Premiere Radio Picks Up Crook And Chase

ccPremiere Radio Networks has added The Crook & Chase Countdown to its lineup of nationally syndicated radio programs. The company will assume distribution rights to the four-hour weekend radio program on October 10, 2009, and it will be available for air between 6 a.m. and 12 a.m. local time. The Crook & Chase Countdown will continue to be based in Nashville, Tenn.

The program was most recently syndicated by United Stations Radio Networks. It is currently heard on more than 160 stations in the U.S. For affiliations, please contact Premiere Radio Networks at 818-377-5300.

Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase have hosted successful radio and television programs together on a continuous basis for more than 25 years, and are one of the longest running broadcast duos in the industry. In 1989, the pair ventured into radio with the debut of The Crook & Chase Countdown. In addition to hosting the popular radio show, they host the weekly TV show Crook & Chase on RFD-TV. Crook is also host of Lorianne Crook’s Celebrity Kitchen on RFD-TV and can be seen on various specials, such as the CMA Celebrity Close-Up on GAC. Chase co-hosts the weekday news program Tennessee Mornings on FOX 17 in Nashville.

Matchless Music Plans Release; Herndon Inks New Deals

davidShawn Pennington has opened Matchless Music Group with David St. Romain as the flagship artist. The company’s debut album is due in the first quarter of 2010, and St. Romain’s lead single, “That’s Love,” goes to radio Oct. 19 with David Haley’s EdgeHill Music handling promotion. Pennington and St. Romain met during Season 5 of Nashville Star, where St. Romain finished third in the competition.

Pennington launched Matchless Management in May after resigning from Dale Morris & Associates. Other artists signed to the management, production and consulting firm include Stoney Creek Records artists Ash Bowers and Thompson Square.

Pennington was a professional musician who moved to Nashville in early 1997 to become the bandleader and tour manager for Sara Evans. In 2002 he segued into the business side of the industry and held a management position with Dale Morris & Associates where he was actively involved in launching the careers of Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, John Rich, Cowboy Troy, the Muzik Mafia, Randy Owen (solo), and Kellie Coffey.

Ty Herndon has inked a management deal with The Bucket Agency. He has also signed publishing and recording deals with Dove Award winning producer Wayne Haun and Haun’s Sunset Gallery Publishing. Herndon is nearing completion of his first self–penned record Journey On, scheduled for a 2010 release on Vine Records.

Carrie’s Single Sales Explosion

carrie singleSuperstar Carrie Underwood has the nation’s No. 1 country digital single as “Cowboy Casanova” scored first-week sales of more than 110,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, a division of The Nielsen Company. With this achievement, Underwood remains the only solo country artist this year to debut a digital single above the 100,000 mark. It’s the second time she’s accomplished this feat in 2009, having also hit the six-digit mark with this season’s American Idol farewell theme, “Home Sweet Home.”

“Cowboy Casanova” is the lead single from her Nov. 3 Arista/19 Recordings release, Play On, and is the fastest rising single of her career. The music video debuts  tomorrow (10/2) as part of CMT’s multi-artist “Big New Music Weekend” of nine exclusive video premieres. Fans can also look for the video beginning tomorrow on CMT.com, and CMT Pure.

A four-time GRAMMY Award winner, ACM Entertainer of the Year, and reigning, three-time CMA and ACM Female Vocalist winner, Underwood re-teamed with producer Mark Bright for the new album. He also helmed her Carnival Ride collection as well as seven tracks from her 2005 album debut, Some Hearts. GAC Nights Radio Show Shuts Down

gacThe syndicated radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville is coming to an end tomorrow (9/30). It was on-air almost two years but couldn’t find another home when its contract with Citadel radio ran out. Exiting are Executive Producer Donna Hughes, co-host Buzz Brainard, and Associate Producer Renee McNeill.

Hughes, with 21 years of experience in the country music industry, will be focusing on freelance work. Her career includes time as a journalist, talent booker/coordinator, writer, interviewer, producer, executive radio producer, and on-air talent. She can be reached at [email protected]. Delilah Showcases Art in Nashville

delilahNational radio personality and author Delilah will showcase her artistic talents Friday, October 9 with a charity event exhibiting 25 original paintings and photographs at Nashville’s Rymer Gallery. The exhibit starts at 7 pm, and proceeds from sales of her works will go to Point Hope, a non-profit founded by Delilah in 2004 that aims to be a voice for forgotten children.

