A new boxed set collection of 47 previously unreleased Bob Dylan recordings, featuring collaborations with Johnny Cash, will be released Nov. 1 via Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings.
Titled Bob Dylan (Featuring Johnny Cash) – Travelin’ Thru, 1967 – 1969: The Bootleg Series Vol. 15, the series’ latest installment revisits Dylan’s pivotal trips to Nashville from 1967-1969, collecting previously unreleased recordings, in addition to sessions with Cash, that yielded albums including John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline and Self Portrait.
Disc One includes audio from Dylan’s recording sessions at Columbia’s Studio A in Nashville, including alternate versions of compositions written for John Wesley Harding (Oct. 17 and Nov. 6, 1967) and Nashville Skyline (Feb. 13-14, 1969), including “All Along The Watchtower” and “Lay Lady Lay.” The set also introduces a new song, “Western Road.”
Discs Two and Three of Travelin’ Thru include Dylan’s collaborations with Cash, including the Columbia Studio A sessions and on-stage performances at the Ryman Auditorium (May 1, 1969) for the recording of the premiere episode of The Johnny Cash Show, which originally broadcast June 7, 1969 on ABC. Disc Three concludes the set with tracks Dylan recorded with bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs on May 17, 1970 for the PBS television special “Earl Scruggs: His Family and Friends,” which originally aired in January 1971.
The set is available in 3CD and 3LP physical configurations and digital equivalent, and follows the 14-CD release The Rolling Thunder Review: The 1975 Performances.

DISClaimer: Sister Hazel, Niko Moon Top New Releases
/by Robert K OermannAs we continue to slog through the dog days of summer (even though it’s September), country music is doing its best to keep our spirits up.
Dolly and Vince are here with touching inspiration. Trisha and Garth are bringing the romance. FGL has family values in mind.
The Disc of the Day goes to the enduringly great Sister Hazel. These guys are bona fide survivors who have sold millions on their independent road.
Give Niko Moon a DisCovery Award. I don’t know much about him, except that he shows real promise.
SISTER HAZEL/Raising a Rookie
Writers: Andrew Copeland/Darius Rucker/Barry Dean; Producer: none listed; Publisher: Country Paper/Pulse Nation/Creative Pulse, no performance rights listed; Rock Ridge
– This five-piece Florida band has been at it for 25 years and continues to gather momentum since its move into country music in 2015. This lead track from its new EP finds the vocal harmonies in fine fettle. Lead singer Ken Block delivers with immense heart and charisma, and the power ballad about raising a boy to manhood is infused with truth and tenderness.
FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE/Blessings
Writers: Tyler Hubbard/Brian Kelley/Tom Douglas/Jessie Frasure/Jordan Schmidt/Keith Urban; Producer: Joey Moi & FGL; Publishers: Big Loud Mountain/T Hubb/Pranch Ringle/Round Hill Works/Sony-ATV Tree/Sony-ATV Countryside/Tomdouglasmusic/Warner-Tamerlane/Telemitry Rhythm House/Songs of Roc Nation/WB/Freshy/We-Volve, BMI/ASCAP; BMLG (track)
– I’ve been liking these guys more and more since they simplified things and got back to their country roots. The song is a lilting ode to home and family that glows with fireside comfort.
NIKO MOON/Good Time
Writers: Niko Moon/Anna Moon/Josh Murty; Producer: none listed; Publisher: Kobalt; RCA
– I like his country drawl laced with some r&b tones. The relaxed, back-porch vibe of this lazy-bones track is a little different, but decidedly ear catching. I could have done without the electronic loops.
KELSEA BALLERINI/Homecoming Queen?
Writers: none listed; Producer: none listed; Publisher: none listed; Black River
– All teens suffer from self-doubt and pain. Even homecoming queens. The new Opry member’s aching delivery of the ballad is perfect.
SEAN STEMALY/Back on a Backroad
Writers: Michael Hardy/Josh Kerr/Cole Taylor; Producer: Joey Moi, Lex Liptiz; Publisher: noen listed; Big Loud
– Processed vocal. Wall-of-electronics track. Cliche-cluttered, generic backroad lyric. This is contemporary “country” music.
JASON ALDEAN/We Back
Writers: none listed; Producer: none listed: Publisher: none listed; Broken Bow
– His superstardom continues to mystify me. With its irritating rock instrumentation, his back-of-throat singing and the blue-collar lyric, this sounds like just about everything else he has put out. Very successfully, I might add.
CHELY WRIGHT/Say The Word
Writers: none listed; Producers: Jeremy Lister and Dustin Ransom; Publishers: none listed; Painted Red
– As refreshing as a splash of cool water. The echoey track swirls around her minor-key melody while she sings in a dreamy, distant whisper. Americana programmers take note.
FOR KING & COUNTRY WITH DOLLY PARTON/God Only Knows
Writers: Josh Kerr/Jordan Reynolds/J. Smallbone/L. Smallbone/Tjornhom; Producer: none listed; Publishers: none listed; Curb/Word
– I know, I know, it’s Christian pop. But I was overcome with curiosity to hear what Dolly sounded like with the Smallbone brothers. Guess what? She can be just as pop, pop, popping as those CCM rockers. In that genre, this has already been an award-winning No.1 smash in 2018. With her extraordinary voice on it now, I predict a revival.
TRISHA YEARWOOD & GARTH BROOKS/What Gave Me Away
Writers: none listed; Producer: Garth Fundis; Publisher: none listed; Gwendolyn
– Trisha’s new CD includes her newest collaboration with her hubby. It has a sexy, after-midnight, groove-soaked vibe. The stinging r&b guitar solo and simmering organ notes in the background give it some extra juice. It’s really Trisha’s performance, but Garth’s supportive harmony vocal shadows her at every turn.
VINCE GILL/Nothin’ Like A Guy Clark Song
Writer: Gill; Producers: Gill/Justin Niebank;Publishers: none listed; MCA Nashville
– Over a rippling guitar track, he quotes Guy’s song titles, even sounding a little like his hero as he sing-speaks the verses. The choruses drive home the homage eloquently. On the last verse, he asks, “What do you do when your heroes die?” and answers again in Guy’s “voice.” Vince’s new Okie CD also includes “A World Without Haggard,” which is another elegy gem that’s well worth your attention.
Josh Turner Postpones Tour Dates Following Fatal Bus Crash
/by Jessica NicholsonJosh Turner
A tour bus carrying members of Josh Turner‘s road crew crashed Wednesday evening (Sept. 18) near Shandon, California, leaving one dead and seven passengers injured. The California Highway Patrol has identified the deceased as David Turner, 64, of Oxford, Mississippi. The Daily Journal reports that David is unrelated to Josh. David has been part of the country star’s road crew for more than a decade.
According to the the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, Turner and his band members were not aboard the bus, which crashed off of Highway 46 as it was leaving a concert in Paso Robles, California.
All of Turner’s remaining shows for September are being rescheduled for a later date.
“Josh Turner and his road family have suffered a devastating loss,” a rep for Turner tells MusicRow Magazine. “Please keep the crew, band and Josh in your thoughts and prayers.”
LOCASH Hits Road For One Big Country Tour
/by Lorie HollabaughAdditionally, the duo has released a video for their latest single, “One Big Country Song,” which will make its world premiere across CMT outlets on Sept. 24 before they join The Highway’s Music Row Happy Hour on Sirius XM with Buzz Brainard on September 27.
“Our goal for the video was to somewhat extend the sing-along moment that this song creates in our live show and capture the feeling of bringing people from every walk of life together to enjoy a moment,” said Preston Brust of LOCASH. “TK McKamy, who directed the video, had the know-how and the excitement to bring it all together and drive it home. He’s the man – we’re so proud of the end result.”

