Lauren Daigle leads this year’s GMA Dove Awards nominees, earning six award nominations, including Song of the Year for her smash hit “You Say,” as well as Artist of the Year.

Duo for KING & COUNTRY, and Gospel mainstay Kirk Franklin, earned five nods each. Among for KING & COUNTRY’s nods are Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (“joy.”), and Pop Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year (for “God Only Knows”). RIAA Certifications: Chris Stapleton’s ‘Traveller’ Hits 4x Multi-Platinum

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has revealed a slate of recent Gold and Platinum certifications. Chris Stapleton‘s breakthrough debut solo album Traveller, which released in 2015, has been certified 4x Multi-Platinum as of July 24.

So far in August, Platinum single certifications have included Chase Rice‘s “Eyes On You,” the Jason Aldean/Miranda Lambert collaboration “Drowns The Whiskey,” and Kelsea Ballerini’s “Miss Me More.” Old Dominion‘s “Hotel Key” has been certified Gold as has their album Happy Endings. Lauren Daigle‘s “You Say” has been certified 2x Multi-Platinum.

In July, Maren Morris‘ debut album HERO was certified Platinum, while Keith Urban‘s 2018 album Graffiti U was certified Gold.

Blake Shelton earns three Gold and Platinum certifications for his singles “I Lived It,” “I’ll Name The Dogs,” and his latest chart-topper “God’s Country.” Stapleton’s signature rendition of “Tennessee Whiskey” reaches 6x Multi-Platinum status.

CMA To Host Neon Nashville Showcase At German Festival

The CMA is hosting a showcase, “Neon Nashville,” on Sept. 18 at Hamburg, Germany’s Reeperbahn Festival to help further country music’s international expansion. CMA will host a panel and networking reception during the festival as well. The showcase will feature performances by Ingrid Andress, Blanco Brown, Ilse DeLange (from the Netherlands) and Rachel Wammack. In addition to the festival, attendees can take part in the Reeperbahn Festival Conference and attend a panel titled “It Sounds Like Country,” which will explore the growing popularity of country in the European market and the diversity of the genre. The panel includes industry professionals Milly Olykan (CMA Vice President of International Relations & Development, USA), Sarah Casey (United Talent Agency Agent, U.K.), Fred Casimir (BMG Executive Vice President, Global Repertoire & Marketing, Germany) and Oliver Hoppe (Wizard Promotions Managing Director, Germany).

 

Ryan Kroon Joins Big Loud/Maverick Management Team

Ryan Kroon has joined BigLoud/Maverick as a day-to-day manager. An Oregon native and graduate of the University of Oregon, Kroon moved to Nashville in 2015 and got his start at Triple 8 Management, followed by four years at Red Light Management, where he handled day-to-day duties for Sam Hunt plus new talents Everette and Conner Smith.

Russ And Tori Taff To Receive ASCAP Golden Note Award

Russ and Tori Taff will be honored by ASCAP with its prestigious Golden Note Award at the 41st annual ASCAP Christian Music Awards Sept. 16 at The Franklin Theatre in downtown Franklin, Tennessee.

Taff has earned six Grammy Awards and 18 Dove Awards during his 40-year career. He was barely out of his teens when he was asked to join the gospel group The Imperials as their lead singer, and a few years later pursued his own solo career. Taff’s lyrics, often co-written with his wife Tori, chronicled his personal spiritual path. To date, he has recorded 11 solo albums, including industry benchmarks Medals, Russ Taff and Under Their Influence. His classic singles include “We Will Stand,” “I’m Not Alone,” “Not Gonna Bow” and “Eagle Song.” Grammy-nominated songwriter and author Tori Taff co-wrote I Still Believe: A Memoir of Wreckage, Recovery, and Relentless Love, a book and documentary film that chronicles her husband’s life from childhood to stardom and from his hidden struggle with alcohol to his path to recovery. The book and film were released earlier this year.

