Law Firms Recognized, Steve Wariner Honored, 2 Staffers Leave rpm

The Tennessee State Legislature honored Steve Wariner on May 28 with Senate Joint Resolution 469. The resolution recognizes Wariner as “a Renaissance man by any standard…a recording artist, touring performer, songwriter, publisher, producer, record executive, an avid painter and a true humanitarian” and commends him “for the significant contributions he has made to the growth of country music.” The resolution also commends Wariner for honoring Chet Atkins with his upcoming release, Steve Wariner. c.g.p., My Tribute to Chet Atkins, and for giving a benefit concert on July 7 at the Loveless Barn for the Chet Atkins Music Education Fund.

As CMA Music Festival draws near, workers install the final components of the GAC wrap on the Sommet Center’s glass tower. A 50 foot tall Martina McBride will welcome fans to next week’s event.

Shawn Pennington, formerly of Dale Morris & Associates, has launched his own artist management and consulting company called Matchless Management. Details, including the client roster, are pending. The Pittsburgh, PA native spent close to 10 years with Morris, working closely with such artists as John Rich, Big & Rich, Randy Owen, and Cowboy Troy. mullinMegan Mullins’ new video “Long Past Gone” has been added to GAC, CMT and CMT Pure. The shoot took place on California’s Pacific Coast and was created by Feewill Films in association with Picture Vision Pictures. Directed by Curt Apanovich, produced by William Shockley, David Bennett and executive produced by John Small of Picture Visions, the clip was filmed with the RED camera. Mullins is on Stoney Creek Records, a Broken Bow Records imprint.

LYRIC Financial announces it has begun funding advances for writers and publishers who have agreements with major publishers UMG, Warner Chappell, EMI and Sony. The company is now working with mechanical royalty revenue streams in addition to performance royalties. Lyric founder Eli Ball stated, “While mechanical royalties are not as strong as they once were, they are still a significant source of income to many writers and publishers. McGraw Moves To Red Light Management

NASHVILLE– Coran Capshaw has signed megastar Tim McGraw to his Red Light Management artist roster. McGraw will be joining Dave Matthews Band and Phish as Capshaw’s primary focus.

Erv Woolsey Partners With 377 Management’s Enzo Divincenzo

The Erv Woolsey Agency’s Erv Woolsey and Enzo Divincenzo of 377 Management have formed a joint venture to manage and develop new country music acts.  Woolsey’s current management roster includes Hall of Fame member George Strait and former CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Lee Ann Womack, while Divincenzo manages Texas favorites Cross Canadian Ragweed, Stoney LaRue and the Randy Rogers Band, but the new venture will primarily focus on new artists. Both managers will retain their current offices and staffs.

“I have known Enzo for many years through our association at MCA Records and have watched him grow his management organization in the right way,” Woolsey said. “He brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the table and will give us the opportunity to expand both of our bases.”

“Talk Back Trembling Lips” Singer Ernie Ashworth Passes Away

Grand Ole Opry member and country hitmaker Ernie Ashworth passed away March 2 at the age of 80 in Nashville. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, the singer enjoyed several top 10 singles from the late ‘50s through the ‘60s and wrote songs for artists including Little Jimmy Dickens, Carl Smith and Johnny Horton. Ashworth is a member of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Services will be  Wednesday (3/4) at Anthony Funeral Home, 337 McMurry Blvd. in Hartsville, TN, with visitation from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a Masonic service beginning at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday (3/5) from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Nashville’s Woodlawn Cemetery.

David Lipscomb Memorial Service Set

A memorial service for Christian-music executive David Lipscomb will be held tomorrow (Tuesday, March 3) at 11 a.m. at The People’s Church in Franklin.
David Lipscomb was the co-founder of Overflow Management, Inc. with partner Geoff Moore. The Christian-music firm handles Moore, as well as the recording bands The Afters, Hyperstatic Union and StorySide B. He was also active in the Gospel Music Association, serving as a MAPS committee member during the annual Gospel Music Week celebrations.

A trusted mentor and adviser to many in his field, David Lipscomb died at age 45 on February 25 of pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife Robi and by sons D.J. and Dale, daughter-in-law Amanda, mother Sophie and sister Tina. Former BMI Employee Charlie Parker Passes

Longtime BMI employee Charlie Parker passed away on Friday afternoon, Feb. 27. Many of his former coworkers say that they have very fond memories of Parker’s 31 years as the PRO’s custodian prior to his retirement. Visitation with Parker’s family will be Wed., March 4, from 5-7PM; followed by the funeral at 7 PM, at Big Harpeth Primitive Baptist Church, 522 Meridian St., Nashville, TN 37207, (615) 256-7375.

Emerson Drive, Management Part Ways

MusicRow has learned that Canadian/Nashville-based band Emerson Drive has split ways with Big Ride Management. The act had been with Big Ride, headed by Gerry Leiske, for many years, including during its mega-No. 1-hit, “Moments” in 2007. Earlier this year, Emerson Drive, on Midas Records, joined forces with the Valory Music Co. The band’s new CD, Believe, is scheduled for an April 7, 2009 release. The current single is “Belongs To You.”

Bentley Is Latest Addition To Vector Roster

Dierks Bentley has signed with Vector Management, the powerhouse company headed by Ken Levitan. The Capitol Records Nashville artist was previously with Scott Kernahan’s Rogue Music.

Bentley is planning the Feb. 3 release of new album,
Feel That Fire, and heading out on the final leg of Brad Paisley’s Paisley Party Tour this weekend. He was in New York earlier Monday (1/12) to participate in iTunes’ Live From Soho at the Apple Store, where he joins Taylor Swift as the only country artists who have taken part in the series.
