Cheat Codes has unveiled new details behind their upcoming country collaboration album, One Night in Nashville – Presented by Cheat Codes, which arrives Jan. 27. Ahead of the project’s release, the group has dropped a new single, “Bets On Us,” with Dolly Parton.
“Having Dolly on this album is so surreal and a full circle moment for me, personally,” shares the trio’s Matthew Russell. “As someone who grew up in the midwest, my family and I would go to her event in the Great Smokey Mountains. Her larger than life photos were everywhere and now having a song with one of the biggest music legends of all time and especially in the country space is incredible.”
“I love how ‘Bets on Us’ turned out with Cheat Codes,” adds Parton. “When I heard this song, I felt like I could contribute something special.”
Parton’s track record of working with DJs from the dance/ EDM space includes 2021’s “Jolene (Destructo Remix),” 2019’s No. 1 Gold-certified hit “Faith” featuring Galantis & Mr. Probz, 1997’s top 5 “Peace Train” remix and more.
Five singles have been released thus far, including the current top 40 hit “I Remember” featuring Russell Dickerson. Additional advance tracks include “One Night Left” with MacKenzie Porter, “Lose You” featuring Jimmie Allen, “How Do You Love” featuring Lee Brice & Lindsay Ell, and “Never Love You Again” featuring Little Big Town and Bryn Christopher.
The new country collaboration project is an entirely new endeavor for Cheat Codes, who have put out many records in the electronic dance, pop, and alt rock genres.
“Going to the coolest city ever after making one song turned into fourteen and we wanted to make an entire album. We knew it was a different world musically from the one we lived in, but we knew we wanted to be a part of it,” the trio share. “We felt so comforted and welcomed by this incredible community of creators. The journey that began two years ago, now gets to be heard around the world, and we could not be more excited about this collection of songs.”

Griffen Palmer Signs With Big Loud Records

Singer-songwriter and NBC’s Songland winner Griffen Palmer has signed with Big Loud Records.
An Ontario native, Palmer grew up in a musical family, with early influences including John Mayer, Kings of Leon, Elton John, The Eagles and Bruce Hornsby. His father bought him a drum kit in elementary school and soon after, the Palmer found himself writing originals of his own.
Discovering a love for country music during college at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, Palmer played dive bars around campus, refining his performing and writing skills. Shortly after graduation, he was introduced to songwriter Geoff Warburton at a house party, and the two formed a creative partnership.
Palmer signed a publishing deal with Big Loud Publishing in 2019, shortly after relocating to Nashville. He soon began landing cuts with Florida Georgia Line, Keith Urban, The Band Camino, Chelsea Cutler, Jade Eagleson, and more.
“Griffen is an incredible talent, and we couldn’t be more proud to keep him in the Big Loud family as a recording artist,” says Big Loud Partner/CEO Seth England. “His music is representative of who he is: thoughtful, strong, complex, nuanced. In 2020, Palmer won his episode of NBC’s Songland after collaborating with Shane McAnally, Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard on the romantic ballad, “Second Guessing.” The rising wordsmith is releasing his solo version of the song as his Big Loud Records debut single this Friday (Jan. 13). His full-length debut album will arrive later this year.
Mandy McCormack Named EVP Of Marketing & Partner Strategy For Trisha Yearwood, Inc.

Industry veteran Mandy McCormack has been named Executive Vice President of Marketing & Partner Strategy for Trisha Yearwood, Inc.
In this role, the Nashville-based executive will be tasked with managing brand partnerships, overseeing marketing plans, seeking new business ventures and providing strategic consultation in all lanes of Yearwood’s business.
McCormack’s more than 25-year career began in the 1990s with programming roles at After Midnite with Blair Garner, Premiere Radio Networks and KZLA/Los Angeles. She later shifted to records with a regional promotion position for Vivaton! Records.
In 2005, McCormack joined the inaugural promotion team that launched Big Machine Records, and while there, she served as Director/Midwest Regional Promotion and Director/West Coast Regional Promotion. In 2011, she was promoted to National Director/Promotion Strategy for the entire label group, overseeing syndication and radio marketing. During her decade-long tenure at BMLG, her success was recognized with Country Aircheck/CRS Awards for Regional Promotion Director of the Year (2010) and National Promotion Director of the Year (2012).
Most recently, McCormack spent eight years as Sr. VP of Radio Promotion & Marketing | Artist Strategy for Garth Brooks’ Pearl Records and TeamTY. From 2016-22 she also served as Executive Producer for SiriusXM’s The Garth Channel as an extension of her Pearl Records duties.

