Cam and Eli Young Band each collected their first MusicRow No. 1 Challenge Coins in Nashville this week.

Cam accepted her coin for “Burning House” at a press event on Monday morning (Oct. 10). The event coincided with her American Music Awards nomination for Favorite Female Artist – Country.

In addition, Eli Young Band received their coin leading up to a concert at Exit/In in Nashville on Sunday. Prior to soundcheck, the band posed with their coins for the No. 1 single, “Dust.” The band’s next concert will take place Wednesday in Charleston, S.C.

Since 2014, every artist and songwriter to reach No. 1 on the MusicRow CountryBreakout Chart receives a coin.

Garth Brooks Surprises CMA Broadcast Award Winners

Garth Brooks surprised radio executives on Friday (Oct. 7) with news that they are this year’s CMA Broadcast Awards winners.

“Radio plays an integral role in our format,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “These winners are advocates for country music in their markets and we are honored to be able to recognize their accomplishments and valued contributions to our industry.”

Buddy Lee Attractions (BLA) has signed Jo Dee Messina to its agency roster. Messina released her latest full-length project, Me, on her own label Dreambound Records, after launching a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Dot Records Adds Promotion Coordinator

Dot Records has added Nicole Hunt as Promotion Coordinator. Hunt fills the vacancy left by Brooke Nixon, who transitioned to Southeast Director of Promotion & Marketing for fellow Big Machine Label Group imprint The Valory Music Co.

A graduate of Suffolk University, the Boston, Massachusetts native worked at WKLB before relocating to Nashville. She will assist with the promotion efforts for the Dot Records roster including Zac Brown Band, Steven Tyler, Maddie & Tae, Aaron Lewis, Drake White and Tucker Beathard.

Lucky Hound Music Launches, Signs Nashville Artist Lani Nash

lucky-hound-musicEngineer/producer Stuart Sullivan, Steven Durr, and producer/engineer Steve Henning, have launched independent artist development label Lucky Hound Music. Lucky Hound’s team includes work in the area of licensing, publishing, and distribution partners based in Nashville, New York and Los Angeles.

To celebrate its launch, Lucky Hound has signed its first two artists, including Nashville singer-songwriter Lani Nash, as well as Matthew Bell and the Next of Kin.

“In an industry of constant change, how artists and their music is made and experienced by fans demands an attention to authenticity and quality,” said Sullivan. “That’s why our approach is to build everything with the artist – from the art to the career – from the ground up.”

“Led by Pamela Newman, our promotion staff has launched and furthered the careers of numerous artists. Though we were successful in garnering airplay, the tension between the expense of launching radio campaigns and our traditional approach of not owning the recordings could never be fully reconciled,” said Thirty Tigers’ president David Macias. “I have immense respect and gratitude for the accomplishments of this team and the spirit in which it was done.”

Country Radio Seminar 2017 Sets Toby Keith As Featured Speaker

Toby Keith will appear as a featured speaker at Country Radio Seminar 2017. Sponsored by BMI, “Toby Keith: My Way” at CRS 2017 will take place Friday, Feb. 24 from 3 -4 p.m. CT.

The discussion will explore Keith’s career, what inspired him to take control of his recorded and live music, form his own label and build a business empire on his terms. Keith will also talk about his strong relationship with men and women of the military, and his dedication to charitable initiatives. Leading the discussion will be RJ Curtis and Beverlee Branigan.

The appearance marks Keith’s return to the seminar since being recognized with CRB’s Artist Humanitarian Award in 2007; the same year he was the headline artist on Country Radio Seminar’s Music City Jam.

Keith is regularly listed among country music’s top earners in Forbes‘ annual rankings. According to Forbes, Keith topped $47.5 million in 2015.

Pearl Records Inc. has hired Nathan Cruise, Hilary Hoover and Glenn Noblit as Directors, Regional Promotion. They will be working with newly-appointed General Manager Lesly Simon and Mandy McCormack.

Additionally, McCormack’s role at the label is expanding to Senior Vice President of Radio Promotion, Marketing and Artist Strategy. The label is owned by Garth Brooks.

“Mandy and I are thrilled to add Hilary, Nathan and Glenn to the Pearl Records Inc. family,” said Simon. “They bring a wealth of experience, a great passion for the music and incredible respect from the radio community to this team.”

Cruise, most recently with In2une Records, has spent the last 20 years in country promotion including stops at Arista, Curb Records, Show Dog and Warner Bros.

“I’m excited to be a part of this team and this chapter in Garth’s career,” said Cruise. “Thank you to Mandy and Lesly for bringing me on board.”

Hoover started her career at All Access Music Group, but spent the last four years in promotion at Broken Bow Records Music Group including time at both RED BOW Records and Stoney Creek Records.

BMI Puts Songwriters In The Spotlight At 2016 Radio Show

During last week’s 2016 Radio Show, which hosted more than 2,000 radio executives in Nashville, BMI highlighted performances of nine of its songwriters before the industry crowd.

BMI-affiliated artists LOCASH performed hits including “I Love This Life” and “I Know Somebody” during an opening night party. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Graham Nash performed on day two of the Radio Show, offering a set of songs from his new album This Path Tonight, as well as some of his classic Crosby, Stills & Nash hits.

The Radio Show is a joint venture between the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB).
