The country music scene is rocking this week.
Blasting into the dog days of summer with tempo tunes are Dan + Shay, Robyn Ottolini, Justin Moore, Reyna Roberts, Breland and our Disc of the Day winner, Walker Hayes.
DISClaimer also has a Latin tinge this week thanks to contributions from Stephanie Urbina Jones and Andrea Vasquez, the latter of whom takes home the DISCovery Award.
CARRIE CUNNINGHAM / “Just Like”
Writers: Carrie Cunningham/Riley Roth; Producers: Carrie Cunningham/Scott Gerow; Label: Music City Melodies
– She calls it “disco country.” I don’t know about that, but along with the insistent R&B groove you get a cool, throaty alto vocalist with total confidence and a solid piece of songwriting. Nicely done.
WALKER HAYES / “Good With Me”
Writers: Walker Hayes/Shane McAnally/Scott Stepakoff; Producers: Walker Hayes/Joe Thibodeau; Label: Monument Records/RCA
– Just when you were wondering what happened to the “Fancy Like” guy, he’s back with a hillbilly earworm that is just as delightful. This ditty is one big grin from start to finish. I love that the verses touch on hot-button topics and the choruses toss ‘em all out the window to warble merrily about good times at the lake. A complete delight.
ANDREA VASQUEZ / “The Bed You Made”
Writers: Andrea Vasquez/Hayley Cardona/Emily Davis; Producer: Chris Condon; Label: AV
– Vasquez is a Song Suffragette who has built a local reputation for her showy club performances. The title tune of her album is a cautionary saga about the consequences of his cheating, delivered in a penetrating, powerful vocal. Promising.
DAN + SHAY / “We Should Get Married”
Writers: Dan Smyers/Jimmy Robbins/Ernest Keith Smith; Producers: Dan Smyers/Scott Hendricks; Label: Warner Music Nashville
– The single remains the red-hot radio fave “Save Me the Trouble.” But in this new video and track, the duo steps out of their balladeer typecasting to show that they can lay down a zippy, dancefloor banger with the best of ‘em. A rampaging blast.
STEPHANIE URBINA JONES & WENDY MOTEN / “Rhinestone Cowgirl”
Writer: Larry Weiss; Producers: Stephanie Urbina Jones/Preston Sullivan; Label: Global Eyes Entertainment, LP /Casa Del Rio Records
– Jones and her Honky-Tonk Mariachi band give this Latina flavor. Time Jumpers member and The Voice runner-up Moten brings the vocal firepower. A female duet in country is rare, and this dandy update of the 1975 Glen Campbell classic makes you eager to hear more. Loved every minute.
BRELAND / “Cowboy Don’t”
Writers: Breland/Zachary Manno/Haleey Mae Campbell; Producers: Sam Sumser/Sean Small/Zachary Manno; Label: Bad Realm/Atlantic Records
– Buckle up. This one’s a thrilling ride. Cowboys will break your heart and treat you like a one-night stand, but Breland promises he won’t on this breakneck country rocker. I think I hear a hit.
BRYAN MARTIN / “We Ride”
Writers: Bryan Martin/Vernon Brown; Producer: Nick Gibbens; Label: Average Joes Entertainment
– This moody, midtempo track wears its southern-rock influence and blue-collar attitude with pride. Martin has a big social media following, and I’ll bet a whole lot of those followers are White, working-class men. This week, his career took a step forward with his debut performance at the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday evening.
BRIAN KELLEY / “Dirt Cheap”
Writers: Seth Ennis/Wyatt McCubbin/Andy Sheridan; Producer: Dann Huff; Label: Big Machine Records
– Mellow, swaying and gently bopping. It’s an ode to country living, complete with green grass, tin-roof rain, fishing, praying, front-porch swinging, fresh air and a slower-paced lifestyle. Laid-back twang that’s smooth sailing all the way.
