Secretly Distribution & Third Man Records Announce Global Distribution Deal

Jack White‘s Third Man Records has entered into a new worldwide distribution deal with Secretly Distribution.

Secretly Distribution will now handle physical and digital music distribution, digital and retail marketing, and technological support for all of Third Man Records’ upcoming releases. The just-announced new albums from Snõõper and The Belair Lip Bombs will be Third Man’s first new releases through Secretly.

KC Bruner Inks With Electric Feel

KC Bruner has inked with Electric Feel.

An Iowa native, Bruner has built a devoted following on TikTok and earned a spot on the cover of Spotify’s Fresh Finds Country playlist, spotlighting her latest single, “Bigger Fool”. Her previous collaborators include Cooper Alber, Jack Schrepferman, Jesse Bluu, Madison Spratley, Andrew Bolooki and more.

“When I first met the team at EF, I instantly felt at home and knew they were my people. I couldn’t be more excited to share the music I’ve been working on with the world,” says Bruner.

Coleman Jennings Inks With Big Loud Texas & Mercury Records

Coleman Jennings has signed a record deal with Big Loud Texas and Mercury Records.

Jennings combines Western folk, honky tonk, outlaw and Americana into his artistry, while also blending in elements of old time and bluegrass. His music often has whimsy lyrics, swift guitar playing and gritty vocals. Jennings was inspired by roots poet Blaze Foley to reach into country music, igniting his anti-establishment nature.

“I’m so excited to have Coleman Jennings join the Big Loud and Mercury Records families,” says Wes Donehower, SVP of A&R, Big Loud Records and Mercury Records. “Coleman is a special young artist with an old soul and a lot to say. The music he and Dave have made is incredible and we’re looking forward to being a part of his team for years to come.”

His major label debut “Head Spinning” is out today (Sept. 19). The track, solo-penned by him, showcases an emotional rush over the sound of rock. The track is the second song Jennings ever wrote, and was produced by Dave Cobb.

“I was always scared of the whole record deal thing, but Big Loud Texas and Mercury made me feel understood,” shares Jennings. “They are good people who want to serve the artist, and they allowed me the opportunity to make the record I’d always dreamed of with Dave Cobb. The first single, ‘Head Spinning,’ is just the beginning of what I think will be a unique album. Huge thanks to Dave and the whole Big Loud / Mercury Team.”

Jennings performed at AmericanaFest last week as part of Big Loud’s Skydeck takeover. Tonight (Sept. 19) he will join Charles Wesley Godwin at White Oak Music Hall in Houston, followed by shows with Ray Wylie Hubbard and William Clark Green.

For your listening pleasure, we have a reissued blues classic by B.B. King, a disco tune from Dustin Lynch, a revival of a Buddy Holly standard by Joe Ely and a romping rock & roll outing by the Music City blues-rock band Piper & The Hard Times. The last-named is our DISCovery Award winner.

This week’s Disc of the Day also colors outside the lines a bit. It is a masterful tribute to the music of the great Brook Benton by our late country superstar Charley Pride. It is absolutely essential listening.

CHARLEY PRIDE / “Endlessly”

– Tomorrow (Sept. 19) would have been Brook Benton’s 94th birthday. I have long believed that he was an unheralded country hero. The pop-soul baritone recorded two country albums, immortalized Tony Joe White’s “Rainy Night in Georgia” and wrote great songs that were covered by country stars. Benton and/or his co-writer Clyde Otis were responsible for “It’s Just a Matter of Time” (Randy Travis), “The Ties That Bind” (Don Williams). “Endlessly” (Sonny James) and more. The last named is the title tune of a long overdue Brook Benton tribute album. After Charley Pride’s death in 2020, these tapes were found, revealing that the superstar was definitely appreciative of Benton’s talent. His vocal performances on these classics are arguably the finest of his career. Backed by the Dallas Symphony, Pride glides through the lushly melodic “Endlessly” and dips into its bass notes with delight. Every track on this collection is a mini masterpiece. Also check out his stunning version of “The Ties That Bind.” The collection drops tomorrow (Sept. 19).

LORI McKENNA / “Tied to You”

– McKenna holds three Grammys for Best Country Song. Her works have been sung by Taylor Swift, Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert and other greats. She is also a helluva singer, herself. She wrote this about one of her kids moving far away, but it’s an anthem for everyone missing a loved one. The harmony vocal is by singer-songwriter Medium Build. I have such a crush on this woman.

JASON ALDEAN / “How Far Does a Goodbye Go”

– It’s a lovelorn power ballad with some nicely poetic word play. Radio ready.

– This is a Nashville-based blues-rock ensemble. Paced by Piper Green’s gruff, soulful vocal delivery, it kicks up some classic rock & roll dust on the rousing title tune of its new CD. For its ballad skills, check out the nostalgic “Those Days.”

– Tuesday (Sept. 16) marked the 100th birthday of blues titan and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member B.B. King. MCA Records will be celebrating his centennial all year long. The legend’s entire catalog will be reissued on all digital and physical platforms. To kick things off, the label is remastering and reissuing King’s signature 1970 hit. It still sounds awesome.

HANNAH ELLIS / “Officer Down”

– This gentle, heartfelt ballad is about her cousin, a police officer who was killed in the line of duty. Ellis originally issued on an indie label in 2017. Curb has touched it up to mark the 10th anniversary of cousin Daniel’s death. Touching and impactful.

