In honor of Carrie Underwood’s performance at the Iowa IndyCar race this past weekend, the No. 60 car of Meyer Shank Racing displayed the logo of her new SiriusXM channel, Carrie’s Country, on the side pod. Underwood stopped by the garage before the race to say hello to drivers Helio Castroneves and Conor Daly.
Race fans will see Carrie’s Country on the No. 60 car again at the Nashville race on Aug. 6, and fans can check it out on channel 60 on SiriusXM.

McBride & The Ride’s ‘Marlboros & Avon’ Out This Friday

The new five-song collection features all three original members, Terry McBride (lead vocals/bass), Ray Herndon (vocals/guitar) and Billy Thomas (vocals/drums), marking the first time in nearly 30 years since they’ve done a project together. The 90’s country favorites have been steadily building their return starting with the release of the title track last fall.
The nostalgic “Marlboros & Avon” sets the stage for an act that has emerged on the scene refreshed and ready to entertain following a couple of decades individually playing with artists like Brooks & Dunn, Lyle Lovett and Vince Gill. Listeners will also find the band’s take on Webb Pierce’s iconic “Honky Tonk Song” with twangy steel and throwback guitars as well as “Along Comes A Girl,” which features a ‘see what they did there’ twist of the hook on the new EP.
“We are just having so much fun. Writing and producing this project together has been super collaborative and a great way to use our collective strengths,” McBride shares. “There was no need for bells and whistles on the recording, it’s us playing stone cold country music just like we do at the live show.”
The group plans to celebrate the EP’s release with a free show Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in Nashville at Ole Red.
24th Annual NSAI Song Contest To Launch In August
/by Caela GriffinThe Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) along with presenting sponsors The Bluebird Cafe and CMT have announced details for the 24th annual NSAI Song Contest.
Launching Aug. 1 at 12:00 p.m. CT, this year’s contest will award over $20,000 worth of prizes. Songwriters of all genres are invited to submit their songs and/or lyrics to be evaluated by industry professionals for feedback and their chance to win.
All eligible submissions received by NSAI from Aug. 1 at 12:00 p.m. CST through Sept. 30 at 5:00 p.m. CT will be judged in their respective categories by music industry professionals with a 10-question scorecard evaluation. Highest scoring entries will advance to the second round for another review, and in the third round of judging, up to 10 finalists and up to 10 honorable mentions will be determined for the Song Category, and the Lyric Category winner and runner-up will be selected.
In January 2024, the top finalists for the Song Category will be scored during a live-streamed event where a panel of elite music industry professionals will score each submission from one to 10, with the highest combined score receiving the Song Category Grand Prize.
This year’s prize packages include two cash prizes ($5,000 and $2,500); $1,500 towards a Guitar Center purchase; two 417e guitars from Taylor Guitar; a mentor session with either Ingrid Andress or David Hodges; one-year single-song publishing contract with Anthem Entertainment; a tour of the CMT Headquaters and two pairs of 2024 CMT Music Awards tickets; and an experience at The Bluebird Cafe, among others.

A2IM Announces 2023 Board Of Directors, Executive Committee & Advisory Board

The Board of Directors advocates for the members at large and assists in establishing the organization’s strategic priorities. Elected for three-year terms, members of the Board of Directors provide guidance to ensure the continued success of the independent music sector. A2IM’s Advisory Board members serve one-year terms in order to broaden the perspective of the board.
Newly elected Board Members include Tony Alexander (President & Managing Director, Made in Memphis Entertainment), Nabil Ayers (President, Beggars Group), Hays Rudolph (General Counsel and VP of Business & Legal Affairs, Secretly) and Zena White (COO, Partisan Records).
Heather Johnson (Director of Label Operations, FIXT) will lead the Executive Committee as Chair this year. Victor Zaraya (COO, Concord Music Group) will serve as Treasurer, and Alexander will fulfill the role of Secretary.
The Advisory Board roster consists of Kristin Epstein (Operations Director, Screenwave Media), Steve Kline (President/COO, Better Noise Music), Jennifer Newman Sharpe (General Counsel and Head of Business & Legal Affairs, Exceleration Music), Elliott Peters (SVP, Global Business, Empire), Jason Peterson (CEO, Cinq Music/GoDigital Media Group) and Reed Watson (Co-Owner, Single Lock Records).
Apple Music Spotlights Undiscovered Song Gems With Lost & Found Program
/by Lorie HollabaughApple Music is launching Lost & Found, a new program spotlighting Nashville songwriters by showcasing some of the best country tracks that have never been released, making them available for the first time to fans worldwide.
Thousands of songs are written each year by talented writers that are doomed to never be recorded—until now. With Lost & Found, Apple Music has worked with the songwriting community to select and release six lost demos to be re-recorded for the first time by established and rising country stars. The found songs will be available in Spatial Audio exclusively on Apple Music.
“At Apple Music, we are passionate about celebrating and championing artists and creators,” says Kelleigh Bannen, Apple Music Country’s host. “From advocating for the songwriters, to highlighting the enormous wealth of untapped music, Lost & Found is emblematic of what we do every day, not just here in Nashville, but worldwide. We’re so excited to continue marching towards that mission and look forward to inviting incredible artists to partner with us in unique ways like this.”