Artist Confidential on SIRIUS XM

image003SIRIUS XM has announced the 2009 fall season for its popular Artist Confidential series, which will kick off next Monday, September 28 and feature some of music’s biggest names giving candid interviews and live performances. The first presentation on 9/28 will feature Reba McEntire, whose segment will air on SIRIUS 61 and XM 17, as well as David Gray on SIRIUS 30 and XM 51. Other guests scheduled to appear throughout the season include Melissa Etheridge (9/29, live from the Hard Rock Cafe), Lynyrd Skynyrd (10/5), Oak Ridge Boys (10/5), Testament (10/5), Ziggy Marley (10/12), and Ronnie Milsap (10/12). Tentatively scheduled for 10/19 are John Fogerty and Smokey Robinson. Each presentation airs 8 pm CT Mondays on its respective channel, with encore showings throughout the week.

New WSM-AM Show Will Be Live From Loveless

WSM 650-AM will launch a weekly Americana program on Oct. 14 called “Music City Roots: Live From The Loveless Cafe,” with the debut show featuring icon Emmylou Harris, acclaimed duo Pam Rose and Mary Ann Kennedy, as well as emerging artists Annie Crane and Robin Ainger. With a long history of live broadcasts, WSM will air the show Wednesday nights from 7 – 9 p.m. live from the Loveless Barn.

Artists committed to performing in the opening months include Sam Bush, Radney Foster, John Cowan, Dexter Romweber, Dale Ann Bradley, Peter Bradley Adams, Mike Farris, Scott Miller and Webb Wilder. Each broadcast will feature three to four artists in 30-minute segments, followed by a free-form “Loveless Jam” where all the artists and their bands will be invited to collaborate on the fly.

The show will be produced by Todd Mayo, founder of Music City Media and WSM-AM radio show Bluegrass Underground. “Music City Roots: Live from the Loveless Cafe” will be emceed by legendary WSM-650 AM broadcaster Eddie Stubbs, guest hosted by artist Jim Lauderdale, and writer/NPR contributor/String Theory Media owner Craig Havighurst will interview the artists.

Audio of the shows will be streamed live on WSMonline.com, where they will also be archived for streaming on demand. “Music City Roots: Live From the Loveless Cafe” will also be syndicated internationally.

CO5 Adds Roberts, Reworks Staff

Radio promotion and marketing company CO5 Music is reshaping its operation announced co-CEOs Tracy Brown and Todd Sievers today (9/16). David Newmark, who served as VP Country Promotion since starting the Nashville division of CO5 in 2005, has been named VP of Business Development and will focus on new business ventures and business relations.

Denise Roberts has been hired as VP Country Promotion and will oversee the regional staff. At the end of July Roberts left a similar post at Stoney Creek Records, where she had been since March. Prior to that she worked as Director National Promotion for Universal South.

At CO5 Karen Durkot takes on added responsibilities as Senior Director of Country Promotion, becoming the veteran staff sergeant while Annie Sandor will focus on marketing strategies.

Jen Dalton has exited CO5 to take a position with Jive Records and will be based in Texas.

Also leaving is “Bubba” Wayne McManners who says he is going to be an entrepreneur. He adds, “I have really enjoyed my tenure with CO5 Nashville. In the last three years, I made a whole new world of friends in Country Music and I promise I will stay in touch with all of you. I wish everybody at CO5 the best.”

CMA Broadcast/Radio Nominations

Final nominees for the nation’s tcma-awardsop Country radio stations and broadcast personalities were delivered to Country Radio today, when Chuck Wicks revealed the 2009 CMA Broadcast Personality and Radio Station of the Year finalists live from Premiere Radio Networks’ New York City studios. The winners will be notified in mid-October and will be acknowledged at “The 43rd Annual CMA Awards.”

A tough race to call this year is who will claim bragging rights for the National Broadcast Personality of the Year. Nominee Bob Kingsley has won the trophy two times, in 2001, which was the inaugural year for the CMA National Broadcast Personality Award, and 2003. Lia Knight was nominated in 2003 and won in both 2005 and 2007. Nominated for the first time in 2008, Kix Brooks, of Brooks & Dunn, host of “American Country Countdown,” is nominated again in 2009 and if he wins it would be the first time that a County artist would claim a CMA Broadcast Awards trophy.
