Although he insists that Lady Antebellum isn’t splitting up, singer Charles Kelley is about to go solo. He performed six songs from an upcoming project last night (Sept. 30) at Skyville Studio in Nashville.

Paul Worley produced the project, which has not yet been officially titled. An EP is expected in the first quarter of 2016. Kelley indicated that he’d like to do a club tour behind the new music in the fall and winter. His lead single, “The Driver,” chronicles the life of a traveling musician. The track features special guests Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay. Both singers made a special appearance at the end of the set.

The song is available at all digital and streaming partner. The single goes for adds at country radio on Oct. 19.

“Lady Antebellum will never break up – mark my words,” Kelley stated from the Skyville stage. “I just wanted to get out of my comfort zone.” He added that he had the blessing of his Lady A bandmates, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott. Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride were also spotted in the crowd.

Kelley said he didn’t care about who wrote the songs, so he ended up with a mix of originals and covers. One of the selections was “Southern Accent,” a Tom Petty tune re-worked with a country sound. He mentioned that Stevie Nicks would be providing harmony vocals on the song.

DISClaimer: Brantley Gilbert’s Latest Hit ‘Potent and Believable’

Brantley Gilbert

Brantley Gilbert

Most of these folks are rocking their way into the fall season.

Aaron Watson, Lauren Alaina, The Band Perry, Jason Aldean, Deeann Dominy and Dianna Corcoran are all bringing forth uptempo tunes this week.

But bucking the trend and despite competition from bigger stars, it’s Brantley Gilbert who rides away with the Disc of the Day prize.

Texan Deeann Dominy and Oklahoma’s James Robert Webb duked it out for this week’s DisCovery Award. The Texas diva takes it home.

Deeann Dominy

Deeann Dominy

DEEANN DOMINY/This Train Is Leaving
Writers: Deeann Dominy/Jack Harris; Producer: Anson Funderbrugh; Publisher: none listed; ASCAP/BMI; DD (track)
-This former DisCovery Award winner is back and sounding better than ever. Her raspy, blue-eyed soul voice remains truly gripping. The bass groove on this bluesy country rocker rumbles righteously, and her electric guitarist totally gets on board. Essential listening.

STONEY LARUE/Us Time
Writers: Stoney LaRue/Dean Dillon; Producers: R.S. Field/Van Fletcher; Publishers: Tiltawhirl/ACBM/Sixteen Stars/Tenorado, BMI/ASCAP; eOne (track)
-The title track of Stoney’s latest is a slow romantic ballad with a dreamy, gentle atmosphere and a softly winning vocal. Elsewhere on the CD, he gives us fine revivals of Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman,” Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic,” Willie Nelson’s “Seven Spanish Angels” and Gary Stewart’s “Empty Glass.” I remain a fan.

DIANNA CORCORAN/God Did Good
Writers: Dianna Corcoran/Jeff Cohen/Kristian Bush; Producer: Dianna Corcoran; Publishers: Tenyar/Silent Gate/As You Wish/Songs of the Architect, BMI; Krlan
-This Aussie chanteuse is already an award winner in her native land. Her U.S. debut is a sprightly, bright bopper with slamming Shania-style percussion and a personable, penetrating country-soprano vocal. Well done.

SAM HUNT/Break Up in a Small Town
Writers: Sam Hunt/Zach Crowell/Shane McAnally; Producers: Crowell/McAnally; Publishers: Universal/Three Mules/External Combustion/Who Wants To Buy My Pub/Atlas/Songs of Southside Independent/I Love Pizza/Smack Ink, ASCAP; MCA (CDX)
-This rocketing rookie again combines conversational spoken passages with sung choruses. Hip-hoppy, yet unmistakably country, because the subject matter is heartbreak. Another winner.

LAUREN ALAINA/Next Boyfriend
Writers:Lauren Alaina/Emily Weissband/Matt McVaney; Producer: busbee; Publishers: Warner-Tamerlane/Lylas/WB/Thankful For This/A Frank/Song House/Kobalt, ASCAP/BMI; Mercury/19
-Cleverly written and cut with peppy personality.

