Nashville-based alternative pop band In Color has signed with Big Loud Rock. To celebrate the signing, the band has released their debut EP Snow Day, out now.

Formed in early 2024, In Color members Holden Clontz, Matthew Hastings, Val Hoyt and Miles Laderman lean on a silent bond sealed by years of friendship and a collective passion for pushing boundaries. They bring dimension to alternative pop, threading unshakable melodies through multi-layered soundscapes.

“We’re so excited to welcome In Color into the Big Loud Rock roster,” shares Big Loud Partner and Big Loud Rock President Joey Moi. “The band’s natural chemistry, clear creative vision, and incredible songwriting make them the real deal. We can’t wait for the world to hear what they’ve been cooking up.”

“For us, it’s always been about the music,” says In Color. “Finding a label that puts the artists first and truly champions the creative process was our top priority. With Big Loud Rock, we’ve found a partner who is just as passionate about the songs as we are. We’re ready to get to work.”

In Color’s debut EP Snow Day features a brand new song “I Want You,” as well as their breakout debut single “Headlights,” (which has amassed over five million global streams across DSPs,) as well as standout tracks “Is There Anyone?” and “Liar.”

“Snow Day has been our journey of exploration and discovery,” explains In Color. “It’s us learning who we are as a collective, weaving our different talents and inspirations into something that feels alive—something that moves us both sonically and lyrically. In creating this music, we’ve found the ground beneath our feet, a place from which we’ll keep reaching, stretching, and growing together.”

In Color is set to support The Band Camino on select dates of their North American tour this fall, which kicks off later this month.

Breakfield Inks With Rounder Records

Breakfield

Folk-rock band Breakfield, formerly Boy Named Banjo, have signed with Rounder Records. The band released their new single under their new name and label, “Canyon Walls,” today (Oct. 3).

“This marks a new chapter for us as we officially take the name Breakfield,” the band shares. “Boy Named Banjo has taken us farther than we ever could have imagined when we started 15 years ago, but over time, we’ve grown and changed in ways that the old name no longer represents. Breakfield carries the spirit of a Tennessee backroad where music, friendship, and adventure came together for us. With this change, we’re stepping forward with a renewed sense of purpose, authenticity to ourselves, and excitement for what’s ahead.”

“From their early days as Boy Named Banjo to their evolution as Breakfield, the band has embodied the heart of American songwriting through authenticity, hard work, and a deep connection to their community,” adds President of Rounder Records, Stephanie Hudacek. “Breakfield remain steadfast, pushing their music forward while staying true to their roots. We couldn’t be prouder to welcome them to the Rounder family.”

Comprised of Barton Davies (banjo/vocals), Ford Garrard (bass/standing bass), Sam McCullough (drums) and William Reames (acoustic guitar/harmonica/vocals), the four-piece band started playing together in high school before moving to Nashville. After busking on the streets of Music City, the band eventually played at Bonnaroo, the Ryman and the Grand Ole Opry.

“Canyon Walls” came to life after burnout and change, eventually leading to the band’s new identity.

“In the fall of 2024, we were completely burned out – though at the time, we were afraid to admit it. We knew we needed a big change, some sort of spark,” says the band. “Around that time, we wrote ‘Canyon Walls’ without realizing that we were the ones that needed to hear it. This song is all about holding on to hope and rediscovering yourself. It was one of the first songs we brought to Sadler [Vaden] at the beginning of this year, and we made demos of each of them out at his place. I remember driving home with William after a session with Sadler and excitedly listening back to all the demos we’d made. Halfway kidding I said, ‘man, what if we changed our name?’ The lightbulb went off, and there was no looking back. It didn’t take us long to land on Breakfield. ‘Canyon Walls’ was the spark.”

Ole 60 Welcome Listeners To ‘Smokestack Town’ On Debut Album

Ole 60 has released their debut album, Smokestack Town, today (Oct. 3).

With production from Jacquire King and Justin Eckerd, the six piece folk-rock band takes listeners into a fictional world based small town America. We tried to create an album that felt complete both lyrically and sonically and I’m very proud of what we ended up with. In an age of double-deluxe albums, we wanted to give the people something raw and unfiltered that felt like it had to be listened to from start to finish.”

American Troubadours Connecting Nashville With Tinseltown

Vince Emmett

Entertainment company American Troubadours is bridging Nashville’s creative community with the Hollywood film community in several upcoming projects.

