CRS Registration Rate To Increase On January 13

CRS-2015-LogoThe deadline to purchase the $499 regular rate for the 2015 Country Radio Seminar (CRS) is Monday January 12. The registration fee will increase to $599 starting Tuesday, Jan. 13.

CRS 2015 will be held Feb. 25-27, 2015 and includes more than 20 educational panels and presentations by industry-leading speakers, including entrepreneur Todd Wagner, leadership and team development coach, Lori Addicks, and Shazam CEO, Rich Riley. In addition, several of the format’s biggest acts will appear as featured speakers, including Keith Urban and the 2015 Artist Humanitarian Award recipient, Lady Antebellum.

As previously announced, Friday’s New Faces of Country Music Show will feature performances by Frankie Ballard (Warner Bros./WAR), Sam Hunt (MCA), Maddie & Tae (Dot), Eric Paslay (EMI) and Cole Swindell (Warner Bros./WAR).

Nashville’s Big 98 Brings Tige & Daniel to Afternoons

Nashville’s The Big 98 WSIX has announced that Tige & Daniel will take over the afternoon drive on Nashville’s New Country, effective immediately. Tige Rodgers and Daniel Baker will host live weekdays from 3-7 p.m. CT.

Tige & Daniel have been together on-air for almost ten years and can be heard on various stations throughout the country. Their previous morning show aired in a variety of markets including Greensboro, N.C. and Myrtle Beach, S.C. In 2013 Tige & Daniel were nominated for the CMA Large Market Personality of the Year Award.

Luke Bryan made the most visits to the top of the chart with four. CRS Adds Executive Coach and Shazam CEO as Speakers

Lori Addicks (leadership and team development coach) and Rich Riley (Shazam CEO) have been announced as featured speakers for Country Radio Seminar 2015.
Addicks’ presentation, Increasing Your Resilience & Performance with EQ (Emotional Intelligence), will take place Thursday, Feb. 26 followed by Riley’s address Friday, Feb. 27, about the use of Shazam for programming and promotions.
As President of Larkspur Group, Addicks is a consultant, facilitator and executive coach specializing in leadership, organizational and team development, as well as multi-generational diversity. She has more than 25 years of experience in over 60 countries working with multiple industries including Coke, Cox, Apple, Aetna, AT&T, Atlanta Housing Authority, Walton Communities, McKesson Health Care, Recall, Brambles, Dean Foods and PC Tools.
Riley’s app has more than 100 million monthly active users and recently introduced its Hall of Fame. In 1999, he led the team that developed and patented what would become the Yahoo Toolbar (Log-Me-On.com). He spent 13 years in diverse leadership roles at the internet company including EVP, Americas and SVP, EMEA and led Corporate and Business Development. In 2011, Riley was a 40 Under 40: Ones To Watch by Fortune. Shazam is the No. 1 sales referral app for iTunes.

Gwen Foster and Will Robinson have joined I.R.S. Nashville Records as Directors of Promotion, announced label President John Grady. Both will report to VP of Promotion Tom Moran.
I.R.S. Nashville’s first artist signing is duo Striking Matches, whose debut album will be released first quarter 2015.
Foster previously handled Southwest/West promotion for Average Joes Entertainment, and earlier for Treehouse Records. She has spent 22 years in radio, including time at KMLE/Phoenix, KNIX/Phoenix, KPLX/Dallas and Edens Broadcasting in San Diego.
“I am thrilled to be a part of the I.R.S. Records team!” Foster says. “I’ve been blessed to work with some amazing people on the label side of the business, and now I get to work with John Grady, Tom Moran and Will Robinson. You can bet that the artists will be one of a kind, and the music will blow you away.”

Adds Moran, “Gwen has that combination of intelligence and passion that we want I.R.S. to be known for. She is a perfect fit.”
Robinson, a 20-year music industry veteran, was most recently with RPM Entertainment and worked with Moran at Nine North Records. He has held programming positions at WFRE, WCAT and WQYK. “I’m excited to be a part of the one of the most iconic record brands ever,” Robinson says. “To be reunited with my mentor Tom and to work with John is so a dream come true. I know we will turn heads.”
Adds Moran, “I knew I wanted Will to be a part of the company the moment I joined I.R.S. He is an outstanding promotion man and we are lucky to have him.”
I.R.S. has a rich musical history that includes albums by The Police, Black Sabbath and R.E.M. The label was shuttered in 1996 and revived in 2011 as a joint venture between EMI Music North American and Crush Management. Caroline, the independent services division of Capitol Music Group, created I.R.S. Nashville in 2013.

iHeartMedia Announces Sale Of Radio Towers For $400 Million

iHeartMedia, Inc., (previously known as Clear Channel), announced today the sale of a select portfolio of its tower assets to Vertical Bridge for up to $400 million. The transaction is subject to due diligence and other customary closing conditions.
The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2015 and the company will subsequently enter into a lease with respect to the sold tower assets so its broadcast operations will continue without interruption.
“This is a great example of how we continue to optimize our balance sheet and maximize liquidity — and how we continually review our entire portfolio of assets to ensure we operate them in the most efficient way possible and invest our resources in the highest return opportunities,” said Richard J. Bressler, President and Chief Financial Officer of iHeartMedia, Inc.
The buyer, Vertical Bridge Holdings, is a privately-owned real estate investment trust focused on the ownership of wireless communication towers in the U.S.

The Copyright Society of the South recently hosted its 18th annual Copyright Year in Review luncheon featuring the Associate Professor of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies University at Colorado, Stan Soocher, J.D.
Soocher spoke to a standing room-only membership about cases including: Lady Gaga winning summary judgment in defending against the song, ‘Juda’; a case where there was no substantial similarity between a plaintiff’s rap song and Usher’s R&B song in Edwards v. Raymond, 13 Civ. 7985; and discussing the distinct acts of infringement at issue in a copyright suit over card game rights.

Team WEA has welcomed Blake Nixon as the team’s new Promotion coordinator. The Brentwood, Tenn., native is a Belmont University graduate, and previously served as an account representative for three years with Word Entertainment.
His prior experience also includes event promotion for WSM radio and interning for UMG’s radio promotion team. He replaces Stephanie Holzer, was was recently promoted to the role of Southwest Regional Manager.

CRS Names Rusty Walker Scholarship Winners

CRS-2015-LogoCountry Radio Seminar has announced this year’s Rusty Walker Scholarship winners, who will receive an all expense-paid trip and registration to CRS 2015, held Feb. 25-27 at the Nashville Convention Center.
Andrea Bogdonas (Morning Show Co-Host, Promotions Director and Social Media Producer/Designer – WFMB/Springfield, IL), Colton Bradford (Night Host and Morning Stunt Guy – WKSJ/Mobile, AL) and Annie Brooks (Marketing and Promotions Director – KWJJ/Portland, OR) are the three recipients of this year’s scholarship.
The Rusty Walker Scholarship program was created in 2012 by the Country Radio Broadcasters, Inc. to honor Country Radio Hall of Fame member, Rusty Walker, who passed away in May 2012. Scholars will be recognized at the CRS 2015 opening ceremonies and will have the opportunity to meet CRS board members during the three-day seminar.