AARON WATSON/Getaway Truck
Writer: Aaron Watson; Producers: Keith Stegall/Aaron Watson; Publisher: Tunes From HTK, BMI; Thirty Tigers/Big (CDX)
-A toe tapper with twang. He’s inviting her to escape onto the open road of romance. If you’re looking for tempo on your playlist, look no further.

THE BAND PERRY/Live Forever
Writers: RedOne, T.I Jakke, Kimberly Perry, Reid Perry, Neil Perry, Jenna Andrews and Karl-Ola Kjellholm; Producers: RedOne/Dann Huff; Publishers: Sony ATV / Songs of RedOne/ Songs by Team Red / Lionheart Music Group/ Sony/ATV Countryside/Pearlfeather Publishing/Sony/ATV Countryside/When I Go to the Moon Music/Sony/ATV Countryside/Famdamily Music; BMI/SESAC; Republic Nashville (ERG)
-It has a big-sounding, beefy, burly pop track, almost Queen-like at times. The siblings’ harmonies and vocal interplay are more vivid than ever. It’s a crazy-quilt of various textures and sounds, but it works in a chesty, anthemic kind of way.

JASON ALDEAN/Gonna Know We Were Here
Writers: none listed; Producer: none listed; Publishers: none listed; Broken Bow (ERG)
-They’re going crazy as young folks on a rampage. Together, they plan wild times with burning ambition. Guitars scream along.

BRANTLEY GILBERT/Stone Cold Sober
Writers: Brantley Gilbert, Brett James, Dan Layus; Producer: Dann Huff; Publishers: Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. / Indiana Angel Music/External Combustion Music / WB Music Corp. / Songs Of Brett / Atlas Music Publishing/ Yawyer Three Music; ASCAP/BMI; Valory (ERG)
-I think this guy has the coolest singing voice. Here, he rides atop a throbbing electronic track as he asks for a little mercy and forgiveness in hushed, husky tones. Potent and believable.

JAMES ROBERT WEBB/Makin’ Love Tonight
Writers: none listed; Producers: none listed; Publishers: none listed; Bison Creek
-Earnest sounding. He doesn’t set off any explosions as a singer, but he has a solid, journeyman, countryboy delivery. Why fight when we could be loving, he asks. The country rocking instrumental support is super tasty.

Arrangements are pending.

It has been a true pleasure to have worked with her for more than three years, and she was a vital part of my team. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and all those who knew and loved her. In recent weeks, Sharon organized a team of ‘Southern Belles’ to participate in tomorrow’s St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer in Nashville. The team has raised more than $3,500 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital thus far. I know every single person on that team will be dedicating their walk to Sharon tomorrow. She was a tireless supporter of St. Jude, as well as all the artists she has worked with through the years. Thank you Sharon for your belief in me. You will be deeply missed by the McCreery family and team.”

Brad Paisley expressed condolences about his team member via twitter:

Brad and the entire Paisley family, friends, fans and team are devastated by the loss of our friend and team member Sharon Eaves who passed away this morning. Please pray for her family and friends. Further details will be forthcoming. -TeamBP

Bryan White posted his remarks via Facebook regarding her passing:

I’ve been trying to process the weekend with a heavy heart and much perplexity so forgive me for my delay. It’s been difficult… My dear friend and manager Sharon Eaves passed away unexpectedly Friday morning. I am still in shock. It doesn’t seem possible.

Sharon has been one of my closest friends for over 20 years. Sharon has manned my fan club ship since day one. She has been my manager for at least a decade. Sharon was my biggest supporter within the music industry. I always told people she was my “music biz” mom and the “Angel in my corner.” Sharon believed in me always. She was a mama bear when it came to looking out for me. We spent almost everyday on the phone and we always told each other “I love you” before we hung up. We spent countless hours together in rental cars. Now those were some of my favorite memories. We always laughed. I loved making her laugh because she was always so serious. It was always secretly my plan; What can I say to break her out biz mode?

