Sony Music Nashville Shifts Cliff Blake From Arista To Columbia

Industry veteran Cliff Blake has recently been named Director, Northeast Regional Promotion for Sony Music Nashville’s Columbia imprint.

Norbert Nix, Vice President, Promotion for Columbia says, “We are fortunate and proud to have Cliff join the Columbia Nashville team, and look forward to excessive critical mass together!”

Blake was most recently Director, Regional Promotion for the label group’s Arista Nashville imprint. Based in Dover, N.H., Blake officially begins his new role on Monday, Sept. 14. He previously spent more than five years as part of the Columbia Nashville promotion team beginning in 2006.

Blake says, “This is all about the Sony Music Nashville family. I’m excited to move over to Columbia, and of course I wish continued kick-ass success to my friends at Arista!”

A New Hampshire native, Blake’s extensive industry background spans 25 years in broadcasting, followed by nearly 20 years in the record industry, during which he has been a five-time nominee for Regional Promotion Director of the Year.

John Marks, Sr. Director of Country Programming for SiriusXM in Nashville, is stepping down, due to personal reasons, MusicRow has confirmed. Marks will leave his post Sept. 22. His day-to-day responsibilities at The Highway will be taken over by Sr. Director of Music Programming Al Skop, while a search is underway for Marks’ replacement.

Luke Jensen has been named to the position of Manager, Regional Promotion for Arista Nashville. Based in Nashville, Jensen will report to VP, Promotion, Arista Nashville Lesly Simon and begin his new role Monday, Sept. 14. Jensen exits his post at Blaster Records, where he was Regional Manager of Promotion. The 19-year radio veteran’s previous career stops include Program Director at KVOO (Tulsa), and stints at KBEQ (Kansas City, Mo.) and WSOC (Charlotte, N.C.).

In welcoming Jensen, Simon remarks, “Luke is an admired colleague and friend whose experience and passion make him the perfect addition to our team. We are thrilled to welcome him to Arista Nashville.”

Blaster Records Sr. Vice President Of Promotion Bob Reeves announced today the appointment of Bart Allmand to the label’s promotion team as Regional Director. Allmand will start at the label Monday, Sept. 14 and will cover the Southeast Region.

The move reunites Allmand and Reeves, who last worked together at Monument Records.  Allmand was most recently VP, Record Promotion for Big Loud Mountain.

CMA Reveals 2015 Broadcast Awards Finalists

After helping Steven Tyler announce the nominees for the 2015 CMA Awards earlier this morning, Kelsea Ballerini teamed with ABC Radio to announce the 2015 CMA Broadcast Awards finalists for Radio Personality and Station of the Year. The nominees were surprised when the two-time CMA Awards finalist called under the guise of talking about the morning’s nominations.

“Radio has played such an important part in this amazing year that I jumped at the opportunity to call the stations to tell them they were nominated for a CMA Broadcast Award,” said Ballerini. “It has been an amazing day and I was really happy to share it with people who have contributed so much to my career.”

National Radio Personality of the Year nominees included “The Big D and Bubba Show,” “The Crook and Chase Countdown,” and “The Lia Show.”

The CMA Broadcast Award winners will be notified in mid-October and will be acknowledged at “The 49th Annual CMA Awards,” which will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) and broadcast live by the ABC Television Network from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

David Clapper has joined Big Loud Records as Southeast Region Director of Promotion, following the appointments of Stacy Blythe (National Director of Promotion) and Dave Kirth (West Coast Region Director of Promotion). Clapper will report directly to President Clay Hunnicutt.

Clapper spent the past 13 years at Cox Media Group in Atlanta, working in Promotions and Marketing, and as Director of Branding and Programming. Prior to Cox, he worked as Southeast Regional for MCA Records.

The core panel moderators have been announced for Country Radio Seminar 2016. The E.W. Scripps Company’s Beverlee Brannigan, radio vet Gregg Lindahl, and Falls Media Group’s Dan Halyburton are return moderators from last year. Bob Richards from WLHK/Indianapolis returns as a past moderator and RJ Curtis of All Access is named as a new moderator.

The moderators will oversee and direct the educational panels throughout the seminar, which is held Feb. 8-10 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville, Tenn.

Cumulus has added music industry exec Scooter Braun to serve as a guest judge during the NASH Next Challenge, which will discover and release music from promising country musicians. Braun joins fellow NASH Next judges, including producer James Stroud, artist and radio personality Kix Brooks, and Cumulus Executive VP of Content and Programming John Dickey.

The NASH Next Challenge grand prizewinner will be signed to the new NASH Next record label, and all of the top 10 finalists will participate in a national NASH Next concert tour next year. Winners will be decided based on a combination of the music industry judges, an original “Spin Index” of social media activity and online fan voting.

Braun, founder of entertainment and media company SB Projects, discovered artists including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Cody Simpson, each of whom he continues to manage. His roster also includes Dan+Shay, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Tori Kelly.

Friedman has worked at Sony Nashville for 15 years.
