Nashville Buildings Go Red To Support Live Events Industry

Venues and companies across Nashville turned red on Tuesday evening (Sept. 1), as part of the #WeMakeEvents #RedAlertRESTART campaign, to raise awareness and support for the 77% of live events workers who have lost 100% of their incomes during the COVID-19 pandemic (including 97% of 1099 workers), according to wemakeevents.org.

More than 1,800 venues and companies across the nation took part in the event. Among the Nashville companies that pledged to take part were the Country Music Association, Red Light Management, 4 Wall- Nashville, Bandit Lites, Bradfield Stage Lighting, Brantley Sound Associates, Center Stage Events, Chris Lisle Lighting Design, Fireplay, Gallagher Staging, GO Live Productions,, Mo TV/Steelmill, Morris Light & Sound, PRG-Nashville, Pulse Lighting, Pyrotek Special Effects, Room 1 at SIR Nashville, Soundcheck/Crew 1, Thunder Audio, Ascend Amphitheater, Bridgestone Arena, Marathon Music Works, Nissan Stadium, Ole Red, Grand Ole Opry House, Schermerhorn Symphony Center, Ryman Auditorium and more.

Nashville was just one of several cities that took part on Sept. 1, with others including Washington D.C., Huntsville, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans, Boston, Baltimore, Las Vegas, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Boulder, Fayetteville, Lexington, Louisville, and Canadian neighbors including Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

The event implores the U.S. Congress to pass the RESTART Act as soon as possible, to offer economic relief to the live events industry, and potentially expand pandemic unemployment benefits.

According to wemakeevents.org, the live events industry employs more than 12 million people, and contributes more than $1 trillion to the U.S. economy. 95% of live events have been canceled due to COVID-19, with 96% of companies cutting staff and/or wages.

The live events industry was among the first to shut down and will be among the last to reopen. Live events powerhouse Live Nation recently reported its revenues dropped by a staggering 98% in the second quarter of 2020.

The U.S. #RedAlertRESTART event on Sept. 1 followed a similar event on Aug. 11, the #WeMakeEvents Red Alert Day of Action, when over 700 buildings were lit red across the U.K., calling attention to the same plight affecting the live events industry there.

Mojo Music & Media Acquires Stake In Louvin Brothers Catalog (Exclusive)

Global independent publishing and legacy marketing company Mojo Music & Media has acquired a co-publishing interest in Kathy Louvin’s Movin Louvin Music. Kathy is the daughter of Ira Louvin, one half of the legendary country duo the Louvin Brothers. The deal spans the group’s entire catalog, including classics such as “When I Stop Dreaming,” “If I Could Only Win Your Love,” “Cash On The Barrel Head,” “I’ll Take The Chance” and “The Knoxville Girl,” and religious standards including “Family Who Prays,” “I Like The Christian Life,” “The Angels Rejoiced Last Night” and “Let Us Travel, Travel On.”

Mojo Co-Founder and CEO Mark Fried said, “The Louvin Brothers extraordinary harmonies and pure Appalachian sound were a foundation for all of country music and their powerfully emotional songs of love, heartbreak and salvation inspired a generation of songwriters and artists who followed. We’re honored to have the chance to work with Kathy and her family to ensure that the Louvin’s music and story continue to work their magic on musicians and music fans for decades to come.”

Kathy Louvin stated, “Pairing the Louvin music catalog with the passion, wisdom and experience at Mojo Music & Media truly creates endless possibilities. As a family, our excitement is reborn and renewed and we are so grateful to be a part of this winning team!”

Ira and Charlie Louvin, first cousins of Hall of Fame songwriter John D. Loudermilk, grew up in rural northeastern Alabama. Between 1955 and 1962, they released 12 Top 30 hits, including the No. 1 hit “I Don’t Believe  You’ve Met My Baby,” and Top 10 hits including “Hoping That You’re Hoping,” “You’re Running Wild,” “Cash On The Barrel Head,” and “My Baby’s Gone.”

The Louvin Brothers joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1955, and were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001. In 2015, they earned a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. They were included in Ken Burns’ recent documentary on country music and are the subject of an upcoming feature film produced by and starring Ethan Hawke.

Kathy Louvin is an award-winning songwriter in her own right, having penned such hits as Ricky Van Shelton’s chart-topper “Keep It Between The Lines” and Confederate Railroad’s “Queen Of Memphis,” among others. She also co-produced the 2003 tribute album, Livin’, Lovin’, Losin’: Songs Of The Louvin Brothers, which won Best Country Album at the 2004 Grammys ceremony.

BREAKING: Academy Of Country Music Honors Tenille Townes, Riley Green With Early Award Wins

This morning, the Academy of Country Music revealed Riley Green as the New Male Artist of the Year and Tenille Townes as the New Female Artist of the Year for the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards, which will be broadcast from Nashville for the first time on Wednesday, Sept. 16,  airing from three iconic country music venues including the Grand Ole Opry House, Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Cafe.

Keith Urban, host for the upcoming awards show, surprised Townes and Green with the news during a video meeting; both Townes and Green will perform during the upcoming ACM Awards.

“When we had to come off the road back in March, I wasn’t sure what the rest of 2020 would look like,” said Green. “So much has happened in the world since then and I’m really excited to have a moment to play music again. My grandfathers’ love for country music is what led me to this moment and I have to dedicate this award to them. Thank you to everyone who believes in my music enough to let this boy from Alabama get to share his songs like this.”

“I’ll always remember this feeling, standing here as a new artist,” said Townes. “I feel so honored and incredibly grateful just to be a part of this country music community that inspires me. Receiving this ACM Award feels like belief from that community, and that means so much to me.”

“This year’s New Artists have experienced astounding success already, and the Academy feels honored to be able to present them with their first ACM Award win,” said Damon Whiteside, CEO of the Academy of Country Music. “We hope this is a memory that they will carry with them as their careers continue to thrive. A huge congratulations to all of this year’s well-deserving nominees and a special thank you to the artists’ teams who helped the Academy pull off the surprise, especially our host Keith Urban for making this moment monumental. We can’t wait to see Riley and Tenille on the 55th ACM Awards stage on September 16!”

In June, Townes issued her sterling full-length project The Lemonade Stand, which includes her Top 30 hit “Somebody’s Daughter,” as well as “Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking),” “Come As You Are,” and “The Most Beautiful Things,” among others. In May, Green issued his acoustic Valley Road EP, which included stripped down versions of his No. 1 hit “There Was This Girl,” and the fan favorite “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” and previewed two previously-unreleased songs called “Better Than Me” and “If It Wasn’t For Trucks.”
