Soundstripe Launches New Mobile App

Soundstripe has officially rolled out its new mobile app, enabling creators to discover, save, stream and download unlimited music from the company’s catalog while on the go. The app is currently available for iOS in the App Store and will release for Android on Google Play in the coming months.

The Soundstripe app is designed for ease-of-use, with a simple interface for exploring its diverse catalog featuring thousands of high-quality tracks across dozens of genres, all of which are clear for unlimited use on any platform, from YouTube to TikTok to broadcast and film.

“We started Soundstripe with the goal of providing the world’s best royalty-free music catalog that was super easy for creators to use,” said Travis Terrell, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Soundstripe. “The new Soundstripe mobile app is a big step forward with that vision, as creators can now access many of the same features they love with Soundstripe’s web experience in a native mobile app, while being able to stream, save, and share Soundstripe songs and playlists on their device, boosting their productivity while away from their computers.”

Users can simultaneously search and filter songs by mood, characteristic, genre, instrument, energy, and more. They can also browse playlists that match their search criteria. The app also features a scrollable waveform that speeds up the process of examining a song’s sonic characteristics, a feature that will help creators save time searching for the right track. Additionally, users can favorite tracks, create and manage playlists, download music to their device, and easily share songs with others.

Gregg Allman 4-LP Vinyl Box Set Slated For September

The legendary live concert event paying tribute to the legacy of Gregg Allman, All My Friends: Celebrating the Songs & Voice of Gregg Allman, is now available on vinyl. The four-LP box set will be released on Sept. 30, with a number of limited-edition color variants available.

On Jan. 10, 2014, an all-star lineup of rock, blues and country musicians joined at Atlanta’s historic Fox Theatre to pay tribute to the life and music of Allman. Allman was joined onstage by an array of artists performing classics from his 40-plus years as a recording artist, encompassing his landmark work with the legendary Allman Brothers Band, as well as his solo career.

The slate of performers included Trace Adkins, Zac Brown, Jackson Browne, Eric Church, Dr. John, Brantley Gilbert, Vince Gill, Jimmy Hall, John Hiatt, Martina McBride, Taj Mahal, Pat Monahan, Keb’ Mo’, Sam Moore, Robert Randolph, and Widespread Panic.  With musical direction by producer Don Was, several guest performers were also drawn from the Allman Brothers Band’s extended musical family, including Devon Allman, Warren Haynes, Jaimoe, Chuck Leavell, Jack Pearson, Susan Tedeschi, and Derek Trucks. 

“The All My Friends tribute show was such a classy event,” recalls Devon Allman. “I remember Dad saying ‘Son, aren’t they supposed to have shows like this after you die?’ I laughed and said ‘Well…maybe so …but you get to jam at this one with your friends!’ He was so deeply touched that night by the outpouring of love and music in his honor. A highlight of his career, for sure.”

Rounder and Blackbird Presents are teaming up with Mandolin to exclusively stream the concert in its entirety on Aug. 18. Fans who pre-order the vinyl box will receive a complimentary viewing code. Tickets for the livestream can be purchased here.

Allman, who died in 2017, would have celebrated his 75th birthday this December. A number of events to commemorate the anniversary of his birth will be announced in the coming months.

Memorial Set For Singer / Philanthropist Saundra Steele

A celebration of the life of Nashville singer Saundra Steele will be held on Friday (July 29) at the Belle Meade Country Club.

Steele died on May 30 at age 72 following a battle with ovarian cancer. She was noted as a major-label recording artist, a touring backup vocalist, a prolific demo singer, a Nashville nightclub headliner, an avant-garde art patron, a philanthropist and a designer.

Born Saundra Joyce Rucker in 1949, she was a child and teen entertainer in West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and other mid-Atlantic states at fairs and festivals. She became a three-time “Star of Tomorrow” winner on Atlantic City’s Steel Pier and performed on Ted Mack’s Original Amateur Hour on CBS-TV.

She moved to Music City in 1967 at age 18. During the 1970s and 1980s, Steele recorded as a pop and/or country vocalist for the labels Royal American, Monument, United Artists and EMI. Her one prominent album was Saundra Steele, released on UA in 1980.

She married prominent Nashville businessman William Alexander Steele III in 1975. They became stewards of “Owl’s Hill,” a Williamson County modern-architecture mansion, grounds and nature sanctuary.

In the music business, Saundra Steele toured as a backup singer for George Jones, Johnny Rodriguez, Ronnie Milsap, Johnny Tillotson, Boots Randolph and the Stamps Quartet. She also became a Music Row demo singer.

