New Livestream Documentary To Highlight Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
/by Jessica NicholsonDolly Parton. Photo: Rob Hoffman
The story behind Dolly Parton‘s Imagination Library will be highlighted in the free, one-night-only, livestream world premiere event The Library That Dolly Built, which will stream exclusively on Facebook on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. ET.
The screening will be followed by a conversation and live acoustic performance from Parton. Viewers can tune in to the live screening and conversation on FB.ME/dollysimaginationlibrary and ImaginationLibrary.com. In addition, the European premiere will be Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. GMT, and the Australian premiere will be Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. AEDT. The documentary was made possible by Dollywood and Abramorama in association with The Dollywood Foundation.
Parton created the Imagination Library in 1995 to help inspire a love of books and reading in young children; the initiative has since expanded into a global endeavor and recently gifted its 150 millionth book. The program currently sends books to 1.7 million children around the world each month. Earlier this year, Parton launched a weekly bedtime reading series, “Goodnight With Dolly,” which aired across Facebook and YouTube, earning over 15 million views. On Dec. 11, the film and the conversation with Parton will be released nationwide as a Watch Now @ Home Cinema Release, and in early 2021 across multiple digital platforms.
Parton said, “I am so excited that we can finally tell the whole story of the Imagination Library. It is certainly not just about me. Our story is the story of children, of families and communities who all share the dream to inspire kids to love to read and to love to learn. My hope is this documentary will encourage more towns, more states and even more countries to jump onboard. One thing is for sure, I think this is the best investment I have ever made!”
The Library That Dolly Built, directed and produced by journalism professor and director of Land Grant Films Nick Geidner, and narrated by Danica McKellar, goes behind the scenes of Parton’s Imagination Library, to show how one of the most famous and beloved performers in the world has partnered with thousands of local community organizations to develop an efficient and effective program for spreading the love of reading. Imagination Library started as a gift for the children in Parton’s hometown, Sevierville, Tennessee, and is now active in all 50 states, and five countries, gifting 1.7 million free, age-appropriate books to children every month. The film also provides a glimpse of the profound impact the Imagination Library has on the people through original interviews with authors, policymakers, Imagination Library staff, recipients, and the legend herself, Dolly Parton. Woven throughout the film is a biographical sketch of Parton, featuring rare photos and films from her childhood. Unlike most biographies of Parton, it doesn’t focus on her music. Instead, it demonstrates that at every point in her career, any time she has had success, Parton has come back to Sevierville to give back to her people.

Guitar Center Files For Bankruptcy Due To Pandemic Struggles
/by Lorie HollabaughAs announced on Nov. 13, Guitar Center has secured new financing to implement its financial restructuring plan, which is supported by its equity sponsor, a fund managed by the Private Equity Group of Ares Management Corporation, new equity investors Brigade Capital Management and a fund managed by The Carlyle Group, as well as supermajorities of its noteholder groups. The Plan provides for a comprehensive transaction that will deleverage the Company’s balance sheet, enhance financial flexibility and provide additional liquidity to continue to support its vendors, suppliers, and employees.
The Plan will reduce debt by nearly $800 million and is supported by up to $165 million in new equity investments from a fund managed by the Private Equity Group of Ares Management Corporation, a fund managed by the Carlyle Group and Brigade Capital Management. Guitar Center has negotiated to have a total of $375 million in Debtor-In-Possession (“DIP”) financing provided by certain of its existing noteholders and ABL lenders. In connection with the Plan, the Company currently intends to raise $335 million in new senior secured notes. UBS Investment Bank will serve as the lead placement agent in connection with this effort. The move is intended to allow Guitar Center and its related brands (including Music & Arts, Musician’s Friend, Woodwind Brasswind and AVDG) to continue normal operations while the transaction is implemented.
Guitar Center has been in business for over 60 years, but was forced to close many locations in March during the COVID-19 lockdowns across the nation, and struggled to keep sales up as the economy tanked during the pandemic.
Ron Japinga, CEO of Guitar Center, said, “This is an important and positive step in our process to significantly reduce our debt and enhance our ability to reinvest in our business to support long-term growth. Throughout this process, we will continue to serve our customers and deliver on our mission of putting more music in the world. Given the strong level of support from our lenders and creditors, we expect to complete the process before the end of this year.”