GHOST PARTY / “Yankee Reaper”
Writer: McCullough Ferguson; Producer: Steve Christensen; Label: Ghost Party
– It says here that they’re a “Texas psychedelic country band.” It sounds more like garage-country with guitar twang and steel playing in a deep well, plus a whispery lead singer buried in a muddy mix. A thrashing drummer keeps uptempo time. Perhaps “bizarre” is the word I’m looking for.
JUSTIN MOORE / “She’s Got Lovin’ On Her Mind”
Writers: Justin Moore/Brandon Kinney/Jeremy Stover; Producer: Jeremy Stover; Label: The Valory Music Co.
– It’s a country rocker with a naked hottie on its brain.
ROBYN OTTOLINI / “All My Friends Are Hot”
Writers: Robyn Ottolini/Emily Reid; Producer: Cameron Jaymes; Label: Warner Music Nashville/Aleu Records
– A boatload of fun. These gals are out for a par-tay, fellas. They are all babes who turn heads, tie tongues and get free drinks. The lyrics are clever as heck and the track rocks with gusto.
PAT BOONE & CRYSTAL GAYLE / “You and I”
Writer: Frank J. Myers; Producers: Jimmy Nichols/Frank J. Myers; Label: The Gold Label
– Boone was a 1950s pop star and teen heartthrob who is now releasing his first country album. He’s a Nashville native who married Red Foley’s daughter Shirley. She passed away in 2019, and this tune is dedicated to her. It’s a remake of the 1982 duet by Crystal Gayle and Eddie Rabbitt, and she recreates her harmony part here. The ballad’s languid production is awash in strings and steel.
REYNA ROBERTS / “Louisiana”
Writers: none listed; Producers: none listed; Label: Empire Nashville
– Her debut country album drops a week from Friday. Titled Bad Girl Bible, it includes this rousing, strutting new single. Roberts is a take-charge lady who can deliver a tempo tune like nobody’s business.

Whiskey Jam Pulls Up Stakes To Head To Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row
/by Lorie HollabaughWhiskey Jam, Nashville’s weekly original music series that has hosted over 875 live shows and thousands of performances, is moving to the heart of downtown Nashville at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row at 400 Broadway this month.
From its humble plywood stage in a bar just off of Nashville’s Music Row, the show has been a home for the artist and songwriting community for nearly 13 years, hosting shows by then-emerging artists including Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Old Dominion, Sam Hunt, Morgan Wallen and Bentley. Beginning Sept. 18, Whiskey Jam’s regular Monday and Thursday events will take place at the new location.
“Whiskey Row is the perfect new home for Whiskey Jam,” says Ward Guenther, Whiskey Jam Founder. “Their commitment to quality and variety aligns with our own values, allowing us to provide a truly unique experience for artists & fans alike. The downtown area has always been the epicenter of our city when it comes to energy, excitement, and most importantly, music. So we’re honored to bring our event into the heart of Nashville.”
“When we started construction on Whiskey Row seven years ago, my first call was to Ward because I knew he would be able to help us establish a music program that’s representative of the most authentic parts of Nashville, which was really important to me,” shares Bentley. “This feels like a natural evolution in our relationship. I’m proud to know that my bar will be home base for artists and fans who want to hear original music of all kinds.”
Whiskey Jam’s 10th anniversary celebration sold out the Ryman Auditorium without announcing a single performer, and the event’s early support of today’s superstars has led to collaborations this year with Combs to provide the “Whiskey Jam x Bootlegger” Tailgate Party at all of his North American stadium shows. Whiskey Jam also presented the opening slots on Old Dominion’s “No Bad Vibes” Tour, which featured up-and-comers like Frank Ray, Kassi Ashton and Greylan James.
Jim Lauderdale Teams Up With The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys For New Project
/by Lorie HollabaughJim Lauderdale and The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys are set to release The Long And Lonesome Letting Go, a new 12-song bluegrass LP on Sept. 15.