Building on the box-office success of Reagan, the company is extending its impact in major motion pictures with upcoming projects such as That’s Amore!, a romantic musical comedy written and directed by Academy Award-winner Nick Vallelonga (Green Book) and starring John Travolta, Katherine Heigl, Christopher Walken and Dan Aykroyd.

American Troubadours is uniquely positioned to bring Nashville’s voice to Hollywood screens. Music-driven films and biopics have grossed more than $7 billion globally in the past decade, with recent hits like Elvis and Bohemian Rhapsody proving the enduring power of music-centered storytelling. Nashville’s music industry alone contributes $5.5 billion annually to the city’s economy, and more than 60% of major film and TV productions now feature licensed music from Nashville writers and publishers. With its deep roots in Music City and creative reach into Hollywood, American Troubadours is uniquely positioned to fuel this growing cultural exchange.

Founded and led by award-winning producer and composer Vince Emmett, the company is dedicated to bringing history, music, and culture vividly to life through timeless narratives across film, television, streaming, and digital platforms.

Emmett, whose credits include the feature film Reagan (2024), which opened as the top new film over Labor Day weekend 2024, brings more than three decades of experience working with Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe, and Emmy-winning actors and artists.

“I’ve lived and worked with icons inside an industry that thrives on story in song,” says Emmett. “That uniquely qualifies American Troubadours to build a creative home that vividly bridges music and film while honoring the voices of the past and amplifying those of today.”

On The Row: Karley Scott Collins Steps Into The Spotlight With Her Debut Album

Karley Scott Collins. Photo: Matthew Berinato

Karley Scott Collins stopped by the MusicRow office last week to share a few songs and stories from the making of her debut album, Flight Risk, which was released on Friday (Sept. 26).

Collins started out her creative career as an actress in California, learning guitar on a rented Martin only to meet the requirements for an audition. That experience inspired her to shift her focus to music.

MusicRow’s Madison Hahnen and Lauryn Sink, Karley Scott Collins, MusicRow’s Sherod Robertson, LB Cantrell and John Nix Arledge.

Influenced by the sound of Stevie Nicks, Collins says the project has been a work in progress her whole life, but she started intentionally writing for the album about five years ago.

Across the 16 tracks, Collins explores themes of heartbreak, acceptance, desire and jealousy all weaved together. She co-produced the album alongside Nathan Chapman and co-wrote on every track, collaborating with hitmakers such as Alex Kline, Joybeth Taylor, Scott Stepakoff and many more.

“I want fans to take away from the music the same thing I’ve taken away from it, which is being able to have growth and healing through the music. In writing the songs and making the record, I feel like I grew so much, learned a lot and healed from so many things. I would hope that fans hearing the record would have that same experience.”

Collins kicked off the visit with the confessional “Runner,” before continuing into the bold “Cowboy Shit” and standout track “Quit You.”

Collins will continue her run on Keith Urban’s “High and Alive Tour” through the rest of this month.

DISClaimer Single Reviews: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Release ‘Catchy Country Rocker’

I can’t remember when I enjoyed a listening session more.

The reason is that this edition of DISClaimer reviews current country records that are actually country music. Thanks for that, Joshua Hedley, Jake Worthington, Avery Anna, Alex Miller, HARDY and the rest of you fine folks.

It also says something about the depth of our talent pool when Jon Randall, Ray Benson, Shooter Jennings, Alan Jackson, Daniel Tashian, Jerry Salley and Jerry Douglas are names in the credits and not out front. How cool is that?

The Disc of the Day belongs to the legendary, enduring Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The group may be retiring, but it clearly still has plenty of gas in its tank.

Give a DISCovery Award to Brandon Wisham.

BRANDON WISHAM / “Whiskey’s Whisperin’”
Writers: Andrew Stoelzing/Brandon Wisham/Nate Miles/Zachary Knowles; Producer: Nate Miles; Label: UMG
– He sounds like a wonderful singer. Imagine what he could do with a song that had a melody.

JAKE OWEN / “Long Time Lovin’ You”
Writers: Kendell Marvel/Will Jones; Producers: Jake Owen, Kendell Marvel, Shooter Jennings; Label: Good Company Entertainment
– Owen sings in a softer tone and a lower register on this gentle love ballad. It’s lovely, simple folk-country, somewhat in the manner of the late Don Williams. Which is to say, it’s awfully good. Ear cleansing and spirit soothing.