She was the ‘Idiom Queen.’ I knew in every meeting we had together she would work one in. Like this one, which was my favorite: She’d say, “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” I’d always laugh and make her break that one down because I never quite understood it. I have to be spoon fed. The other one I loved, and this one I had no trouble with was, “It beats a sharp stick in the eye!” I especially loved that one. She was an amazing soul. Always out for everybody else’s best interest. She gave of herself to no end. I think she took care of everyone else but herself. Her wings always got in the way.

All week we had been in conversation through conference calls and emails putting together my first tour in the Philippines. She was so excited at what is happening there and how we are finally going. We had a great conversation Thursday night. Once again, we went in and out of laughing and being serious. She was so excited that they have fallen in love with one of my songs (God Gave Me You). We hung up. That was the last time I would speak to my sweet friend. It’s still not reality. Life is a little like riding a roller coaster backwards. You feel it but you can’t see what’s up ahead. I will honor her in everything I do. I’ll never forget Sharon. I know she’s riding on the clouds and now God is taking care of Her and she’s not worrying about everybody down here. But heaven will be a little more in order because Sharon’s taking care of everybody up there. Until I see you again. I will painfully miss you. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Your son, Bryan

Richard C. Shadyac Jr., CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude, released the following statement:

Sharon was a passionate and dedicated long-time volunteer for St. Jude. She served as a Country Cares for St. Jude Kids advisory board member and made innumerable contributions that benefited the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. We send our deepest condolences to her loved ones. – Rick Shadyac

A celebration of life for Fan Clubhouse CEO Sharon Eaves has been set for Oct. 14 at City Winery in Nashville, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

Warner/Chappell Music, THiS Music Extend Deal With Ben Hayslip

Ben Hayslip

Ben Hayslip

Warner/Chappell Music (WCM), the global music publishing arm of Warner Music Group, along with Nashville-based music publishing company THiS Music, today announced that they have extended their worldwide co-publishing agreement with hit songwriter Ben Hayslip. Hayslip has twice been named ASCAP’s “Country Music Songwriter of the Year,” and twice been honored with the ASCAP Award for “Country Song of the Year” for Blake Shelton’s “Honey Bee” and Thomas Rhett’s “It Goes Like This.” Hayslip also wrote both George Strait’s and Dustin Lynch’s newly released singles.

“Over the years, I’ve built tremendous relationships with the teams at Warner/Chappell and THiS Music, and we’ve accomplished a lot together,” said Hayslip. “Support like theirs is invaluable and I look forward to working with them for many more years.”

“Ben Hayslip is one of the most driven songwriters I’ve ever had the opportunity of working with,” said Ben Vaughn, Executive Vice President, Warner/Chappell Music Nashville. “He was recently up for a single on a project, but the label decided to go another direction. Ben’s response was, ‘I’ll make my next song so undeniably good that they’ll have no choice but to put the song out.’ That attitude is exactly why he’s so successful. It’s such a pleasure to collaborate with him and the professionals at THiS Music”

“Ben’s desire for success is only outmatched by his unstoppable work ethic. He’s been on our team from day one and it’s an honor to continue to represent a man of his character and ability,” said Rusty Gaston, Partner/GM, THiS Music.

Hayslip has had his songs recorded by such renowned artists as Tim McGraw, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, Blake Shelton, Chris Young, Jake Owen, Martina McBride and Willie Nelson, among many others. Hayslip’s No. 1 hits include: Joe Nichols’ “Gimmie That Girl,” Josh Turner’s “All Over Me,” Blake Shelton’s “All About Tonight” and “Honey Bee,” Luke Bryan’s “I Don’t Want This Night to End,” Jason Aldean’s “The Only Way I Know” and “When She Says Baby,” Thomas Rhett’s “It Goes Like This,” Jake Owen’s “Anywhere With You,” and Justin Moore’s “Point At You.”

THiS Music was formed in 2006 by General Manager, Rusty Gaston and songwriters Tim Nichols and Connie Harrington, and launched in partnership with Warner/Chappell Music.
