BREAKING: Warner Music Nashville COO Matt Signore To Step Down End Of 2020

Warner Music Nashville Chief Operating Officer Matt Signore will be leaving the company at the end of 2020, according to an internal memo sent by WMN Chairman/CEO John Esposito today (June 30).

Signore spent 15 years at Warner Music Nashville, and had been appointed COO in 2017. Signore joined Warner’s WEA in 2005 as Chief Financial Officer, and then later became General Manager. He became President of WEA in 2013. Prior to his WEA tenure, Signore served as CFO and General Manager of Island Def Jam, and before that he spent time at Island Records.

A well loved executive both company-wide and throughout the music business community, Signore has been an invaluable member of the WMG family. He helped reorganize the company and serves as a key player in the label group’s success.

Esposito shared, “I’ve had the great fortune of counting Matt as a trusted friend and colleague for over 25 years, going back to our days together at PolyGram and IDJ. Besides being one of the greatest execs in our business, Matt is one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever known. A generous and open soul, he’s a mentor and confidante to a generation of people trying to navigate their way through this crazy life. Matt’s dedication and expertise have also been felt by the wider industry, including serving as Board Chairman of Music Biz and being a passionate supporter and Board Director of Porter’s Call, the Nashville-based artists’ counseling service.”

Hi everyone,

I’m writing to share the news that Matt Signore will be leaving the company at the end of December.

As many of you know, Matt has been an invaluable member of the WMG family for 15 years, including serving as President of WEA before joining us as our COO in Nashville nearly four years ago. Since then, Matt has helped us reorganize the company and has been a key player in a new era of success. As with every post he’s had throughout his career, Matt is leaving us in better shape than he found us.

I’ve had the great fortune of counting Matt as a trusted friend and colleague for over 25 years, going back to our days together at PolyGram and IDJ. Besides being one of the greatest execs in our business, Matt is one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever known. A generous and open soul, he’s a mentor and confidante to a generation of people trying to navigate their way through this crazy life. Matt’s dedication and expertise have also been felt by the wider industry, including serving as Board Chairman of Music Biz and being a passionate supporter and Board Director of Porter’s Call, the Nashville-based artists’ counseling service.

Matt will be with us through the end of the year to help with the transition, including local oversight of the renovation of our historic Music Row building. Even in the midst of this upside-down world we’re all living in at the moment, we’ll find a way to properly toast Matt and celebrate all that he’s shared with us over the years!

Charlie Worsham To Host New WSM Radio Show, Air Castle Community Hour


Charlie Worsham will host a new monthly radio show on WSM Radio, titled Air Castle Community Hour. The show will broadcast the first Tuesday of each month, beginning July 7, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. CT.

According to Worsham, the show will “celebrate the diverse community of creative spirits that reside in the 615.”

Worsham will also appear as part of the Country Music Association’s CMA Stay-Cay Presented by Budweiser Nitro Gold, set to air Wednesday, July 1 on CMA’s YouTube and Facebook pages.

Boz Scaggs Inks With Concord Music Publishing

Legendary singer/songwriter Boz Scaggs has signed a publishing deal with Concord Music Publishing. The new deal, effective immediately, covers Scaggs’ full catalog from 1968 to the present, as well as future works.

The Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist is renowned for his unique blend of soul, rock, and blues and has been releasing chart-topping music for over five decades, including “Lido Shuffle,” “It’s Over,” “What Can I Say” and the Grammy-winning “Lowdown”from his 1976 album Silk Degrees. The 5x platinum Silk Degrees reached the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 and remained on the album charts for 115 weeks. The album also featured “We’re All Alone” which became a worldwide Top 10 hit for Rita Coolidge in 1977. In February 2020, “Lowdown” was sampled by English electronic duo Disclosure on their single, “Expressing What Matters.”

Silk Degrees was preceded by a string of R&B-fused albums such as Moments and Slow Dancer. It was followed by platinum albums Down Two Then Left and Middle Man, the latter of which produced the hit singles “Breakdown Dead Ahead,” “Jo Jo” and “Look What You’ve Done to Me.” Other notable albums from the catalog include Some Change, the Grammy-nominated Come On Home, and Dig. Scaggs’ most recent album, Out of the Blues, released in 2018 on Concord Records, reached No.1 on the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album.

Downtown Music Holdings Reimagines Music Industry Internships With Virtual ‘Summer School’

Downtown Music Holdings is launching Downtown Summer School, a free, week-long virtual continuing education program on all aspects of the music industry and the music business. While Downtown has engaged in on-site summer internships for students around the world for the past decade, this new program seeks to re-imagine summer internships impacted by Covid-19, will broadcast live the week of July 27 with morning sessions starting at 12 p.m. ET, followed by afternoon sessions at 3 p.m. ET.