Concord Music Publishing Signs Chris La Corte To New Hillary Lindsey Joint Venture, Hang Your Hat Music
/by Lorie HollabaughChris La Corte. Photo: Ashtin Paige
Chris La Corte is the first signing to a new joint venture between Hillary Lindsey and Concord Music Publishing, Hang Your Hat Music. Jake Gear has also joined Hang Your Hat Music as GM/Exec. VP and previously worked with Lindsey at BMG.
La Corte most recently worked with Sam Hunt on his album Southside, including his chart-climbing single “Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s.” He has collaborated with Zach Crowell and Peer Åström for artists such as Sam Hunt, Adam Sanders, Cash Campbell and John Gurney, among others.
The new venture combines Lindsey’s songwriting talent and collaborative relationships with Concord’s broad resources, creative services and first-class administration. Gear will lead in pitching songs, heading up the creative direction and developing writers, artists, and staff.
Prior to serving as the Senior Creative Director for BMG, Gear was Creative Director for Nashville independent publisher, Sea Gayle Music. Throughout his career, he has helped place hit songs with Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, and Morgan Wallen, among others.
“We’re incredibly fired up to work with Hillary and Jake as we all collaborate to develop the next generation of talent, and Chris is a great example of that talent,” said Brad Kennard, Sr. VP, A&R at Concord Music Publishing in Nashville. “We’re eager to pool the resources of our team in Nashville and around the globe, combined with Hillary and Jake’s expertise, to bring opportunities to the Hang Your Hat roster, whether it’s country, pop, synch-focused and beyond.”
“I couldn’t be more excited to get to work with a team that I know so well,” La Corte said. “Each player has a crucial role. I’ve gotten to know Jake over the last year—he’s respected throughout the writing community as a song guy and a champion for writers. It has been a true pleasure having him create opportunities for my songs, manage my writing calendar, and guide my career. I’ve been fortunate enough to spend some time in a writer’s room with Hillary, and she puts on a humble masterclass in songwriting every single time. The knowledge and opportunities I’ve gained working with her are absolutely priceless, and our newfound friendship I hold even more dearly. Getting to partner with Hillary and Jake as the first signing to their new publishing venture with Concord is better than I could have ever planned or imagined. I’ve gotten to know Brad and the Concord team in Nashville over the last couple months, and I’m excited to plug in with the creative teams around the world. I know they have my back with their global influence and reach. I also want to shout out Zach Crowell, whose hands-on mentorships has been monumental in my development as a producer and writer and we’ll continue to create great songs together. This ‘dream team,’ as I refer to it, is going to do some really big things, and I couldn’t be more thankful to be a part of it!”
“So excited to have Chris La Corte as our first signing. He backs up his dynamic talents as a writer and producer with an incredible work ethic and character,” Gear said. “I also look forward to continuing to build relationships across Concord to create opportunities for our writers, artists, and songs.”

/by Jessica NicholsonMickey Guyton. Photo: UMGN
Pandora announced today that Mickey Guyton is set to perform for Next Up empowered by The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card from Chase, on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 9 p.m. EST. Fans can RSVP here.
Guyton will perform songs from her catalog including her recent EP, Bridges, which was released this past September. She will also share commentary about the inspiration behind each track during the stripped-down, intimate acoustic session. Guyton co-wrote all six songs on Bridges, including “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” which she performed this year with Keith Urban at the ACM Awards.
“I have loved being able to share so much music this year but have missed being able to connect with fans on the road,” said Guyton. “Music brings us together, especially during difficult times. I am grateful to be working with Pandora to create a virtual performance that celebrates love, healing and hope.”
In addition to the performance, Guyton will be hosting a special meet and greet for 20 lucky superfans which will take place prior to her performance.
Texas native Guyton released her self-titled debut EP in 2015, featuring the single “Better Than You Left Me.” The following year she was nominated for her first Academy of Country Music Award for New Female Vocalist. Guyton returned to the ACM Awards in 2019, performing “I’m Standing With You” from the Breakthrough movie soundtrack alongside Chrissy Metz, Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina and Maddie & Tae.
In anticipation of her performance, Pandora launched a special Next Up station with Mickey Guyton earlier this month.
Artist Visit: Restless Road Packs New EP With Harmonies
/by Jessica NicholsonGarrett Nichols, Zach Beeken, Colton Pack. Photo: Matthew Berinato
Trio Restless Road recently visited with MusicRow staffers (via Zoom) to chat about their new music. The group’s Zach Beeken, Colton Pack and Garrett Nichols effortlessly blend their vocals into strong harmonies.
The trio’s journey began in 2013 when Beeken and Pack joined teams as contestants on The X Factor. During their time, they met their future collaborator Kane Brown. Nichols would later join Beeken and Pack as part of the trio in 2015.
A few years ago, Brown rekindled that friendship the musicians had found on The X Factor, and sent Pack a text message after he saw Pack’s cover version of Brown’s “Good As You.” The group’s four-song EP, produced by Dann Huff, released in February. The self-titled project includes their current single “Take Me Home,” a collaboration with Brown that incorporates snippets from John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
With the EP and single, the trio was set up to open several show dates on Brown’s Worldwide Beautiful Tour early this year, before the pandemic shut down touring. The group didn’t want the time to be wasted so they focused on writing songs and staying connected with fans. In October, they announced they had signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. Like most songwriters, they have taken to Zoom writing during the pandemic.
“I think we’ve honestly written some of the best songs of our lives this year, during quarantine,” Pack said. “So this song is still in the works with our producer.”
During the visit, they performed songs including “I Took One Look At Her Mama,” and “One Step Ahead.”
Nichols added, “My dad is my best friend of all time and we were all sitting around one day and he said, ‘Son, you want to know how you find the one? All you gotta do is take one look at her mama. That might give you an idea of what things might be like down the road.’ So we got in the writing room and we thought that would be a cool song title.”
Less than a month ago, they filmed the music video for “One Step Ahead.”
“That was a big bucket list item to check off,” said Beeken. “We are really excited about taking this momentum that we’ve been able to create in this year into next year.”
