Country legend Vince Gill and singer-songwriter Alex Hall were on hand at Waverly Central High School earlier this week to surprise the student assembly with $100,000 worth of instruments to replace and upgrade what the school’s bands lost in the recent flood.
“I’m a small town-minded guy. I know what it feels like. This is a place where everybody knows everybody,” Gill shared with CBS Mornings host Mark Strassmann. “I often feel like we should be like this all the time. That’s my dream. Let’s not just be kind when somebody’s struggling; let’s just be kind.”

KHS America, which was connected with band director Joseph Bullington as well as Gill and Hall via the CMA Foundation, donated over 40 instruments from their brands: Jupiter wind instruments, Majestic concert percussion, three XO Brass professional trombones, and a Mapex drum set. Percussion tables and a bell stand from Hercules were also included.
“KHS was founded on the principles of changing lives through music and the knowledge that music and music education are essential to society,” notes Jerry Goldenson, president of KHS America. “Supporting this incredible music program and being a part of this relief effort is something very special that will surely have a positive impact on the lives of young people and the community of Waverly as a whole. It’s an honor to be able to provide even a small bit of assistance.”

Chart Action: Thomas Rhett’s Chart Impact Anything But Slow
/by Alex ParryFollowing 18 career No. 1s, Thomas Rhett impacts country radio with his latest single, “Slow Down Summer.” The single earned 195 new station adds across the Billboard, Mediabase, and MusicRow CountryBreakout charts. Rhett is also the highest debut landing at No. 23 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, No. 30 on Mediabase, and No. 51 on MusicRow with the collective spin gain of +2,988 spins.
“Slow Down Summer” kicked off a fresh chapter of new music for Rhett as he sets his sixth studio album, Where We Started for release early 2022. The single was written by Rhett, Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure, Sean Douglas, and Rhett Akins and captures a red hot romance that’s destined to change with the seasons.
“I wrote this song from the point of view of two people who are in love during senior year of high school,” Rhett explains. “I envisioned them headed off to different schools and they’re starting to understand that the moment the weather starts to change, they’ve got a 99-percent chance this relationship is not going to work. I know that myself and a lot of people have been there before, wishing the fireworks stage doesn’t have to end.”

Judah & The Lion Unveil New Single Ahead Of New 2022 Studio Album
/by Lydia FarthingJudah & the Lion. Photo: David OD
Multi-Platinum alternative band Judah & the Lion have released the newest single from their upcoming album, slated for 2022. An alternative version of the new track, “Find Another Reason Why,” was originally released this September in the Netflix Original film The Starling.
“Find Another Reason Why” is Judah & the Lion’s second single of 2021 and follows May’s “Help Me To Feel Again,” which coincided with Mental Health Awareness month.
“As we start this new chapter as a band, we hope this song will set the tone for what’s to come. It’s a song about changing as a person. It is extremely hard to let go of the old self, and press on to something new,” the band shares. “But that surrender comes with a lot of growth and freedom. More to come.”
Judah & the Lion’s last studio album, the autobiographical Pep Talks (2019), was written in the midst of a turbulent year for frontman Judah Akers. The project tackled death, divorce, alcoholism and despair head on which landed at No. 7 on the Billboard 200.
More details about new music and their upcoming album will be shared in the coming months.
Joe Nichols Slates New Album ‘Good Day For Living’ For February
/by Lorie HollabaughPhoto: David “Doc” Abbott
Joe Nichols will kick off 2022 with the release of a long-awaited new album, Good Day For Living, on Feb. 11. A new song from the project, “Screened In,” written by Neil Thrasher and Anthony Jerome Martin, is out today.
The 13-song collection, his inaugural project for Quartz Hill Records and 10th studio album, ushers in a new era of classic country from Nichols. Good Day For Living reunites the traditionalist with producers Mickey Jack Cones and Derek George, who helmed his 2013 album Crickets which featured the back-to-back Gold hits “Sunny and 75” and “Yeah.” Cones also produced Nichols’ follow-up album Never Gets Old.
“For the first time in a long time, I don’t feel any pressure,” Nichols said. “I’m around great people. I’m the type of person who’s always striving for more, but I’ve reached a place where I’m grateful for everything I’ve accomplished so far. It’s been such a good run. I feel at peace, and that has freed me up to make new music that’s very honest.”
Other songs releasing in advance of the full album include “I Wanna Be Your Tonight” (Dec. 10) and the title track,” Good Day For Living” (Jan. 28). The entire project is a nod to Nichols’ traditional roots, showcasing his baritone on dancehall stunner “Brokenhearted,” the light and fun “I Got Friends That Do,” featuring Blake Shelton, and the classic country tear-jerker “She Was.”
