Zac Brown, frontman of the Zac Brown Band, is launching a new entertainment and lifestyle-branded parent company, Zac Brown Collective, to house his many brands and businesses. Formerly known as Southern Ground, the re-imagined company expands its portfolio of brands and will act as a parent company to Brown’s growing interests in music, food, fashion, film, and merchandise.
The Collective brings together the best and brightest minds in all of those areas to form a company filled with brands that are fully grounded in the “American experience.”
Music – In the coming months, Zac Brown Collective will begin rolling out an expansion of its artist services aimed at aiding in the business and career growth of musicians. ZBC will offer its industry knowledge to other artists through this new venture, and available services will include, fan experience and fan club management, merchandise management, and artist management.
Food – Brown has had stakes in the food service industry for over a decade, starting with his original Zac’s Place restaurant at the start of his career to serving fans with his famous Eat & Greet while on tour. ZBC will build on these successes with ventures ranging from the newly-opened Zac Brown’s Social Club inside the brand new State Farm Arena, to its Remedy Bakeshop line of gluten free cookies and snacks, to its Z. Alexander Brown wine brand.
Fashion & Apparel – Zac has been designing and creating all tour merchandise in-house since the beginning of the Zac Brown Band and now, through ZBC, is building and expanding his reach into the broader men’s fashion category through the acquisition of LA-based Sheehan and Company – a made-in-the-USA, vintage inspired, men’s fashion line.
Film – Zac Brown’s film production company Southern Reel, led by director Diego Pernia, has produced many videos for Zac over the years, and recently worked with Cirque de Soleil to create a unique stage and video show for Zac’s southern-pop music project, Sir Rosevelt. ZBC is now expanding further into the feature film, TV and digital video realm with plans to move further beyond its work with the band.
Custom Design – Zac Brown’s in-house custom design company, ZB Customs, works with wood, metal and leather to design everything from custom cars, motorcycles, and trucks to one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, and more. ZB Customs’ vehicles have been presented at auction by top vehicle auctioneer, Barrett Jackson, and most recently, the team completed a massive custom project for Mack Trucks, bringing Brown’s design to a Mack Anthem truck.
Gear – Zac Brown’s affinity for the outdoors has gravitated him toward brands that create products aligned with his rugged aesthetic including his premium knife company, Southern Grind, and his audio company, DemerBox – makers of the indestructible, water-proof, bluetooth speakers capable of storing valuables.
“We’ve been working towards this development for years. My team and I are more than ready to roll out our roster of unique brands that embody our latest vision of delivering consumers a genuine American experience. It’s an exciting time for us and we can’t wait to show the world what we have to offer,” said Zac Brown. “I am also so proud that our work with Zac Brown Collective will aid in building a stronger future for Camp Southern Ground and its amazing mission.”
Zac Brown Collective will remain unwavering in its commitment to Brown’s biggest passion, Camp Southern Ground, by continuing to allocate funds and resources to the camp. Founded by Brown, the camp supports military and veteran families; further serving children with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, dyslexia, social or emotional challenges and typically developing children.

Industry veteran Jim Halsey has launched the Starmaker360 app for those wanting to learn more about the music and entertainment industry or advance their careers. Halsey digs into the fundamentals on the app: how to develop an act, how to get an agent, how to use the press to build your audience, how to play the biggest and best forums, etc..
The Jim Halsey Music Business Institute launched the app in partnership with MusicTO. The Starmaker360 courses contain informative interviews from key artists and innovative industry leaders such as Dr. Jim Halsey and his clients of 45 years, including: The Oak Ridge Boys, Dwight Yoakam, Roy Clark, Doc McGhee (CEO of McGhee Entertainment), Brian O’Connell (President of Live Nation Country Touring), Paul Sizelove (Vice-President of Gaither Music Group), Jeremy Westby (CEO of 2911 Media), and many others.
“I am so pleased to launch this program through the global iOS and Android app platform,” says Halsey. “All of the relationships we’ve built for decades will be a huge benefit to everyone wanting to learn more about the music and entertainment business. We were the first collegiate music business degree program (Oklahoma City University) receiving national accreditation as well as the Oklahoma Governor’s Arts and Education Award. This gives us another opportunity to share a wealth of knowledge and creative connectivity to thousands of app users.”
“I have personally seen the life altering effect that education has on individuals who have the unique opportunity to gain access to world class teachers who can assist them with achieving a career they dreamed of,” said Daniel J Steneker, Chairman of MusicTO Steneker. “As Chairman of MusicTO, partnered with Jim Halsey, we expect that the life experience of Dr. Halsey, delivered through our program, will make a long lasting impact on participants throughout their music industry careers. I believe the app technology deployed for the Institute delivers an exceptional level of interactivity between students and allows them to post commentary or share videos and audio tracks with other students or with Jim Halsey himself. Through sharing very detailed interest profiles, students meet and form bonds with other students whose interests are aligned with theirs.”
The first 500 students to download the Starmaker360 app will receive a special introductory price of $199 for access to the entire program.
The Bluebird Cafe has partnered with the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development for Tennessee Songwriters Week, which will take place February 17-23, 2019. During the week the Bluebird will hit the road for a string of open mic nights in Memphis, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Johnson City. The events emphasize a state statute honoring songwriters passed earlier this year, and will provide four winners with the chance to perform their original material at the historic Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
“To have the chance to expand our Open Mic throughout the state is so exciting and offers the chance to explore the wealth of songwriting talent that is inherent to Tennessee,” said Erika Wollam Nichols, general manager of The Bluebird Café.
The Bluebird Cafe’s long-time open mic night host songwriter, Barbara Cloyd, will host each event and a panel of local judges will select the top songwriter from each event. Those four winners will convene at The Bluebird Cafe on March 31 during Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival to perform for an audience that includes publishing professionals. Each winner also earns an additional prize pack, including passes to Tin Pan South.
Songwriters Events:
Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019 – Lafayette’s Music Room in Memphis
Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019 – The Camp House in Chattanooga
Friday, Feb. 22, 2019 – WDVX in Knoxville
Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019 – The Down Home in Johnson City
“Music is a universal language and is celebrated, performed and heard every day of the week in Tennessee and around the world,” said Commissioner Kevin Triplett, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. “Fans have been impacted by music recorded in Tennessee, which starts with the crafting of the song itself. Songwriters are the lifeblood of music that created the Soundtrack of America.”
The state statute annually designates the last full week of February as “Tennessee Songwriters Week.” The week is designed to celebrate the foundation of the craft, recognize past and present songwriters, and pave the way for future artists. Local businesses are encouraged to participate in Tennessee Songwriters Week by programming special events such as open mic nights and songwriter showcases that celebrate songwriters and drive visitation.
Tennessee’s deep musical roots are the cornerstone of Tennessee Tourism’s “The Soundtrack of America. Made in Tennessee” brand. The economic impact of tourism in Tennessee hit a record $20.7 billion, resulting in the collection of $1.8 billion in state and local taxes in 2017.