She worked in the studio with Garth Fundis, Ralph Murphy, Allen Reynolds, Roger Cook, Bobby Wood and her longtime musical partner, steel guitarist Lloyd Green. As an entertainer, Steele developed local popularity as a performer in such Printers Alley nightspots as the Western Room and Carousel.

Coinciding with her residency at Owl’s Hill, she became a collector of avant-garde artwork. She designed decor for the Symphony Ball, co-chaired the inaugural Opera Gala at the War Memorial and worked on the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon.

Saundra Steele is survived by her daughters Britt Genevieve and Olivia Ruth Steele, by her granddaughter and by three siblings.

Her ashes will be interred alongside her husband in the Steele family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Franklin, as well as in the Rucker family plot in Webbville, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations to Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary, 545 Beech Creek Road South, Brentwood, 37027; Cheekwood, 1200 Forrest Park Drive, Nashville, 37205; and, Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, 37203 are welcome.

“All who loved her are invited to join and share a Saundra story!” is the invitation to Friday’s event. Billed as “a celebration of her whimsical and and extraordinary life,” it will be held on Friday, 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Belle Meade Country Club.

Priscilla Block made her way onto the scene after creating a fanbase on TikTok. After posting snippets of funny and honest tracks such as “Thick Thighs” and “PMS,” Block had her viral moment with the heartbreak anthem, “Just About Over You.” Fans rallied together to independently fund Block’s recording of the track, and its reception led to industry attention. She soon signed a record deal with Mercury Nashville and released her debut album, Welcome to the Block Party. Block has since surpassed more than 385 million digital streams with tracks such as “Just About Over You,” “Wish You Were the Whiskey,” “I Bet You Wanna Know,” and her current single, “My Bar.” Her charm and wit also allowed her the opportunity to host the red carpet programming at the ACM Awards, where she was nominated for New Female Artist of the Year. Block is also nominated for Breakthrough Artist-Writer at this year’s MusicRow Awards for her qualifying song, “Just About Over You.”

Zach Bryan has impacted the country music industry in a nontraditional but massive way. The Oklahoma native began releasing music as an active-duty member of the U.S. Navy stationed in Washington state. After making an impact with “Heading South” in 2019, his music caught the attention of Yellowstone creators, leading to multiple sync placements in the hit show. After being honorably discharged by the Navy after eight years of service to pursue his career in music, Bryan signed to Warner Records. He released his debut album American Heartbreak to unfathomable acclaim. The massive 34-song project broke the 2022 record for the most-streamed country album in a single day on Spotify and Apple Music. Bryan’s single from American Heartbreak, “Something in the Orange,” peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot Country charts and was No. 18 global streaming track overall. The breakthrough star has already surpassed 1 billion global career streams and is only three years past his very first release.

ERNEST has enjoyed massive success as a songwriter in the past few years, having written five No. 1 hits for artists such as Morgan Wallen, Chris Lane, Sam Hunt, Florida Georgia Line, and Kane Brown. After releasing a few EPs and singles as an artist, ERNEST broke through with his George Jones-inspired “Flower Shops” featuring Wallen. The song took off, becoming the most-added single on its add week at country radio and hitting No. 1 on MusicRow‘s CountryBreakout Radio Chart. “Flower Shops,” which is also nominated for Song of the Year this year at the MusicRow Awards, also led to the release of ERNEST’s Big Loud Records debut album Flower Shops (The Album). ERNEST is out building his fanbase on the road with other fan favorites from the album such as “Some Other Bar,” “Tennessee Queen,” and “Feet Wanna Run.”

Ryan Hurd got his start in Nashville as a songwriter, penning Platinum hits and chart toppers for Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Lady A, Tim McGraw, and more. As an artist Hurd has released a series of EPs and singles, including the Platinum-certified “To a T.” His breakthrough as artist was cemented with his debut album from Arista Nashville, Pelago. The 15-track project contained “Chasing After You,” a duet with his wife Maren Morris that hit the top of the charts, was certified Platinum, and secured him his first Grammy nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. He’s following it up with his new single “Pass It On,” which was one of the most-added singles at country radio on add week. As a songwriter, Hurd is also up for the Song of the Year title at this year’s MusicRow Awards for Morris’ “Circles Around This Town,” which he co-wrote with her, Jimmy Robbins, and Julia Michaels.

