Mae Estes Signs With Big Machine Records

Singer-songwriter Mae Estes has signed with Big Machine Records and WME. Estes has also released her new single, “Thinkin’ ‘Bout Cheatin’ (Recycled)” today (Nov. 17) as she begins her next chapter, and is also celebrating her 30th birthday.

The Hope, Arkansas native got her start at age seven, performing the national anthem at a rodeo, and subsequently every rodeo and sporting event she competed in after that. Finally moving to Nashville in 2015, she eventually landed a publishing deal with Plaid Flag Music.

“Thinkin’ ‘Bout Cheatin’ (Recycled)” re-introduces the theme of temptation in a fresh style—portraying even more raw emotion than its earlier studio version. A nod to a sentimental track, “Recycled,” Estes is releasing updated versions of her previously-released tracks along with signing to Big Machine Records. She recently released the “Die In A Bar (Acoustic)” and “Die In A Bar (Recycled),” with “Run (Recycled)” and “Town Left Me (Recycled)” set for release Dec. 1.

“In much the same way that Carly Pearce and Lainey Wilson put in an incredible amount of time, effort, and perseverance to find their way to the top, Mae Estes has been doing the same, following in a lot of those same footsteps,” says Scott Borchetta, CEO & Chairman, Big Machine Label Group. “I’m so excited for her hard work to pay off and for the world to discover Mae!”

“I believe I have a God-given purpose to create music for complete strangers, making us both feel seen and like we belong to something bigger than ourselves. The opportunity to work with an absolute powerhouse like BMLG and getting my music to as many people as possible is a dream come true to say the least,” shares Estes. “I’ve always believed that hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard and I’m unbelievably grateful to have joined BMLG—a team that not only supports and believes in what I do (exactly as I authentically do it), but will also match the work ethic and passion. I was often told to ‘find my champions’ in this industry and after years of searching, I’m incredibly grateful to have found champions in Scott Borchetta and Allison Jones.”

Estes will close out the year with a host of performances at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas before joining Jackson Dean on his “Head Full Of Noise Tour” that kicks off Jan. 12.

DISClaimer Single Reviews: Mickey Guyton Gives ‘A Thrilling Take’ On Tina Turner Hit

Mickey Guyton performs Tina Turner’s “The Best” during CMT Smashing Glass: A Celebration of the Groundbreaking Women of Music. Photo: Jason Kempin/Getty Images for CMT

Country music’s men dominate this edition of DISClaimer.

Batting a thousand are Corey Kent, Randall King, Chris Stapleton, Levi Hummon and Walker Hayes, Kristian Bush, Travis Denning and Neal McCoy.

But wait, stepping up to the plate is Mickey Guyton, and she hits an out-of-the-park home run with a thrilling take on Tina Turner’s 1989 rock hit “The Best.” Turner has left us, but this performance lights up her memory like a fireworks display. Disc of the Day.

MICKEY GUYTON / “The Best”
Writers: Mike Chapman/Holly Knight; Producer: none listed; Label: MG
– Guyton tore the house down when she paid homage to Tina Turner during yesterday (Nov. 15)’s CMT Smashing Glass female special. Honorees Tanya Tucker and Patti LaBelle rocked along joyously in the audience while she strutted through this commanding performance. If you didn’t catch it, go to YouTube right now and check it out. Star-making stuff.

NEAL MCCOY / “First Time For Everything”
Writers: Porter Howell/Dwayne O’Brien; Producers: Brandyn Steen/Duane Propes; Label: NM
– McCoy’s cover of this 1992 Little Texas oldie is pristinely produced and perfectly executed. He takes it at a slow waltz pace while guitars twang all around him. Sounding good.

MUSTANGS OF THE WEST / “Down at the Palomino”
Writer: John Beland; Producers: Kirk Pasich/Colin Devlin; Label: Blue Élan Records
– The all-female quintet salutes the legendary California country nightclub with this sprightly bopper. Sunny and bright.