Available to anyone around the world, Downtown Summer School will feature panel discussions with executives from various Downtown divisions, including Downtown Music Publishing, Songtrust, CD Baby, and FUGA, as well as executives from Warner Records, Suntrust and Beatstars. Session topics will include subjects like Crafting Hit Songs Around the World; How Unsigned Acts Distribute, Monetize and Promote their Music Today;  Music on Screen; Diverse Career Paths into the Music Industry; and The Future of Music Streaming.

LANCO Partners With Purposity To Help Nashvillians In Need

LANCO has launched its new “Love Runs Deep” initiative today (June 30) through the non-profit app, Purposity, aimed to help Nashville families in need. The new app is designed to provide for local needs, so a user can plug in their zip code and see what’s affecting their neighbors. Needed items can also be purchased within the app, to be shipped directly to the non-profit or social worker in about two days, then delivered directly to the person or family in need.

Named after a significant lyric found in their new single, “What I See,” the movement enables non-profits and school systems to connect families in need of essentials and LANCO will focus on neighbors in need throughout Music City.  Today’s launch highlights one family from Metro Nashville Public Schools that requests help for a single mom and her daughter who lost everything in the March tornados. In addition to MNPS, “Team LANCO” will support other non-profits such as Safe Haven Family Shelter and Make-a-Wish Middle Tennessee, while other organizations will continuously be added as needs are met.

“We drive through the streets of Nashville often and still see damage everywhere from the tornados that left a lot of people with nothing,” LANCO’s Brandon Lancaster said. “We realized if neighbors were hurting before the pandemic because of that destruction, they are really hurting now with added COVID-19 circumstances. We wanted to help our neighbors in need, but we just did not know where to start. That is where Purposity comes in and we are thrilled to partner with them to create ‘Team LANCO’ so we, along with our fans, can make a difference.”

To participate in the “Love Runs Deep” movement, fans can download Purposity’s free app on their mobile and join the LANCO team. Needs will populate under the team page for users to fulfill, and those who join the team and fulfill a need will earn an exclusive “Love Runs Deep” tee.

Warner Music Nashville’s Gabby Barrett continues to rule the country on-demand streaming songs chart, as “I Hope” brought in 11 million streams this week, according to Nielsen Soundscan. Barrett’s newly-released album Goldmine also enters the country albums chart at No. 4 with 20K in total consumption, making Barrett the first debut female artist to achieve the feat since 2017.

The album has also earned the most first-week debut streams for any country artist in history, with more than 16.1 million on-demand streams since it released June 19.

Bandsintown LIVE Launches New Americana/Country Channel OUTSKIRTS

Bandsintown LIVE has launched the new Americana/country channel OUTSKIRTS. The channel’s soft launch last week attracted 1.2 million unique viewers. To officially kick off the new Bandsintown OUTSKIRTS channel, The Wild Ponies will host Scott Mulvahill, Marie Miller and six other artists for “Will Sing For Change’ to benefit the Thurgood Marshall Fund, Color of Change, I.C.A.R.E Ministries, and the NAACP.

“Will Sing for Change is a collaborative livestream fundraiser hosted by the number one concert discovery platform Bandsintown to raise awareness and funds for organizations that change the world for the better,” said Miller. “Inequality and Racism are strong forces, but I believe that love and peace are stronger and brighter, and together we can change the world to become more compassionate and understanding.”

BMI Pays Tribute To Gospel Trailblazers Of 2020


BMI honored its best and brightest in Gospel music today (June 29) with its Trailblazers of Gospel Music virtual celebration. The honorees were announced on BMI.com and across the organization’s digital platforms, celebrating the inspirational and transformative music of BMI’s accomplished Gospel writers.

Reverential hymn “I’m Getting Ready,” co-written by Todd Galberth, was named BMI’s Gospel Song of the Year. Performed by Tasha Cobbs Leonard, featuring Nicki Minaj, the song spent 52 weeks on Billboard’s Gospel charts and peaked at number one, earning Galberth his very first BMI Gospel Award.

Kirk Franklin received the coveted Songwriter of the Year award for penning three of BMI’s most-performed Gospel songs of 2019, including “If You Don’t Mind,” “Love Theory,” and “Never Alone.”
Songs of Kobalt Music Publishing received the Publisher of the Year distinction for representing five of the top-performing Gospel songs of the previous year, “If You Don’t Mind,” “I’m Getting Ready,” “Never Alone,” “Stand In Awe” and “Victory.”

BMI also paid homage to the 20 most-performed Gospel Songs of the Year (2019). This year’s crop of winners featured 20 first-time Trailblazer Award recipients, including Maranda Curtis for her hit song “Nobody Like You Lord.”
