Florida Georgia Line Announce Fourth Album: Can’t Say I Ain’t Country
/by LB CantrellNewly-minted Grammy-nominees Florida Georgia Line have announced their fourth studio album, Can’t Say I Ain’t Country, will be released on Feb. 15 on BMLG Records. Additional details about Can’t Say I Ain’t Country, including its track listing and cover artwork, will be revealed soon.
“We’re excited. In February, we’re releasing our fourth album,” FGL’s Tyler Hubbard said. “I think Feb. 15 is the official date, so we’re really excited. We’ve been working on that album for over a year now, so BK and I are definitely ready.”
FGL’s Brian Kelley said, “You can say a lot of things. You can call somebody a lot of different names and have a lot of different opinions, but at the end of the day, when it comes to me and Tyler, you can’t say we ain’t country.”
After earning their first Grammy nomination for “Meant to Be” in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category, the duo continue to be celebrated, as Mayor Carolyn Goodman will declare today (Dec. 11) “Florida Georgia Line Day” in Las Vegas at City Hall.
Brantley Gilbert, Lindsay Ell Lament Love That Won’t Die On New ‘Small Town’ Duet
/by Lorie HollabaughBrantley Gilbert and Lindsay Ell have joined forces on a brand new duet, “What Happens In A Small Town,” about the fury of a stubborn love and its unrelenting memories. The tune, written by Gilbert, Brock Berryhill, Josh Dunne and Rhett Akins, was produced by Dann Huff and features Ell on guitar.
“It was great that they wanted me to play,” Ell said. “To be part of a song like this is great, but to be asked to play on someone’s song who I respect so much takes it up another level. Obviously playing in front of Dann Huff is something else, but he knew how to really push me to get a vocal that contains everything situations like this one are made of. Music, especially music that rocks this hard, crashes through pride, ego and whatever else is in the way. Being able to play on this opened up the feelings to me. When I went in to do the vocal, it was all about really channeling that pain.”
“This song builds and burns,” Gilbert said. “It really has that want for someone you can’t have, and having to live in all the places they are. I wanted to have someone on the record who could match those feelings, to really push the song. It’s not just any female singer who makes sense, and we knew that. Lindsay is a whole other kind of artist, and she understands that power.”
For Gilbert, the song definitely has a ring of truth to it as he went through a breakup and eventually a reconciliation with his now wife, Amber.
“Songs that come from your life just have another kind of power,” Gilbert said. “People can hear the difference, and they know. For this song, obviously I’m not the only guy–or girl–who’s been there, but I’m lucky and blessed enough to have been able to put it back together.”
“What Happens In A Small Town” arrives at radio December 14.

Toby Keith is closing out the year in an epic way, as he recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of his classic single “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” and the re-release of his debut album at a special party at BMI on December 5. The same week he also performed twice on the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman on December 7, and then received the prestigious Harmony Award from the Nashville Symphony the following night.
Last week, Keith released a new song, “Don’t Let The Old Man In,” which is featured during the final scene and closing credits of Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film The Mule. The story tells the tale of an older man who becomes an unwitting drug courier, and the song was inspired by a conversation Keith had with Eastwood during his golf tournament in Carmel, CA, where the two shared a cart. The busy month follows the release of Toby Keith – Should’ve Been A Cowboy [25th Anniversary Edition], which celebrates Keith’s debut album that spawned four hit singles including his No. 1 debut “Should’ve Been A Cowboy.”

CRS To Host Panel Exploring Relationships Between Parents, Teens And Country Music
/by Lorie HollabaughThe “Parents, Teens, and Country Music” panel, presented by Edison Research, will combine a survey of country listeners who have teenagers at home, a survey of teens, and footage from the in-person interviews that have become a highlight of Edison’s CRS presentations. Both groups will be asked about their musical tastes, media usage, and how that usage takes hold with an eye on how parents and teens influence each other.
“This presentation will allow CRS attendees to understand better the lives of people currently in their demographic target while allowing a peek into those of the crucial next generation of country fans,” says Edison Research president Larry Rosin. “There will be practical advice both for connecting with the parents, and cultivating the younger group for the future.”
Kevin Welch At Top Spot Followed By Gorley, McAnally And Osborne On MusicRow Top Songwriter Chart
/by LB CantrellKevin Welch has been No. 1 on the MusicRow Top Songwriter Chart for an impressive 6 weeks. Even more impressive, he sits at the top from the leverage of only one 16-year-old song. His independently-written “Millionaire,” which earned its performer Chris Stapleton a Grammy nomination last week, has kept Welch on top, personifying the value of a solo write.
“Co-writing is a time honored tradition in Nashville,” Welch said. “A lot of my best songs are co-writes, and usually my co-writer wrote the best parts. But I’ve always believed that it’s not healthy to only co-write. Sometimes its a good idea to just sit there by yourself and dig, because a lot of the good stuff is buried deep. ”
Kevin Welch
Ashley Gorley moves in No. 2 this week, Shane McAnally into No. 3 and Josh Osborne to No. 4. On a bleaker note, there is not a female songwriter until No. 38 this week with Jessi Alexander.
The weekly MusicRow Top Songwriter Chart, published every week, uses algorithms based upon song activity according to airplay, digital downloaded track sales and streams. This unique and exclusive recent addition to the MusicRow portfolio is the only songwriter chart of its kind.