TRAVIS DENNING / “Going Places”
Writers: Travis Denning/Paul DiGiovanni/Jeremy Stover/Matt Mulhare; Producers: Paul DiGiovanni/Jeremy Stover; Label: Mercury Nashville
– His gal leaves town to make a name for herself. In his unhappiness, he boasts that he’s going places too. Except his “places” are the neighborhood bar. Denning’s delivery is country, country, country.

HANNAH ELLIS / “Too Much And Not Enough”
Writers: Hannah Ellis/Emily Weisband/Tofer Brown; Producers: Tofer Brown/Jason Massey; Label: Curb Records
– This closes Ellis’ new That Girl album. It’s a ballad that muses about the line a woman has to walk to balance others’ expectations and her sense of self. “Wine Country” is still the single, but this certainly adds another texture to her promising career.

CHRIS STAPLETON / “White Horse”
Writers: Chris Stapleton/Daniel Dodd Wilson; Producers: Chris Stapleton/Morgane Stapleton/Dave Cobb; Label: Mercury Nashville
– Southern rock lives! Stapleton conjures the memory of The Allman Brothers Band on this blazing barn burner. His electrifying voice is married to sizzling guitar work and a pounding rhythm track. Sit up and take notice.

BRITTNEY SPENCER / “Bigger Than The Song”
Writers: Brittney Spencer/Jennifer Anne Wayne/Tofer Brown; Producer: Marcus Lomax; Label: Elektra
– Spencer’s current single gets a stripped-down piano-vocal treatment in this new release. I’m down with it, because it showcases the cool lyric that name checks Reba, Aretha, Johnny & June, Janis, Dolly, Beyonce, Whitney and Alannis.

RANDALL KING / “Hang of Hangin’ On “
Writers: Brett Sheroky/Brice Long; Producers: Randall King/Jared Conrad; Label: Warner Music Nashville
– His country baritone is wonderfully resonant and warm, and this heartbreak ballad is a terrific showcase for it. This is a simply dreamy performance.

KRISTIAN BUSH / “House on a Beach”
Writers: Kristian Bush/Canaan Smith; Producer: none listed; Label: KB
– The Sugarland veteran has been mighty busy lately. He’s written and staged three musicals in Atlanta, produces new hitmaker Megan Moroney, is issuing a Christmas EP and dropped a 52-song set of four albums. This lovely acoustic track is a smooth, soothing float on gentle waves. Recommended.

KASSI ASHTON / “Genie In A Bottle”
Writers: David Frank/Pam Sheyne/Steve Kipner; Producers: Kassi Ashton/Oscar Charles; Label: MCA Nashville
– Moody and soulful, but this is definitely a pop artist.

LEVI HUMMON & WALKER HAYES / “Paying For It”
Writers: Levi Hummon/Walker Hayes/Eric Arjes; Producer: Eric Arjes; Label: Red Van Records
– She’s gone, but he’s still just as broke as when they were dating. “I’m still paying for it…’cause I’m drinking for two.”  Totally clever and totally cute. Essential listening. Also, I believe this is the first country lyric containing the word “wazoo.”

COREY KENT / “You Know”
Writers: Corey Kent/Austin Goodloe; Producer: Corey Kent; Label: RCA Nashville
– Kent is super charismatic here as he chronicles the chapters of a romance. I dig this guy’s simple eloquence in this acoustic gem. Get on board.

Texas singer-songwriter Dylan Gossett has signed with Big Loud Texas/Mercury Records in collaboration with Range Media Partners.

The announcement follows the recent release of his debut EP No Better Time last month, and the release of his single “Coal,” which has gathered over 50 million streams to date. “Coal” recently climbed to No. 35 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart and No. 24 on Billboard‘s Country Digital Song Sales chart, cracked the top 5 on Spotify’s Global and U.S. Viral 50 Charts, and peaked at No. 14 on the iTunes Country Chart and No. 36 on the All Genres Chart shortly after its release.

