T.J. Martell Foundation Announces Board Members

The T.J. Martell Foundation has appointed 17 new members to its board of directors, as well as two additional members as part of the foundation’s executive committee.

Among the new national Board of Directors members are Big Machine Label Group’s Scott Borchetta, Warner Music Nashville’s John Esposito, and Sandbox Entertainment’s Jason Owen. Borchetta and Esposito will both serve on the executive committee.

The T.J. Martell Foundation is a leading organization for cancer, leukemia and AIDS research, with longstanding ties to the music industry.

In March, the foundation named Greenburg Traurig’s Joel A. Katz as chairman of the board, succeeding founder Tony Martell, who died in November 2016.

The Board of Directors have voted to award nearly $1.3M in grants to outstanding scientists in seven prominent hospitals in five states. Katz said, “Donors from all over the United States come together to support the brightest scientists with the most innovative ideas from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Columbia University Medical Center, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, and Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.”

CMA Awards Voting Season Kicks Off

Voting season is beginning for the upcoming 51st Annual CMA Awards, and CMA members can now submit applications online for the 2017 CMA Broadcast Awards for Broadcast Personality, Station, and National Broadcast Personality of the Year at broadcast.CMAawards.com. CMA Broadcast Awards are presented for Personality and Station of the Year in four categories that are determined by market size (major, large, medium, and small), as well as CMA National Broadcast Personality of the Year.

The site will continue to accept submissions until Friday, June 30 at 6 p.m. CT. All entries must reflect performances and events between June 1, 2016 and May 31, 2017. CMA’s panel of judges, which includes radio and industry professionals, will be able to view and evaluate each entry online.

“The outstanding country radio stations and personalities we spotlight in the CMA Broadcast Awards are dedicated advocates rallying fans in support of our genre,” said CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern.

The eligibility period for “The 51st Annual CMA Awards” is July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. All voting for the CMA Awards will be conducted online. The first ballot and instructions will be emailed Monday, July 10 to CMA members in good standing who are eligible to vote. Voting for the first ballot closes Thursday, July 20 (6:00 PM/CT). The second ballot will be emailed to CMA members Monday, Aug. 14. Voting for the second ballot closes Thursday, Aug. 24 (6:00 PM/CT). The final nominees in each of the 12 categories will be announced later this summer. Winners of “The 51st Annual CMA Awards” will be determined in a final round of voting, and the third and final ballot will be emailed to CMA members Monday, Oct. 2. Voting for the CMA Awards final ballot ends Tuesday, Oct. 24 (6:00 PM/CT).

Stanley Cup On Display At Johnny Cash Museum Tonight

Nashville Predators fans can stop by the Johnny Cash Museum and Patsy Cline Museum entrance tonight (Wednesday, May 31) and grab a picture with the coveted National Hockey League Stanley Cup courtesy of NBC Sports. The Cup will be on display from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. CST at 119 Third Avenue South in Nashville.

The Johnny Cash Museum and Patsy Cline Museum hours of operation are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. CST and admission is $18.95 each.

Chris Stapleton Postpones Tour Dates, Cancels CMA Music Festival Appearance

Chris Stapleton has announced that he has postponed the upcoming three weeks of tour dates on his The All-American Road Show, including shows in California, Mississippi, Alabama and more.

Additionally, his appearance during CMA Music Festival on Sunday, June 11 has been canceled for Nashville. A replacement for Stapleton’s CMA Music Festival slot has not yet been announced. Stapleton’s publicist had no additional details for the postponed and canceled appearances.

Fans are asked to hold on to their tickets to the postponed shows on The All-American Road Show for now. A list of postponed shows is below:

Charlie Daniels’ The Journey Home Project Supports SHARE Military Initiative

Charlie Daniels‘ The Journey Home Project has teamed with The Shepherd’s Men Run to raise awareness and funds for the SHARE Military Initiative and Shepherd Center, a rehabilitation program that focuses on assessment and treatment for service men and women who have sustained a mild to moderate brain injury, along with co-occurring PTSD or other mental health concerns, from service in post-9/11 conflicts.