Gracing the cover of the latest issue is EMI Nashville’s Brothers Osborne. Two sons from a working-class family, John and TJ Osborne grew up in a small Maryland water town, writing and playing songs for friends and family in their father’s shed.

John moved to Nashville first to play in other bands, and two years later, TJ joined him. It was then they formed Brothers Osborne as a duo that blends equal parts country and rock into one of the freshest, most identifiable sounds to come out of Nashville in recent years.

The singer/songwriter siblings currently reign as three-time CMA Vocal Duo of the Year in addition to being named ACM Vocal Duo of the Year the past two years. Overall, Brothers Osborne has collected four CMA and five ACM trophies including Video of the Year wins for their Top 10 GRAMMY-nominated Platinum single “It Ain’t My Fault.”

Brothers Osborne’s debut album Pawn Shop was released January 2016 and has been certified Gold by the RIAA. Pawn Shop features three GRAMMY-nominated tracks including “It Ain’t My Fault,” the Platinum-certified No. 1 smash hit “Stay A Little Longer,” as well as Top 25 hit “21 Summer.”

Their current Top 40 single “I Don’t Remember Me (Before You)” is included on their sophomore album, Port Saint Joe, which continues to receive acclaimed reviews from critics and fans alike and was nominated for Best Country Album at the 61st GRAMMY Awards.

Their new album, Live At The Ryman, releases Oct. 11. The project’s 12 tracks were captured from three sold-out shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

Brothers Osborne has toured with Eric Church, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert and more. The duo just wrapped their Headlining World Tour which hit over 40 markets including London, Toronto, New York and Los Angeles. Later this year they will play select dates with Chris Stapleton and Willie Nelson.

On The Row: Temecula Road

Country trio Temecula Road recently made the three-day road trip from their hometown in Temecula, California to become some of Nashville’s most recent residents.

The trio’s Dawson Anderson, and sisters Maddie and Emma Salute, have already earned a chart hit, as their single “Fades” reached No. 3 on the Radio Disney Country Top 50 chart. The song’s video became something of a goodbye homage to California, filmed just days before they moved to Nashville.

“We shot the video, had a goodbye party the next day in Temecula, and then we drove cross-country to Nashville,” Dawson notes.

They’ve followed the hit with “Never Knew I Needed You,” which the trio’s Dawson Anderson penned with Ben Goldsmith and Lindsay Rimes. The group shot the song’s music video at Nashville’s Douglas Corner; the clip will release in the coming weeks.

“This is one of the first times where we have a full band performance onstage for a video,” Anderson says. “The funny thing is, Disney hired our actual bass player for the video and they didn’t know he was our bass player.”

During a recent visit to the MusicRow offices, the trio offered renditions of “Never Knew I Needed You,” as well as the yet-to-be-recorded “Take Back” and “Maybe Not.”

Since relocating to Nashville, the group has been hard at work in the songwriting rooms, writing four or five times per week, and making more industry contacts.

“My first month of being in Nashville, I added more people to my contact list than I ever had,” says Emma.

Maddie agrees. “In Temecula we are two hours from Los Angeles, so we have to schedule writes, stay the night and schedule a hotel room. Here you can just write.”

“We’ve been able to figure out what sound we want for the group more and you have a blank canvas when you go into a write. It’s cool to see what kind of music comes out now that we live here, versus visiting from Los Angeles.”

George Strait Extends “Strait To Vegas” Shows To 2020

George Strait will expand his “Strait To Vegas” shows into 2020, with two shows at T-Mobile Arena on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1. Tickets go on sale on Friday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. local time via straittovegas.com. Next month, the iconic country entertainer will release a limited-edition re-issue of his 1995 Strait Out of the Box: Part 1, exclusively with Walmart beginning Sept. 13. That same day, he will celebrate the release of the official soundtrack for Country Music–A Film By Ken Burns, which features Strait’s classic “Amarillo By Morning.”

