all the major networks, many cable channels, and will be streamed online at a number of sites (complete list below).

All musical performances will be available for purchase for $.99 per song through the Apple® iTunes® Store beginning Saturday, Jan. 23, with all proceeds benefiting Haiti relief funds managed by “Hope for Haiti Now” charities.

tsIn addition to musical performances, Wyclef Jean in New York City, George Clooney in Los Angeles, and CNN’s Anderson Cooper reporting from Haiti, Hope for Haiti Now will feature more than one hundred of the biggest names in film, television, and music supporting the cause with testimonials and by answering phones during the telethon.

In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, MTV Networks is presenting Hope for Haiti, a global telethon to air commercial-free across ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1, and CMT on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT and 7:00 p.m. CT. Leading the charge will be George Clooney in Los Angeles, Wyclef Jean in New York City and CNN’s Anderson Cooper from Haiti. Musical performances and celebrity appearances are yet-to-announced. Proceeds will be split evenly among Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF and Yele Haiti Foundation. Facebook and MySpace have also signed on as official social media partners.

Next month Gloriana and Kellie Pickler will return as openers for Taylor Swift‘s Fearless 2010 Tour when they head to Australia for several dates, and return to the U.S. for concerts March through June, most of which have already sold-out.

Swift, Lady A Set For Grammy Performances

taylor_swift_13557Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum are among the first performers announced for the Grammy Awards airing Sun., Jan. 31, 2010. They will join fellow nominees Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, and Maxwell, in performing at the 52nd Annual event, taking place at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. The show will air on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

Swift will vie for eight awards that night: Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year (with Liz Rose), and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “You Belong With Me”; Album Of The Year and Best Country Album for Fearless; Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals for “Breathe” (with Colbie Caillat); and Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song (with Liz Rose) for “White Horse.”

Lady Antebellum is nominated in two categories: Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals and Best Country Song (with Tom Douglas) for “I Run To You.”

Gretchen Wilson recently taped an episode of CMT’s Southern Fried Flicks television show with host Hazel Smith. The two enjoyed pork chops, corn casserole, and dreamsicle cake while catching up about Wilson’s single “Work Hard, Play Harder” and upcoming album on her own label. The episode will air on CMT Sunday, December 20.

A special episode of Opry Live featuring Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Jake Owen, and Rodney Atkins is set to air on GAC: Great American Country this Sat., Dec. 19 at 8:00 p.m. CT. The special was taped last month at the historic Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville. Meanwhile, the Opry is set to round out 2009 at the Ryman with performances by a bevy of new stars and all-time favorites. Lady A Set For Sugar Bowl, Titans Performances

They will open the Tennessee Titans home game vs. the St. Louis Rams on Dec. 13, at 3pm CST, and they will also ring in the New Year at the Allstate® Sugar Bowl matchup between the University of Cincinnati and the University of Florida in New Orleans, LA, Jan. 1, at 7:30pm CST. Both air on FOX.

Additionally, the trio will celebrate New Year’s Eve in the French Quarter, headlining the Allstate Fan Fest street concert to kick off the Allstate® Sugar Bowl festivities. The free concert begins at 6pm in the JAX Brewery Parking lot.

Rascal Flatts To Appear on “CSI”

carrieCarrie Underwood headlines a two-hour holiday variety special tonight (12/7) on FOX. She will perform Christmas classics, as well as music from her new album Play On and her other monster hits.