Engineer Mark Capps Killed In Police-Involved Shooting
/by LB CantrellMark Capps, the Grammy-winning recording engineer, was shot and killed Thursday (Jan. 5) by a Nashville SWAT team member. He was 54.
According to multiple reports, Mark was killed when police responded to an incident in which he had allegedly held his wife and adult stepdaughter hostage.
Police said that Mark’s wife and stepdaughter escaped from the home Thursday morning and filed a report. The SWAT team showed up at the house and when Mark presented a gun in his doorway, he was shot.
Days before the incident, Mark lost his brother, Jeff Capps, another member of the music community in Nashville. Mark and Jeff are the sons of the late Jimmy Capps, a prolific studio guitarist and a member of the Grand Ole Opry’s house band for more than 50 years. Jimmy Capps died in June of 2020.
Mark Capps’ credit list includes a wide array of country greats, including Alabama, Brooks & Dunn, Chris Young, Aaron Tippin, Conway Twitty, Joe Diffie, the Oak Ridge Boys, Big & Rich, John Michael Montgomery, Kenny Rogers, and The Chicks. He is also credited on projects for Neil Diamond, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, the Gaither Vocal Band, Barry Manilow, Donna Summer, the Mavericks, Anita Cochran, Kenny Loggins, and Olivia Newton-John.
For the last 18 years, Mark Capps has been an integral employee of The Isaacs. In a social media post, the group shared that, “this conduct does not represent the Mark that [they] have known.”
Mark was a four-time Grammy winner for his work with Jimmy Sturr & His Orchestra.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Capps; mother, Anne Bridges Capps; and brother, Jeffery Allen Capps.
He is survived by his wife Tara Solomon Capps, daughter Summer Capps, bonus daughter Mollie Mckenzie Acuff, stepmother Michele Voan Capps, his Isaacs family: Lily Isaacs, Ben Isaacs, Sonya Isaacs Yeary, Becky Isaacs Bowman; also “Poppa” Jimmy Fortune; along with aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends.
A celebration of life service will be held for Mark on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Sellars Funeral Home at Mount Juliet, 2229 N. Mount Juliet Road, Mount Juliet, Tennessee. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until service begins.

Chris Schuler Returns To UMG As VP Of Promotion At Capitol Records Nashville

Capitol Records Nashville has announced the hiring of Chris Schuler as VP of Promotion, effective Jan. 9. Schuler takes the helm following the recent retirement of industry veteran Bobby Young.
The Capitol Records Nashville artist roster includes Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Mickey Guyton, Caylee Hammack, Jon Pardi, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and Little Big Town.
A Middle Tennessee State University graduate, Schuler began his career in the Radio and TV/Film department of BMI. He then joined Mercury Nashville as a promotion coordinator and worked his way up to becoming VP of Promotion & Radio Marketing in 2019, where he contributed to the success of artists across all four imprints of UMG Nashville.
Most recently, Schuler spent time at as VP of Promotion at Arista Nashville, before leaving in November.
“Finding the perfect person to lead Capitol Nashville’s promo department has always been a challenging and weighty decision,” says UMG Nashville EVP of Promotion Royce Risser. “Chris Schuler is the absolute perfect fit, and I cannot express how happy we are to have him back home at UMG. Chapel Hart Kick Off 2023 With Mississippi House Honor

Chapel Hart was honored by the Mississippi House of Representatives on Jan. 4 with House Resolution 2 (HR2).
Authored by Representative Jansen Owen (R – Poplarville), HR2 congratulates the group on their success and positive representation of the state of Mississippi. After the presentation, Chapel Hart performed for a packed Capitol Rotunda filled with legislators, staffers, lobbyists and visitors.
The trio, who were named as part of MusicRow‘s Next Big Thing Class of 2023, consists of sisters Danica and Devynn Hart and first cousin Trea Swindle, who hail from Poplarville. The group exploded onto the country scene with their Golden Buzzer performance of their original song “You Can Have Him, Jolene” on America’s Got Talent last year. Following their run as finalists on AGT, the group made their debut at the Grand Ole Opry.
Chapel Hart is gearing up for their first nationwide headlining tour, “The Glory Days Tour,” which kicks off Jan. 26 in Wichita, Kansas and runs coast to coast with 60 shows.
Kasey Tyndall Releases Part One Of New Docuseries