Written, recorded, produced and mixed by Gossett himself in his bedroom, No Better Time showcases the breadth of the Austin native’s talents. It debuted at No. 7 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart this week, and also features fan favorites “Beneath Oak Trees” and “Flip A Coin.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Dylan into the Mercury family,” says Tyler Arnold, President of Mercury Records. “He’s an incredible artist and songwriter, and it’s been a really memorable process getting to know him over the last few months. We truly believe he’s going to be a game changing artist for this generation.”

Miranda Lambert, Partner, Big Loud Texas says, “When I first heard Dylan’s song ‘Coal,’ I played it a few times because I wanted to catch all the ways he was sharing his life with us. To write and deliver something that is complex yet elegant lyrically and to also make it vulnerable is an art. After Jon [Randall] and I spent time with Dylan, we both agreed he is an artist Big Loud Texas was created to champion and support.”

“Dylan’s the kind of artist we are passionate about developing and investing in at Big Loud—a songwriter’s songwriter and incredible vocal talent who’s got something compelling to say through his music,” says Seth England, CEO/ Partner, Big Loud. “Thrilled to have him as the flagship artist launching our newest venture, Big Loud Texas, and honored to be part of telling his story.”

After releasing ‘Coal,’ Sam Katz, Federico Morris and I quickly realized we wanted to find the right kind of partner to jump in and help amplify the velocity of the song and clear a path for a unique artist who clearly draws his inspiration from his Texas country roots, but showed a clear desire to cross genres and have global appeal,” says Matt Graham, Managing Partner, Range Media Partners. “Mercury and Big Loud have both shown an ability to do this with their clients. The idea really appealed to Dylan, particularly when the opportunity to be the first artist on Big Loud Texas was put forward as a possibility. We couldn’t be happier with how it’s come together, and look forward to a tremendous partnership on a genre breaking artist.”

Gossett grew up in Austin and taught himself guitar in middle school. In between listening to classics from Alan Jackson, George Strait, Journey, The Eagles, Scorpions and Boston, he immersed himself in the records by Turnpike Troubadours, Flatland Cavalry and Cody Johnson. Throughout this college days at Texas A&M University, he never stopped playing and singing. In spring 2023, Gossett began posting his music online, eventually gaining traction with a cover of Flatland Cavalry. He first caught fire with his debut single “To Be Free,” which exploded on TikTok and amassed nearly six million Spotify streams to date.

Dierks Bentley Partners With WithCo Beverage Company

Dierks Bentley has joined forces with Nashville-based beverage company WithCo Cocktails in order to bring their non-alcoholic cocktail mixes, made of only fresh juices and real botanicals, to a bigger market nationwide.

The collection includes nine signature blends, including Bouquet, Espresso Martini, Ellis Old Fashioned, Agave Margarita, Hey Girl, Bloody Mary, Ginger Mule, Honey Sour and Paloma. The mixes can either be paired with a spirit or with soda water for a non-alcoholic option.

“Life is too short for a bad cocktail,” says Bentley. “When I first discovered WithCo during the pandemic, we kept it stocked at the house and then when we went back to work, I added it to my rider on the road too. We do a lot of entertaining, and I don’t want anyone to not enjoy their drink. WithCo totally takes the guesswork out of it.”

“We started WithCo with a dual purpose in mind,” shares co-founder Joshua Ellis. “We were tired of mediocre cocktails packed with additives, concentrates and nonsense ingredients, so we set out to raise the bar. Secondly, we recognized that life is just better in good company. So we adopted the simple name ‘WithCo,’ short for ‘With Company.’ Our mission? To encourage people to gather around and build community, one cocktail at a time.”

WithCo products can be purchased at Target and Sprouts stores nationwide, as well online at WithCoCocktails.com.