Earlier this year, Strait released his 27th No. 1 country album, with Honky Tonk Time Machine on MCA Nashville.

Americana Announces 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award Honorees

The Americana Music Association has announced this year’s slate of Lifetime Achievement Award honorees for its 18th annual Americana Honors & Awards show on Sept. 11. This group of top-honor recipients includes Felice and Boudleaux Bryant (President’s Award), Elvis Costello (Songwriting), Delbert McClinton (Performance) and Maria Muldaur (Trailblazer). Mavis Staples will be making her Honors & Awards debut as the Association recognizes her incomparable career.

As previously announced, Rhiannon Giddens and the late Frank Johnson will both be honored with the inaugural Legacy of Americana Award, presented in partnership with the National Museum of African American Music. Staples and this year’s honorees will be celebrated at the prestigious ceremony held at the Ryman Auditorium, which serves as the hallmark event of the association’s 20th annual AMERICANAFEST, taking place Sept. 10-15 in Nashville.

“We are beyond humbled to honor this group of incredibly venerable musicians,” said Jed Hilly, Executive Director of the Americana Music Association. “All of these artists are luminaries in their own right and have helped to build a perennial foundation for Americana music to prosper as an art form today. Our community looks forward to welcoming them with open arms on our biggest night of the year in September.”

In addition to these top Lifetime Achievement Awards, the association also honors distinguished members of the music community with six member-voted annual awards, revealing the winners on Americana music’s biggest night at the Ryman Auditorium. View this year’s nominees here.

The 2019 President’s Award will be posthumously given to Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, a groundbreaking husband-and-wife pairing who were known as Nashville’s first professional songwriting team. Felice had dreamed of her fateful encounter with her soon-to-be husband Diadorius Boudleaux Bryant when the two first met in 1945. The songwriting power couple went on to pen almost 6,000 songs together over the next three decades, selling over 200 million records with cuts by the Grateful Dead, Roy Orbison, Simon & Garfunkel and most notably, the Everly Brothers. With timeless classics like “Bye Bye Love” and “All I Have to Do Is Dream” under their belts, it’s no surprise that the Bryants’ musical contributions have also been largely recognized with inductions into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Elvis Costello, this year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, is well-known for his unapologetically fervent approach to lyrics. Since his pub-rock debut in the late ‘70s, Costello’s punk moxie and ability to meld an array of influences have made him one of the most innovative songwriters to come along since Bob Dylan. Backed by his famous band the Attractions, he quickly made a name for himself with albums that dove into several genres from garage-rock and reggae to soul and more. Costello’s solo endeavors have found him collaborating with T Bone Burnett, Paul McCartney and the late Allen Toussaint. Whether he was exploring a rootsier palette alongside Burnett, practicing classical compositions with the Brodsky Quartet or self-producing with the Imposters, this incomparable songwriter’s musical versatility is anchored by his distinctive take on love and politics, running an unmistakable common thread throughout his body of work.

Nobody knows how to light up the stage quite like multi-Grammy winner Delbert McClinton, who will be receiving the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance. From his early bands The Straitjackets and The Rondels to his current iteration with the Self-Made Men + Dana, he continues to sell out concert halls coast to coast. Following his rise as a prominent figure in the flourishing Texas music scene of the mid-‘70s and ‘80s, McClinton’s impact ultimately expanded beyond state lines. The roots music veteran began his highly lauded career as a professional harmonica player before becoming a formative artist who has since recorded award-winning as well as chart-topping works, including his funk-inflected staple “Giving It Up for Your Love” (1980). McClinton has graced many distinguished stages throughout the last six decades, lending his palpable energy and dynamic stage presence to performances on Saturday Night Live and Austin City Limits, to name a few. As Lyle Lovett lovingly puts it, “If we could all sing like we want to, we’d all sound like Delbert McClinton.”