Elvie Shane captured hearts with “My Boy,” a special tribute to his step-son and non-traditional families like his. The track quickly caught fire on TikTok, leading BBR Music Group to sign him to Wheelhouse Records. Now aligned with a label partner, Shane took “My Boy” to No. 1. The now Platinum-certified track was nominated for Song of the Year at last year’s MusicRow Awards. Following the success of “My Boy,” Shane released his debut EP, County Roads, and quickly followed it up with his debut album Backslider. His new single “County Roads,” was one of the most added songs at country radio upon its debut and continues to climb. Shane is also nominated for Breakthrough Artist-Writer of the Year this year at the MusicRow Awards as a co-writer on “My Boy.”

Lainey Wilson has become an industry favorite in the last year, having been named the Discovery Artist of the Year at the 2021 MusicRow Awards and then New Female Artist of the Year at the 2022 ACM Awards. She brought her signature “Bell Bottom Country” to her studio album Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’ in early 2021 via Broken Bow Records. The project spawned her first hit, the tentative “Things A Man Oughta Know.” The tune took off, hitting the top of the charts, being certified Platinum, and winning Song of the Year at the 2022 ACM Awards. In early 2022, Wilson rang the bell at the top of the charts again, this time alongside Cole Swindell for their fiery duet, “Never Say Never.” In June, it was announced that Wilson would join the cast of season five of the hit show Yellowstone. As a co-writer on “Things A Man Oughta Know,” Wilson is also nominated for Breakthrough Artist-Writer of the Year at the MusicRow Awards this year.

BMI Renews Agreement With C3 Presents For Stages At Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza

BMI has renewed its long-term partnership with C3 Presents, one of the world’s largest music festival producers. The multi-year agreement solidifies BMI as the only performing rights organization with stages at the Austin City Limits Music Festival and Lollapalooza.

“BMI’s relationship with C3 is one of our most rewarding and long-standing partnerships,” explains Mason Hunter, AVP, Creative, Nashville. “Together, we have created a unique festival experience for fans and artists alike. We’re thrilled that C3 continues to recognize our ability to bring up-and-coming talent to their stages and look forward to a long-lasting partnership.”

In partnership with C3 Presents, BMI has used its stages to showcase artists such as Lady Gaga, Halsey and Chance the Rapper, who all made their Lollapalooza debut on the BMI stage before they were household names.

Matthew West Achieves Fourth Consecutive No. 1 With ‘Me on Your Mind’

Matthew West has topped both the Billboard Christian Airplay chart and Mediabase Christian AC chart with “Me On Your Mind,” his 25th No. 1 (12th as an artist and 13th as a songwriter). West is set to release a duet version of the track featuring Anne Wilson on Aug. 12.

The poignant track, penned by West with Jeff Pardo and Anne Wilson, has garnered over 12 million streams and follows his other chart-toppers “What If,” “The God Who Stays,” and “Truth Be Told.”

“I woke up to the news that ‘Me on Your Mind’ is No. 1 and I’m completely blown away,” shares West. “I am thankful for an amazing team at Provident Label Group, and specifically to Jeff Cruz, Charles Van Dyke and the amazing radio team who have championed one song after another and carried them to our radio friends across the country.”

He continues, “I remember telling my wife the idea of this song about how God has us on his mind while we were on a walk one day. I was looking ahead as we walked down the road and didn’t hear much of a response from her. But when I turned to look at her, she had tears in her eyes and quietly said, ‘You need to write that song.'” He adds, “It was a rare moment when I could tell a song was going to be special even before it was finished. It’s exciting to see the song resonate in a similar way with so many people and I hope all who hear it will be powerfully reminded that no one is just a face in the crowd. We are known, seen, listened to, and loved by the God of all grace.”

On Aug. 21, the reigning K-Love Fan Awards Male Artist of the Year will bring his headlining show, “A Night of Worship at the Mother Church with Matthew West and Friends,” to Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

He’s also set to take the stage at the Nashville Songwriter Awards on Sept. 20 performing alongside Thomas Rhett, Walker Hayes, Babyface and more. The five-time Grammy-nominated artist will release his sixth book, The God Who Stays, on Sept. 6.

Nikki Lane To Launch Headline Tour Ahead Of New Album Release

Nikki Lane is set to release her new album, Denim & Diamonds, on Sept. 23 via New West Records. She has shared two tracks from the new project,“Black Widow” and “First High,” available everywhere now.