BMI songwriters LOCASH and Maggie Rose provided the entertainment for BMI’s recent Rooftop Series show on May 23, the first in BMI’s Summer Rooftop Concert Series. LOCASH were also honored with a Million-Air Award, for one million radio spins of “You’re Gonna Fly,” a song they wrote which was recorded by Keith Urban.

Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Charles Kelley To Honor Gregg Allman On CMT Music Awards

Responding to the request from artists who wanted to honor Gregg Allman‘s musical legacy, the CMT Music Awards have added a special tribute to Allman featuring Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker and Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley to the upcoming awards telecast on June 7. Additional participating artists will be announced soon.

“Gregg Allman and The Allman Brothers Band helped create the bedrock foundation of modern southern music,” said CMT President Brian Philips. “Over the weekend of his death, CMT’s most important artists reached out to see how we might honor Gregg at our awards. This tribute will celebrate Gregg Allman’s soul, charisma and enduring artistry. ‘The Road Goes On Forever,’ indeed.”

CMT also revealed today that Kelsea Ballerini (who is tied for the most CMT Music Awards nominations) and Little Big Town have been added to the lineup of performers. They join a growing list including a first time TV performance by The Chainsmokers and Florida Georgia Line, a Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood duet, a collaboration from Earth, Wind & Fire and Lady Antebellum, and performances by Blake Shelton, Brett Eldredge, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert and Thomas Rhett.  Show presenters will be announced next week.

 

NASH Next Talent Search Kicks Off Today

The NASH Next 2017 national talent search competition kicks off today (May 31) in over 60 markets across the U.S. Now in its third year, the annual grassroots search for the next rising country star is led by Cumulus Media and offers one lucky winner a record deal with NASH Next Records under the Big Machine Label Group and exposure on Cumulus radio stations nationwide.

Beginning today, local artists may enter the competition via the NASH Next website. Seventy-nine NASH/Cumulus stations in 62 markets will conduct local searches, with national participation made possible by Cumulus’ digital properties and syndicated country shows. Local markets will host live events or select their finalist by judging the contestants in a video performance of an original song, and then local winners will move on to the national challenge, where they will submit a live performance video showcasing their best original song. The top ten artists will be selected by industry professionals, and those national finalists will then compete at a live concert event hosted in Nashville in early November, where the panel of celebrity judges will select the NASH Next 2017 winner.

The winner of the five month national competition will be announced by Garth Brooks. NASH Next’s 2016 winner, Todd O’Neill, released his debut single “Love Again” in April and broke the top 50 on the country charts in early May, with his single continuing to climb the charts.

Cumulus listeners and local music industry professionals in their communities will first judge emerging artists in the competition, and finalists and the ultimate winner will be selected by a panel of judges including President/CEO Big Machine Label Group Scott Borchetta, Kix Brooks, and additional celebrity judges who will be announced at a later date.

Downtown Nashville Road Closures Announced For 2017 CMA Music Festival

The CMA Music Festival has announced road closures that will affect downtown Nashville traffic from June 1- June 13. Road closures will begin Thursday, June 1 at 7 a.m. and last until Tuesday, June 13 at 3 p.m.

The closures are due to this year’s festival lineup of hundreds of established and rising artists. The coveted Nissan Stadium stage will include performances from artists including Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Kelsea Ballerini, Florida Georgia Line, Trace Adkins and more.

 

Closures beginning Thursday, June 1:

7:00 AM – The northbound lane cutout of First Avenue will be closed from Broadway to Church Streets (reopens Thursday, June 1 by 7:00 PM).
7:00 AM – The First Avenue train station cutout will be closed (reopens Tuesday, June 13 at 3:00 PM).
9:00 AM – The northbound lane of Fifth Avenue will be closed from Demonbreun to Broadway (reopens Thursday, June 1 by 3:00 PM).

Musician and former Glee cast member Noah Guthrie recently stopped by the MusicRow offices to perform songs from his latest project, Love You Now. He offered “The Valley,” as well as a new take on the Prince classic “I Would Die 4 U.”

“It’s a crazy awesome love song, with great lyrics, but they get lost in the dance mix,” Guthrie said. “I wanted to draw that out, so I slowed the song down.”