Kasey Tyndall has released part one of her new two-episode docuseries.
She recruited her inner country circle, including Lainey Wilson, Drake White, Jenna LaMaster and Meghan Patrick, for the debut episode, which peels back the curtain on her redneck roots and early days in Music City.
Tyndall and Dylan Marlowe have also released their honest new track, “Place For Me.” In the hopeful ballad, the duo harmonize about the best part of their southern roots. The track was written by Tyndall, Jason Gantt, Jason Nix and LaMaster, and dives into what heaven looks like for rednecks.
“One day I was thinking that if my rowdy Granddaddy could get into Heaven so could I, which led me to write this song,” laughs Tyndall. “It reminds me of a bible verse in Matthew, where it says to store your treasures in Heaven. If I had to pick my treasures, it would be what we wrote about in the song. I’m so glad that Dylan Marlowe wanted to jump on the song with me. He’s an incredible artist and when he heard the song he loved it as much as I did, so it just felt right.”
Tyndall will be hitting the road with Tracy Lawrence on some dates early this year.
‘Austin City Limits Hall Of Fame Honors Sheryl Crow’ To Premiere Jan. 7
/by Lorie HollabaughAustin City Limits will return on Jan. 7 with a special installment, Austin City Limits 8th Annual Hall of Fame Honors Sheryl Crow, celebrating singer-songwriter and new inductee Sheryl Crow.
The tribute showcases Crow’s Hall of Fame tribute and features extended highlights, including induction speeches and vintage clips from her appearances on Austin City Limits. It also includes performances from Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, Brittney Spencer and Lucius’ Jess Wolfe. The hour opens with highlights from Crow’s Austin City Limits debut in 1997, performing numbers from her landmark debut Tuesday Night Music Club.
The hour-long broadcast will premiere on PBS and will be available to stream online beginning Jan. 8 at pbs.org/austincitylimits. A special companion Hall of Fame hour will salute fellow inductee Joe Ely and will close out Season 48 on Feb. 25.
“The whole idea behind our annual Hall of Fame celebration is to honor the artists who helped to build the legacy of Austin City Limits for almost half a century,” explains ACL executive producer Terry Lickona. “There’s a special magic that happens with these annual shows, and it’s just too much to pack in a single one-hour episode, so we decided to give each honoree their own hour and not sacrifice a single word or note of music.”
Season 48 of the classic show will feature performances by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and Adia Victoria, Maren Morris, Spoon and more.
Country Music Abounds At Upcoming 2023 RodeoHouston Season
/by Lydia FarthingThe Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has unveiled its entertainment lineup for the 2023 Rodeo season, scheduled for Feb. 28 – March 19. Featuring a variety of genres, including country, EDM, hip-hop, Norteño, pop, rock and Christian, many of the artists will make their RodeoHouston debut in 2023.
MCA Nashville recording artist Parker McCollum will herald in the 2023 season as he performs on opening day (Feb. 28), while multi-Platinum entertainer Luke Bryan closes the season out at the RodeoHouston Finals on March 19. Among other country artists gracing this year’s RodeoHouston lineup will be Brooks & Dunn, Walker Hayes, Zac Brown Band, Jason Aldean, Jon Pardi, Ashley McBryde, Cody Jinks, Kenny Chesney, Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson and Brad Paisley.
“We are thrilled to welcome back so many talented artists including some fan favorites such as Houston rap legend, Bun B who will be taking the stage alongside some additional iconic southern performers,” notes Chris Boleman, Rodeo President & CEO. “The level of talent we have in this lineup will get the fans excited, including Texas’ own Parker McCollum, who is helping us kick off this 2023, star lineup on Opening Day.”

Nate Smith Earns First MusicRow No. 1
/by Alex ParryNate Smith earns his first No. 1 on the MusicRow CountryBreakout Radio Chart this week with “Whiskey On You.” Smith was signed by Sony Music Nashville November of 2021 and will release his self-titled album in February.
“Whiskey On You” was co-written by Smith, Lindsay Rimes and Russell Sutton and was certified Gold by the RIAA. Smith will join Thomas Rhett on the “Home Team Tour 23” in May. He ranked No. 66 on MusicRow’s Top Songwriters of 2022.
