Warner Releases Songwriter Demos

The original songwriter demos to some of country music’s biggest hits are being released today by Warner Bros. Records. Some of Nashville’s best songwriters are represented in the two-volume series. And the CD/digital booklet for Original Songwriter Demos contains the stories behind each hit as told by the writers.

It is available online at www.originalsongwriterdemos.com as well as at all digital retailers. Several Nashville shops will also carry the project including The Bluebird Cafe, The Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Grand Ole Opry Gift Shop.

    The original demo for Ol’ Red would have been great on one of these. First recorded by George Jones, Hoyt Axton and Kenny Rogers and written by James “Bo” Bohan, Don Goodman and Mark Sherrill. Then Blake Shelton picked it up.

    About 37% of the singers listed here are women, so yippee to that. However, only about 20% of the writers are women — just 1 in 5. We’re getting there, though. You go girls!