Denim & Diamonds came from a moment of careful consideration in Lane’s career when the pandemic forced everyone inside and she realized it was time to find inspiration somewhere new. Lane enlisted Queens of the Stone Age frontman Joshua Homme to help her bring the album to life, incorporating Lane’s wide-ranging influences, from The 13th Floor Elevators to traditional country stalwarts like Loretta Lynn.

The project takes stock of Lane’s first decade as a songwriter as she traces her origin story from her religious youth in South Carolina to Nashville Rebel.

Lane has released three albums–her 2011 debut Walk of Shame, 2014’s All or Nothin,’ and Highway Queen from 2017. Along with releasing new music and touring, she was featured on “Breaking Up Slowly” from Lana Del Rey’s 2021 album Chemtrails Over the Country Club and contributed to Spiritualized’s Everything Was Beautiful.

Bill Anderson & Dolly Parton Team Up For Newest Music Video

Bill Anderson and Dolly Parton have teamed up for a special music video for their duet “Someday It’ll All Make Sense.” The track was originally featured on Anderson’s 2016 compilation project, As Far As I Can See: The Best Of.

The two country legends, Anderson’s publicists and management, and Parton’s manager were on hand with the video’s director, Trea Fanjoy, during the shoot earlier this week.

“Working with my ol’ buddy Bill Anderson was the most meaningful fun I’ve had in years,” shared Parton. “I love the song we sang, I love how we sounded together on it and getting to do a video with him was just icing on the cake. I hope the fans enjoy it as much as we enjoyed being together on it.”

 

Brooke Eden Visits Girls Inc. As Part Of Music Matters Campaign

Earlier this month, Brooke Eden participated in her second Music Matters with RIAA event as she visited with campers at Girls Inc. at YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee. During her visit, she performed music from her upcoming EP, Choosing You, shared how music inspired her to be her true self, and encouraged campers to share their stories and what songs have inspired them.

“Girls Inc. is a safe, girl-powered environment where we encourage our students to value themselves and discover their strengths,” explains Vanessa Helbig Johnson, Executive Director of Girls Inc. “Partnerships like these give us the opportunity to connect with our girls and show them that there are many avenues of self-discovery and expression. Brooke’s story and leadership created a safe and brave space for our girls’ confidence to grow so they can chase their dreams for the future.”

Prescription Songs Elevates Christian Conant To A&R Manager

Prescription Songs has promoted Christian Conant to A&R Manager. Conant is based out of the company’s Nashville office and looks after a diverse roster of artists, songwriters and producers, including Maddie Zahm, Fly By Midnight, Joy Oladokun, Matt Koziol, Lauren LaRue, Nick Bailey, Kyle Stemberger, and more.

Conant moved to Nashville in 2015 after finishing high school in Akron, Ohio. He got his start working in digital marketing before going on the road managing various artists’ tours, including Mitchell Tenpenny and The Band Camino. He later spent time in the publishing/A&R department of Riser House Entertainment before eventually landing at Prescription Songs in September 2019.

“Christian has been working hard since the day he joined our team as an A&R coordinator,” shares Katie Fagan, Head of A&R Nashville. “He has a great ear for great songs and his diverse taste in music has been a perfect addition to our A&R team. The writers love him and so does the Nashville community. He’s always been a team player and I’m excited for this next chapter in his career—it’s well deserved.”

Morris Higham, City National Bank Host Songs For A Cause, Raise Over $2K For CMHOF

Morris Higham Management and City National Bank partnered to host Songs for a Cause at the Bluebird Cafe last Friday (July 22). The evening benefitted the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and raised more than $2,000 for the museum’s educational programs.

Songwriters on hand for the night’s festivities included Marla Cannon-Goodman, Johnny Dailey, Hunter Phelps and Trent Willmon.

Aaron Watson Returns To The Road Following Vocal Rest Hiatus

Aaron Watson is returning to the road following a period of vocal rest due to a granuloma in his throat that left him unable to sing and sidelined from touring since mid-April.

In over 20 years, Watson has never before been forced to cancel a string of shows, but he persevered in the face of adversity as this occurred during the release of his latest album, Unwanted Man.

“It was definitely a frustrating and scary time, especially in the beginning not knowing what was going on with my voice, but that something was definitely wrong,” Watson shares. “I’m so grateful to have had the best care and prayers from the best fans to get me through these past few months.”

He adds, “I’m really excited to be back out on the road, playing music with the band and seeing all the fans. It feels really great to be on stage again and I’m looking forward to all the dates we have coming up performing across the country.”