After coming up through the folk music revival of the 1960s, Maria Muldaur, this year’s Americana Trailblazer Award recipient, performed with a handful of groups including Jim Kweskin & The Jug Band where she became instrumental in reinvigorating Appalachian roots music and preserving its place outside of the great American songbook. After their disbandment and a divorce from her then-husband Geoff who was also in the group, she found an opportunity to reassess her own artistic vision. In 1973, Muldaur’s solo debut signaled the start of a promising path for someone who was willing to carve out her own space in the music industry, beginning with her Grammy-nominated classic, “Midnight at the Oasis.” What followed was a fruitful journey that saw Muldaur delving into the growing umbrella of Americana music, seamlessly switching lanes from folk and country to gospel and blues with masterful ease. The latter became a particular sweet spot that’s led to critically acclaimed collaborations with blues titans Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples. Today, Muldaur continues to charm audiences by sharing passionate matters of the heart with her alluring voice.

2007 “Spirit of Americana” Free Speech Award Honoree Mavis Staples will be recognized at this year’s Americana Honors & Awards as the Association celebrates her nearly seven-decade career and inspiration as an enduring pillar of hope and justice. Since her breakthrough as a family member of the uplifting gospel group The Staple Singers during the divisive Civil Rights Movement to her revered solo career today, the 80-year-old soul icon understands what it means to carry on. Staples has constantly used her commanding voice—both in action and in song—to instill perseverance in listeners across multiple generations, while also reminding America that the fight for true equality is still alive and well, and so is she. The Kennedy Center Honoree’s latest album, “We Get By,” serves as a touchstone for her timely message of love, faith and joy.

As previously announced, Rhiannon Giddens and the late Frank Johnson, a pioneering American folk musician and brass band leader from the Antebellum era, will be honored with the inaugural Legacy of Americana Award. In partnership with the National Museum of African American Music, this new award aims to shine a light on both of these musicians’ unparalleled influences on American roots music.

The Academy of Country Music has revealed another round of talent participating in the 13th Annual ACM Honors. Talent confirmed to appear include Lauren Alaina, Bobby Bones, Caylee Hammack, Miranda Lambert, Shane McAnally, Midland, Billy Joe Shaver and Chris Young. The show takes place Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

Previously announced appearances include this year’s ACM Entertainer of the Year Keith Urban, Chris Janson, Maddie & Tae, Barbara Mandrell, Ashley McBryde, Tenille Townes and Trisha Yearwood.

As previously announced, Special Award recipients to be celebrated at the 13th Annual ACM Honors include Brooks & Dunn and Martina McBride (ACM Cliffie Stone Icon Award),Rodney Crowell, Kye Fleming and Billy Joe Shaver (ACM Poet’s Award), Gayle Holcomb (ACM Gary Haber Lifting Lives Award), Miranda Lambert (ACM Gene Weed Milestone Award), Kacey Musgraves (ACM Jim Reeves International Award), and A Star Is Born (ACM Tex Ritter Film Award). The evening will also honor winners of the Industry and Studio Recording Awards, along with Songwriter of the Year Award winner, Shane McAnally.

Midland Lets It Roll For The Recording Academy

Midland recently participated in two Recording Academy events, including performing at the 25-year anniversary gala for The Recording Academy’s Texas chapter in Austin, followed by a performance at downtown Los Angeles’ Grammy Museum. The trio will release their sophomore album Let It Roll on Aug. 23.

MCA Nashville’s Jordan Davis celebrated several accomplishments earlier this month including his second consecutive No.1 hit single “Take It From Me” reaching Platinum certification by the RIAA.  Jordan’s debut album, Home State, features “Take It From Me” as well as his other No.1 Platinum hit “Singles You Up,” and his current single “Slow Dance In A Parking Lot,” which is nearing Top 30 at country radio.

In addition, several members from iHeartRadio surprised Jordan with his Best New Artist Award which he won earlier this year as part of the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Other Best New Artist winners in their respective genres include Ella Mai, Marshmello and lovelytheband.