Beginning today, Apple Music will release one new found recording each month, beginning with Jelly Roll’s version of “Dragging These Roots,” written by Ben Hayslip, Josh Thompson and Jesse Frasure. “Dragging These Roots” hit the Apple Music team’s desks back in 2019, and was one of hundreds shared by the publishing community for Lost & Found.
“When Apple Music shared the concept with me, I immediately called Frasure on FaceTime from their listening room to let him know I was definitely cutting the song,” Jelly Roll told Apple Music. “I’m so grateful to Apple Music for shining a light on all these creators and their great artistry.”
“I was so excited to hear this lost song got found by Jelly Roll. It’s one of my favorites that I’ve cowritten, and I was hoping it would eventually get to see the light of day,” Frasure tells Apple Music. “Having one of my favorite artists and friends, Jelly Roll, be the one to cut it was icing on the cake. We had a great time going into the studio on this one, he’s a truly soulful singer behind the scenes, and he put so much heart into it. I can’t wait!”
Apple Music is also premiering Lost & Found Radio, a monthly companion radio show hosted by singer-songwriter Lori McKenna. The show will kick off today (July 25) with a special live radio episode co-hosted by Bannen, and features the writers who are being highlighted as part of Lost & Found. Lost & Found will also have its own dedicated space on Apple Music where listeners can find playlists for the lost demos, the newfound singles, the Lost & Found Radio episodes and more playlists from the participating songwriters.
Lost & Found’s Live Broadcast Special airs today on Apple Music Country and Lost & Found Radio’s debut episode featuring Jelly Roll, Frasure and more, airs at 2 p.m. CT, also on Apple Music Country at apple.co/am-country.
Ashley Monroe Joins Sheltered Music Publishing

Ashley Monroe has joined Sheltered Music through an exclusive publishing deal.
“I am so excited about joining the Sheltered music family,” Monroe says. “Not only do I get to be on the same roster as some of my biggest songwriting heroes (Marty Stuart, Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris — I mean come on!), but I feel equally supported and empowered in exploring new collaborations outside of the Nashville norm.”
Monroe has received three separate Grammy nominations—one as a solo artist, one as member of the group Pistol Annies and one as a featured performer alongside Blake Shelton. She has also written No. 1 songs for megastars Miranda Lambert (“Heart Like Mine”) and Jason Aldean (“The Truth”) and has had her songs recorded by many artists such as Carrie Underwood, Brendan Benson, Guy Clark, Vince Gill, Dwight Yoakam, Caitlyn Smith and Morgan Wade.
“Ashley just has a passion for music that moves the soul first and foremost, which is what makes her such a versatile writer with songs that go beyond the country genre,” says Darrell Franklin, Sheltered Music’s Senior Vice President. “The heart that you feel in her songwriting mixed with the pure authentic tone and emotion in her voice have made her one of Nashville’s one-of-a-kind treasures. The Opry celebrated Pruett’s 50th Opry anniversary during Friday night’s show (July 21). Friends and fellow Opry members including Vince Gill, Jeannie Seely, The Whites and more were on hand to celebrate with her. Gill covered Pruett’s hit “Satin Sheets” in her honor.
On Saturday night (July 22), the Opry celebrated Country Music Hall of Fame member Anderson on his 62nd Opry anniversary and honored “Whisperin’ Bill” as the longest-serving Opry member in the show’s history. Many of Anderson’s Opry family and friends including Gill, Jamey Johnson and Seely paid tribute to him throughout the show. Highlights included a Seely/Anderson collaboration on “When Two World’s Collide,” a Johnson/Anderson collaboration on “Everybody Wants To Be 21” and Gill’s performance of his hit “Which Bridge To Cross, Which Bridge To Burn,” which was co-written with Anderson.
Artists scheduled to appear on the Opry in the coming weeks include Steve Earle, Ernest, Lady A, Ashley McBryde, Megan Moroney, Scotty McCreery, Craig Morgan, Ricky Skaggs, Brittney Spencer, Carrie Underwood and more.
Jake Worthington Makes Grand Ole Opry Debut

Jake Worthington made his Grand Ole Opry debut Friday night (July 21), a lifelong dream for the Big Loud Records artist.
Raised on the legends like George Jones, Keith Whitley, Merle Haggard and more, the Texas native set his sights on the Opry from a young age, holding the honor of playing the institution in such high esteem that he didn’t want to watch a show until he had earned the privilege of performing at the hallowed hall.
During his bucket list moment, Worthington performed “Single At The Same Time,” “State You Left Me In” and an acoustic version of his ballad “Closing Time,” receiving a standing ovation from the crowd.
“I wouldn’t change a thing about my life, and being here is a really big reason why,” Worthington shared teary-eyed from the circle. “This is the greatest honor, to be here on the stage where all my heroes stood.”
Worthington will be performing at fairs and festivals the rest of the year, including TidalWave Music Festival, the Illinois State Fair, the State Fair of Texas, and Gordy’s Hwy 30 Music Fest – Texas Edition, supporting Ernest this fall on his “This Fire Tour” and opening various dates for Lainey Wilson and Ian Munsick.
Taylor Swift Springs To No. 1 On MusicRow Top Songwriter Chart

With all 22 songs from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) on the country charts, Taylor Swift secures the No. 1 position on the MusicRow Top Songwriter Chart this week.
Swift, the sole writer on all 22 tracks, made Spotify history with this project, a re-recording of her third album with its original 16 songs and an additional six previously unreleased vault cuts. On its release day, July 7, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) became the most-streamed country album in a single day in Spotify history.
Tracy Chapman maintains the No. 2 spot on the MusicRow Top Songwriter Chart this week with “Fast Car,” followed by Ashley Gorley at No. 3 with 10 currently charting hits. Jordan Schmidt and Ryan Vojtesak round out the top five at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

Spotify To Adjust Premium Pricing

Its 200 million Premium subscribers have access to on-demand and ad-free music listening, offline music downloads and quality music streaming. In an effort to keep innovating and delivering value to fans, Spotify’s prices are changing across several international markets.
In the United States, the Premium Individual plan will be $10.99 moving forward, with the Premium Duo plan available at $14.99, the Premium Family plan at $16.99 and the Premium Student plan at $5.99.