Newly-minted Grammy-nominees Florida Georgia Line have announced their fourth studio album, Can’t Say I Ain’t Country, will be released on Feb. 15 on BMLG Records. Additional details about Can’t Say I Ain’t Country, including its track listing and cover artwork, will be revealed soon.
“We’re excited. In February, we’re releasing our fourth album,” FGL’s Tyler Hubbard said. “I think Feb. 15 is the official date, so we’re really excited. We’ve been working on that album for over a year now, so BK and I are definitely ready.”
FGL’s Brian Kelley said, “You can say a lot of things. You can call somebody a lot of different names and have a lot of different opinions, but at the end of the day, when it comes to me and Tyler, you can’t say we ain’t country.”
After earning their first Grammy nomination for “Meant to Be” in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category, the duo continue to be celebrated, as Mayor Carolyn Goodman will declare today (Dec. 11) “Florida Georgia Line Day” in Las Vegas at City Hall.

Brantley Gilbert and Lindsay Ell have joined forces on a brand new duet, “What Happens In A Small Town,” about the fury of a stubborn love and its unrelenting memories. The tune, written by Gilbert, Brock Berryhill, Josh Dunne and Rhett Akins, was produced by Dann Huff and features Ell on guitar.
“It was great that they wanted me to play,” Ell said. “To be part of a song like this is great, but to be asked to play on someone’s song who I respect so much takes it up another level. Obviously playing in front of Dann Huff is something else, but he knew how to really push me to get a vocal that contains everything situations like this one are made of. Music, especially music that rocks this hard, crashes through pride, ego and whatever else is in the way. Being able to play on this opened up the feelings to me. When I went in to do the vocal, it was all about really channeling that pain.”
“This song builds and burns,” Gilbert said. “It really has that want for someone you can’t have, and having to live in all the places they are. I wanted to have someone on the record who could match those feelings, to really push the song. It’s not just any female singer who makes sense, and we knew that. Lindsay is a whole other kind of artist, and she understands that power.”
For Gilbert, the song definitely has a ring of truth to it as he went through a breakup and eventually a reconciliation with his now wife, Amber.
“Songs that come from your life just have another kind of power,” Gilbert said. “People can hear the difference, and they know. For this song, obviously I’m not the only guy–or girl–who’s been there, but I’m lucky and blessed enough to have been able to put it back together.”
“What Happens In A Small Town” arrives at radio December 14.

Toby Keith is closing out the year in an epic way, as he recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of his classic single “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” and the re-release of his debut album at a special party at BMI on December 5. The same week he also performed twice on the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman on December 7, and then received the prestigious Harmony Award from the Nashville Symphony the following night.
Last week, Keith released a new song, “Don’t Let The Old Man In,” which is featured during the final scene and closing credits of Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film The Mule. The story tells the tale of an older man who becomes an unwitting drug courier, and the song was inspired by a conversation Keith had with Eastwood during his golf tournament in Carmel, CA, where the two shared a cart. The busy month follows the release of Toby Keith – Should’ve Been A Cowboy [25th Anniversary Edition], which celebrates Keith’s debut album that spawned four hit singles including his No. 1 debut “Should’ve Been A Cowboy.”

/by Lorie HollabaughIndustry veteran Jim Halsey has launched the Starmaker360 app for those wanting to learn more about the music and entertainment industry or advance their careers.
The Bluebird Cafe, Tennessee Tourism To Host Open Mic Nights Across State Celebrating Songwriters Week
/by Lorie HollabaughThe Bluebird Cafe has partnered with the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development for Tennessee Songwriters Week, which will take place February 17-23, 2019.

FGL’s Brian Kelley said, “You can say a lot of things. You can call somebody a lot of different names and have a lot of different opinions, but at the end of the day, when it comes to me and Tyler, you can’t say we ain’t country.”

Brantley Gilbert, Lindsay Ell Lament Love That Won’t Die On New ‘Small Town’ Duet
/by Lorie HollabaughBrantley Gilbert and Lindsay Ell have joined forces on a brand new duet, “What Happens In A Small Town,” about the fury of a stubborn love and its unrelenting memories.