DUSTIN LYNCH & MC4D / “Home to You”

– Interesting. It’s a country vocal on top of a high voltage, electronic-dance-music production. Refreshingly different, I guess.

JOE ELY / “Raining In My Heart”

– Singer-songwriter Joe Ely has been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia and Parkinson’s disease. About 10 years ago, he recorded a batch of tunes solo. Thanks to AI, his tapes have been cleaned up and instrumentation has been added. Ely is from Lubbock, also the hometown of Buddy Holly, so this tribute recording of Holly’s 1959 hit makes perfect sense. Although he can no longer perform, Ely continues to share his music and his heart.

2025 IBMA Momentum & Industry Award Winners Announced

The International Bluegrass Music Association has revealed the 2025 IBMA Momentum Award and Industry Award winners.

The Momentum Awards, which focus on artists and industry professionals who are in the early stages of their bluegrass music careers. were presented at a ceremony last night (Sept. 17) at the Chattanooga Convention Center. The Momentum Awards are part of the five-day IBMA World of Bluegrass, in partnership with Chattanooga Tourism Co. and Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, which runs Sept. 16-20.

Music Fights Fraud Alliance Launches Partner Program

Music Fights Fraud Alliance has launched its Partner Program. Participants will be able to have the opportunity to share knowledge and resources while contributing to MFFA’s projects and anti-fraud initiatives. The program’s inaugural partners are ACRCloud, Trolley, Vobile and Audible Magic. These organizations will work closely with MFFA and its 28 member companies. Partnership is open to any entity within the music industry or adjacent sectors that aligns with MFFA’s mission.

T.J. Martell Foundation Hosts Annual New York Honors Gala

The T.J. Martell Foundation hosted its annual New York Honors Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street. The memorable evening marked the Foundation’s milestone 50th anniversary, raising more than $2.2 million.

The evening debuted the inaugural Circle of Legends award, a new honor recognizing the leaders who have championed the Foundation’s mission. “For 50 years, the music industry’s generosity has fueled lifesaving cancer research,” said Lynn-Anne Huck, CEO of the T.J. Martell Foundation. “Honoring our Circle of Legends reminds us that together, we can turn music’s promise into tomorrow’s cures.”

SONY Music Entertainment’s Executive VP of Business Affairs/general Counsel Julie Swidler, 2024 New York Honors Lifetime Music industry Award recipient and Big Loud Partner/CEO Seth England, President of Frontline Recordings for BMG Americas, Jon Loba and Disturbing the Peace Record’s Chaka Zulu also gave remarks.

To end the night, Rising British artist Sekou took the stage, followed by Jelly Roll.

“I was thinking, I’m more nervous than normal. And I was like, well, I know why. I’m in New York City. I’m at the T.J. Martell gala,” Jelly Roll shared from stage. “It’s a big deal. It’s like, I’m obviously more nervous than normal. And I was like, let me think about other times I’ve been this nervous to perform. I said, probably the most nervous I’ve ever been, and this is a really unique comparison that only y’all will get, but was when I performed very recently at the Vatican for the Pope. And the first time, and this is a comparison only y’all will get. And the first time I got invited to do the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy party. Clive Davis and the Pope. So quite a parallel that can only happen at an event like this, I reckon.”

Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) season kicks off Dec. 4-13 with a star-studded lineup of some of country’s hottest acts.

The 2025 lineup features concerts from Brad Paisley, Gary Allan, Riley Green, The Red Clay Strays, Sam Barber, Dylan Gossett, Gavin Adcock, Zach Top and Hudson Westbrook.

Performers will take the stage at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas, Resorts World Theatre and MGM Grand Garden Arena, and tickets for all shows are on sale now.

Steve Earle Officially Welcomed Into Grand Ole Opry Family

Steve Earle was formally inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry last night (Sept. 17) by friend and fellow Opry member Emmylou Harris.

“Steve is my captain. We have done so many shows together,” said Harris during the induction. “He has been my friend. He has been an inspiration. He is such a fantastic songwriter. I’ve known Steve for so long, and I know that he went through the fire, but he came out with his sense of humor, his intellect and his humanity, not just intact but even stronger. Steve, I am so proud to know you. I can’t think of a better way to begin the next 100 years than with these words, ‘Steve Earle, congratulations on becoming the next member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

During the special evening Earle performed his hits “Guitar Town,” “Hillbilly Highway” and his signature hit “Copperhead Road,” and said, “There has never been any time since I had a guitar that I didn’t want to be on the Grand Ole Opry. Being a member is about as good as it’s ever going to get for me.”

Earle’s friends and fellow Opry members who performed on the show in his celebration included Harris, Vince Gill, Connie Smith, Marty Stuart, Don Schlitz and Deana Carter.

Earle was surprised in April with an invitation from Vince Gill to become a member. The Academy Award winner and Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame member has been called one of the most influential singer-songwriters of the past 30 years, and his songs have been covered by Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Patty Loveless, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, and Eric Clapton, to name a few. Earle was the first artist invited to join the Opry in the Opry’s 100th year.

The Opry will welcome Kathy Mattea into the family as the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry on Oct. 11.

Ninth Annual ‘Scott Hamilton & Friends’ To Feature Rock Legends, Skating Champions

Scott Hamilton is gathering his friends for an electrifying mix of rock anthems and world-class figure skating at the ninth annual “Scott Hamilton & Friends” event at Bridgestone Arena on Nov. 23.
