Legal Aid Hosts Music Row Breakfast

The Legal Aid Society hosted its 2nd Annual Music Row breakfast on May 25 at Sunset Grill. The gathering is intended to facilitate a time for socializing and hearing about some of the organization’s work. The Legal Aid Society has provided free civil legal services to families with nowhere else to turn. Legal Aid Society is a private, non-profit organization that provides free legal services to people with low income. They do not take criminal cases only civil cases – cases where you yourself will not be sent to jail.

ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass Prepares For Launch

Bluegrass aficionados looking to hone their pickin’ chops should take note. Aspiring and established players will now have a chance to learn fiddle, banjo, mandolin, bass and guitar online from the pros with the launch of the Academy of Bluegrass.
The Artistworks Academy of Bluegrass will consist of the following instructional schools: Banjo with Tony Trischka, Guitar with Bryan Sutton, Fiddle with Darol Anger, Bass with Missy Raines, and Mandolin with Mike Marshall. Each school contains hundreds of beginner, intermediate and advanced video lessons.
Students will have the opportunity to send their instructor video of themselves playing and receive personal feedback and instruction in return. School is expected to launch in June 2011.

Benefits: Chattanooga Concert; Golf Tournaments

Jacob Lyda and Mallary Hope will be performing at a Chattanooga concert hosted by WRCB Channel 3 and radio partners US-101, 103.7 KISS-FM, My 98.1, and Rock 105 to raise money for local Red Cross relief efforts. Called Coming Together After The Storm, the event will air May 21st from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., live from the Tennessee Aquarium in Downtown Chattanooga. The public is invited to come down to the outdoor pavilion between the two sections of the aquarium for the free concert. Lyda experienced the storm damage personally as he and his parents both have homes damaged by the recent tornado outbreak. This is the second relief effort organized by Channel 3 and its radio partners. Two days after the storm, listeners and viewers filled four tractor trailers and donated $20,000 to Operation: Good Neighbor.

The 14th annual Audio Masters Golf Tournament to benefit the Nashville Engineer Relief Fund is set for May 26-27 at the Harpeth Hills Golf Course in Nashville. Registration is still open. Proceeds from the event benefit NERF, which was established by the Nashville Section of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) to provide financial support to engineers in the Nashville area who experience a medical or other life crisis. For more information visit www.theaudiomasters.org.

Charlie Daniels and Phillip Pulmer will host the 13th annual Phillip Fulmer and Charlie Daniels Golf Classic. The tournament is a fundraiser for The Jason Foundation, a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to the awareness and prevention of youth suicide. It is scheduled for May 17 at the Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tenn.

 

ANR Signs Morgan; Whitley Releases Single

Jesse Keith Whitley, the son of Lorrie Morgan and the late Keith Whitley, and grandson of Grand Ole Opry star George Morgan, released his debut single, “Kentucky Thunder”, to radio on May 9th.
Produced by James Stroud, the 6-pack also includes “Where Would I Be,” a song Jesse co-wrote with Jon Randall, as well as, a remake of “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”
Ironically, May 9th marked the 22nd anniversary of Keith Whitley’s passing at the age of 33. Jesse was just shy of his second birthday when he lost his famous father. Although not planned, the release date worked out to be a special coincidence. Jesse has been touring with his mother and recently appeared at the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony, accepting the honor on behalf of his late father.

You May Now Kiss the Bride

The internet is buzzing over tomorrow’s big day for Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton. Country music’s power couple plans to walk down the aisle tomorrow (May 14th) in a Texas country wedding.
Lambert has been tweeting some details of the nuptials including plans to serve their own wild game at their wedding. The pair was engaged last May near her hometown in Oklahoma.
This has been a busy year for the couple. Lambert won four trophies at the ACM Awards last month and has announced plans to team with ABC Family for a television show. Shelton currently serves as one of the celebrity coaches on NBC’s singing competition show, The Voice, and his new album is set for release on July 12.

ASCAP Celebrates “Don’t You Wanna Stay”

ASCAP celebrated the writers and publishers of the 3-week No. 1 “Don’t You Wanna Stay” during a party Wednesday (5/11). Writers Andy Gibson, Paul Jenkins and Jason Sellers each celebrated their first No. 1., and publishers Sony/ATV and Godfather Rich Muzik (with John Rich picking up his first No. 1 plaque as a publisher) were also honored. Jason Aldean was on hand to celebrate his sixth chart topper, and Michael Knox was also presented with a plaque for his contributions as producer.

Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott took home Song of the Year honors for her hit, “Need You Now” at the 15th Annual SESAC New York Music Awards held Wednesday night (5/11). CMT receives Mayor’s Award for Outstanding School Partner

Last week at the PENCIL Foundation’s BRAVO! Awards Luncheon, Mayor Karl Dean presented CMT with the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding School Partner for the network’s work with their Academies of Nashville school partner, McGavock High School. It’s a tight 1-2-3 configuration at the top of the CountryBreakout Chart, but Brad Paisley’s “Old Alabama” remains at No. 1 for a second consecutive week. Chasing Paisley very closely are The Band Perry’s “You Lie” at No. 2, and Taylor Swift’s “Mean” which makes a big jump up from No. 6. Factor in Justin Moore’s “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away” at No. 5, and Big Machine Label Group has 60 percent of the Top 5.
More summer singles are on the way. Lady Antebellum’s highly anticipated “Just A Kiss” has risen from zero to No. 30 in a short two week span. Similarly Zac Brown Band’s “Knee Deep” featuring Jimmy Buffett has climbed all the way to No. 27 in just three weeks. Bucking the upbeat, sunny summer trend is Kenny Chesney’s “You And Tequila” featuring rocker Grace Potter. The move seems to be working–the contemplative number has quickly ascended to No. 44 in its second week charting.
Joe Nichols sticks with the more traditional summer fare on his “Take It Off,” and earns the Power Chart Debut honor. Also debuting are Jennette McCurdy’s “Generation Love” at No. 76, Jordan Carter’s “Daddy Never Had A Chance In Hell” at No. 79 and Burns & Poe’s “Second Chance” at No. 80.

Chesney Donates Concert Fees to Tuscaloosa

Kenny Chesney, Morris Management, and his representatives at AEG/TMG have announced that the May 25 concert in Tuscaloosa, AL on his 2011 Goin’ Coastal Tour will help raise money for the city after its recent tornado damage. Chesney’s fees, as well as those of his management and booking representatives, will be donated to GiveTuscaloosa.com, a clearinghouse for local charities and social services founded specifically to address the devastating tornado that ravaged the city on April 27. Chesney had considered postponing the date, but instead decided that the concert would be tremendously positive to the community, both emotionally and as a fundraising boon.
Chesney comments, “When we first heard about this tragedy we were stunned, as we have so many fans in the area and have enjoyed every visit that we’ve made there over the years. But Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox convinced us that this is a great opportunity to bring the people of Tuscaloosa together in a positive way, and we are grateful for the opportunity to help them in this way.”

Dunn Signs on For Canadian Award Show

The Canadian Country Music Awards will air Sept. 12 on Canada’s CBC TV network. The prestigious awards cap the CCMA’s annual Country Music Week festivities slated this year to emanates from Hamilton, Ontario Sept. 9-12.
Performers announced for the upcoming show include Canadian artists George Canyon, Terri Clark, Doc Walker and Emerson Drive plus international superstar Ronnie Dunn. Final nominees will be announced July 27.
“Always love when Canada shows up on the itinerary,” says Dunn. “This trip in for the Canadian Country Music Awards is even better, I get to sing with my friends.”
The CCMA Awards will be televised live from the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, produced by Corkscrew Media and broadcast live on CBC with encore airings on CMT Canada. This year marks the first in fifteen that the four-day Country Music Week conference has been hosted by the City of Hamilton.
The CCMA was established in 1976 to ensure the growth of Canadian country music. The Awards were created in 1982 to celebrate the music and artists that represent Canada’s unique musical culture. For more info visit www.ccma.org

Toby Keith just wrapped his ninth USO Tour visiting troops overseas, a journey he makes every spring to show support. On this 12-day expedition, Keith and his band traveled roughly 20,000 miles and Keith signed and presented almost 6,000 USO/Toby Keith photos. That’s in addition to the personal photos, guitars and other items he autographed.

Warner Music Nashville’s Frankie Ballard visited the CMA offices recently to perform songs from his forthcoming self-titled debut album. The project, due out May 24, includes his new single, “A Buncha Girls.” Ballard will perform on the Chevrolet Riverfront Stage on Friday, June 10, during the 2011 CMA Music Festival.

The LoCash Cowboys made their Grand Ole Opry debut on a recent Saturday night. The Stroudavarious Records duo made up of Chris Lucas and Preston Brust, performed “Keep In Mind,” their current radio single about the bond of family. The moment was especially poignant for Lucas, whose father recently passed away. In the audience was his mother and grandmother, as well as Brust’s parents. The band’s next single, “You Got Me,” is set for a June 6 add date at country radio.