ALEX MILLER / “Secondhand Smoke”
Writers: Alan Jackson/Jim McBride; Producer: Jerry Salley; Label: Billy Jam Records
– Yee-Haw! This honky-tonk romp will have you grinning from ear to ear. Get a load of those songwriter credits. Is there any doubt in your mind that this is a COUNTRY record? Miller is one of our finest singers, and he really struts his stuff on this barroom toe-tapper.

HARDY / “Dog Years”
Writer: Michael Hardy; Producer: Joey Moi; Label: Big Loud Records
– As a total dog lover, I found this irresistible. It’s written from the point of view of a stray who finds a boy to love him. And, yes, the ballad ends sadly, as every good dog story does. They are wonderful little beings who come into our lives, but leave too soon because they just don’t live as long as we do. Hardy captures these emotions perfectly.

JOSHUA HEDLEY / “Fresh Hot Biscuits”
Writer: Joshua Hedley; Producers: Joshua Hedley, Ray Benson; Label: New West Records
– Hedley teams up with members of Asleep at the Wheel for this splendid western-swing bopper. In addition to delivering a dandy, jaunty vocal, he breaks out a hot fiddle solo in midsong. If you’d like to catch this country talent live, head on downtown to Robert’s Western World whenever he’s performing as the resident entertainer.

NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND / “Night After Night”
Writers: Daniel Tashian/Paul Kennerley; Producer: Jerry Douglas; Label: Many Hats Distribution
– OMG what a delightful track. The band zips through this catchy country rocker with joyous abandon. The song has more hooks than a tuna boat, and Jeff Hanna’s lead vocal is beyond cool. Put this on endless repeat. The Dirt Band is currently on its farewell tour. Go see these legends while you still can.

ASHLEY COOKE / “The Hell You Are”
Writers: Ashley Cooke/Chase McGill/Emily Weisband/Joe Fox/Seth Ennis; Producer: Dann Huff; Label: Big Loud Records
– She’s finally had enough. In this lively, rollicking kiss-off, she lets him know that his lines don’t work anymore. The mix perfectly balances her saucy delivery and a full-bodied country-rock production with notes that pierce like drops of fire. Extremely well done.

CHARLEY PRIDE / “Thank You Pretty Baby”
Writers: Brook Benton/Clyde Otis; Producers: Bob Pickering, Charley Pride; Label: Music City Records
Endlessly is a tribute album to Brook Benton (1931-1988) by Pride. The new CD came about after the tapes for it were discovered following the superstar’s death from COVID in 2020. The performances are a revelation, perhaps the finest vocals of the Hall of Famer’s career. This entire project is essential listening. The single from it is a charming, retro bopper, punctuated by sax bursts and propelled by some punchy, shuffling percussion.

AVERY ANNA / “Girl of Constant Sorrow”
Writer: Avery Anna; Producer: David Fanning; Label: Warner Music Nashville
– This is an enchanting, folk-maiden performance. Her aching soprano is backed by simple acoustic guitar accompaniment. Let the cares of the world slip away and allow yourself to be transported back to a time when music was this pure and clear.

JAKE WORTHINGTON / “Two First Names”
Writers: Brett Tyler/Jake Worthington/Wyatt McCubbin; Producer: Joey Moi; Label: Big Loud Records
– Twang to spare. The witty lyric is groovy enough, but Worthington’s vocal delivery of it is honky-tonk nirvana. Add some stuttering guitar, barrelhoue piano, stinging steel and fiddle flourishes and you’re got yourself a shining little country-music jewel. Worthington’s sophomore album also features collabs with Miranda, Marty and Mae Estes. Get it.

VINCENT MASON / “Days Are Numbered”
Writers: Chase McDaniel/Geoff Warburton/Jessie Jo Dillon/Vincent Mason; Producers: Jake Gear, Vincent Mason; Label: MCA Nashville/Music Soup/Interscope Records
– There’s something kinda muffled about the way his vocal is miked. The yearning, contemplative song is a easy-going ride with his tender tenor backed by steel and guitar.

HUNEYFIRE / “My Country”
Writers: Caitlin Evanson/Cheaza Figueroa/Marriana Barlow; Producer: Cheaza Figueroa; Label: Double Decades Entertainment
– The mother-daughter duo issues this slowly paced song as a statement of purpose. It is somewhat thinly produced for a range-y power ballad, but they warble it well.