The project includes all-new Lauderdale co-writes, with half of the tracks penned with the band’s guitarist Josh Rinkel. Other co-writers contributing to the collection include Becky Buller, Joe Newberry, Jimmy Ritchey, Logan Ledger and Alex Leach.
Lauderdale and The Po Ramblin’ Boys have shared the album’s lead-off track, “Long And Lonesome Letting Go,” a co-write with multi-instrumentalist, Bob Minner. Also joining the already-stacked lineup is Bluegrass Hall of Famer Del McCoury.
“I felt like that song ought to kick off the record, and somebody in Po’ Ramblin’ Boys said, ‘You know, Del would sound great on this,'” says Lauderdale. “Of course! So we reached out and luckily he was available. It didn’t feel right to just have him on the chorus, so he and I switch off a few lines in the verses. I’d never gotten to record with Del before, so that was a real treat.”
Lauderdale and The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys will head to this year’s IBMA World Of Bluegrass conference in Raleigh, North Carolina in late September, performing The Long And Lonesome Letting Go tunes as well as separate sets of their own original songs.
The Long And Lonesome Letting Go Track Listing:
1. “Long And Lonesome Letting Go”
2. “She’s On A Different Train”
3. “I’m Only So Good At Being Good”
4. “You Fell Off The Face Of The Earth”
5. “Last Resort”
6. “Ghost Of A Rose”
7. “Darkness Is The Other Side of Light”
8. “If I Could Only Get My Heart To See”
9. “That Was When We Were Together”
10. “A Better Place”
11. “She’s The Light”
12. “Drop The Hammer Down”

Lauren Daigle, KultureCity Establish Sensory Rooms In ‘Kaleidoscope Tour’ Venues
/by Caela GriffinLauren Daigle
Lauren Daigle has continued her partnership with KultureCity to create and renovate 17 sensory rooms at venue stops on her “The Kaleidoscope Tour,” including 15 new rooms.
Specifically designed by medical professionals, the renovated or refurbished spaces provide dedicated environments for individuals in need of a quieter and more secure environment from which to enjoy concert and sporting events. The rooms are scheduled to be completed by the time Daigle’s tour kicks off on Sept. 6.
Each sensory room will be outfitted with bean bags from Yogibo, visual light panels by Nanoleaf, activity panels, Sparkle Interactive Light by NunoErin, bubble walls and a custom tactile artwork created by an artist on the autism spectrum. In addition, sensory bags will be available at all tour stops for those who might need them.
“The amazing thing about playing live is that feeling I get when I’m looking out from the stage seeing people connect to the music—and to each other,” shares Daigle. “These sensory rooms we’re creating with KultureCity, are all about giving everyone that experience. For me, that’s what touring is all about.
Daigle’s partnership with KultureCity began in 2021, when together they created the The Lauren Daigle Sensory Room at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. The room was sponsored by Daigle’s own The Price Fund, as are all of the rooms being created for this effort. Since 2019, KultureCity has created over 1,900 sensory-inclusive venues in seven countries and has been recognized nationwide for using its resources to revolutionize and affect change in the community for those with sensory needs, not just those with autism.
“Music is something that we associate with and to know that Lauren and her team are going the extra mile to ensure that everyone, no matter their ability, is included at a concert is truly amazing,” says Uma Srivastava, Executive Director, KultureCity. “We’re honored to partner with Lauren to provide a truly inclusive experience for all fans and guests!”
“The Kaleidoscope Tour,” which kicks off on Sept. 6 in Memphis, Tennessee includes stops in Los Angeles, Newark, Boston, Atlanta, Seattle and Baton Rouge. Before its conclusion in the U.S., the tour will have seen 30 stops before heading overseas with Brandon Lake, Crowder, Josh Garrels and Victory Boyd appearing on select dates.
Daigle is set to release the remainder of her self-titled album on Sept. 8 via Atlantic Records, in partnership with Centricity Music.