United Talent Agency (UTA) has inked a long-term lease for a new Nashville headquarters, to be located in a historic, three-story building at 225 Polk Ave. The Nashville team intends to move to the new location in the first quarter of 2020, following construction.
The new UTA space, located at the original site of the Carnegie Library, will feature a cafe lounge, a wellness room, outdoor terraces and views of Nashville’s state capitol, as well as a state-of-the-art performance space. Plans for the new space will incorporate some library memorabilia into the design, including an old book drop on the parking level of the property. Hastings Architecture are the architects on the project.
UTA’s Nashville office opened in 2012, and has grown to nearly 20 times its original size, and has promoted 10 employees in the past two years. The group represents touring headliners including Toby Keith, Clint Black, Trace Adkins, Craig Morgan and Clay Walker and has developed the careers of a diverse roster of clients including Blanco Brown, High Valley, Jimmie Allen, Matt Stell, King Calaway and Logan Mize.
“Nashville is a powerful creative hub, built on storytelling and compelling live entertainment,” said UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer. “We are excited for our new space to serve as a great resource for the creative community and are committed to building our presence in Music City.”

Edwards, a Dallas, Texas native, released her debut EP in 2009, followed by her sophomore effort in 2011, which held the No. 1 spot on the singer-songwriter charts upon its release. In 2014, she released Daydream, which charted at No. 6 on Billboard‘s New Artist Chart and No. 1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart. In 2016, she released COVERS, as well as the surprise EDM release “Magic” with DJ Thomas Gold, which earned over 58 million streams on Spotify.
She is a signed writer for Concord Music Publishing and has had original songs on television series including ABC’s Pretty Little Liars and Grey’s Anatomy, CMT’s Nashville, and most recently the movie A Dog’s Way Home. She has also opened for a variety of artists over the last few years, including Jon Foreman, Drew & Ellie Holcomb, Josh Garrels, Ben Rector, David Ramirez, the Civil Wars, and more.
“The first time I heard Jillian’s pure sweet voice I felt like I was looking straight into her heart…and from the songs she wrote and the way she told her stories I could tell it was a beautiful place,” shares Chapman. “I’m so excited to have Jillian as our newest artist signed on to The Stable Collective roster. I truly believe God has entrusted her with a remarkable gift to share with the world, and we are very honored to have the opportunity to serve her and her gift.”
“Both having roots in Texas, I’ve known about Jillian’s music for 10 years now,” explains Mattingly. “Through the years we’ve gotten together to dream and talk about ideas, but never on a formal level. This is such exciting news for us as a team to have her as a client. She’s an incredible talent, and it is a true honor to be in business with her.”
“Jillian’s melodies, lyrics, and voice are undeniably set apart and uniquely captivating,” says Avery Stanley of The Stable Collective team. “With her seamless angelic voice, she has a way of quieting an audience from the clutter of our world and awakening brightness in her listeners. I am so proud to partner with her, and have so much faith in her writing and her heart. To know Jillian’s music is to experience a sweet rush of hope, inspiration, and light.”
