BMG Chrysalis Signs Jonny Price

BMG Chrysalis has signed up-and-coming multi-genre writer and producer Jonny Price. Based in Brooklyn, N.Y., Price attended the North Carolina School Of The Arts and was recently discovered at a Nashville pitch to publisher session where he presented a slew of solo-written songs for both the country and pop genres.

Nashville Celebrates Rascal Flatts' "Rewind"

Rascal Flatts members Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney, and Jay DeMarcus, as well as songwriters Chris DeStefano, Ashley Gorley, and Eric Paslay, were recently honored for Rascal Flatts’ latest chart-topping song, “Rewind.” The Nashville music industry feted the single at ASCAP’s Nashville office Wednesday (June 25). The tune is the title track from the trio’s ninth studio album. “Rewind” is the 15th No. 1 song for Gorley, and the fifth for both DeStefano and Paslay.
“This song has a pedigree with these songwriters,” said Cal IV Entertainment’s Daniel Hill, who thanked Scott Borchetta, Allison Jones, Jack Purcell and Paslay (a former Cal IV intern-turned-hit songwriter and artist), among others.
Big Machine Label Group, as well as publishers Cal IV Entertainment, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, and Warner/Chappell Music Publishing were on hand to celebrate. Warner/Chappell honored the members of Rascal Flatts by making a donation to the Rascal Flatts Pediatric Surgery Center at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

Steve Rice, Vice President of Centricity Publishing, has announced the signing of Christian songwriter David Myers. The West Virginia native recently won Puckett’s Rising Star competition in Franklin, Tenn. and has also penned three songs on the upcoming Satellites and Sirens album.
“I’m so excited to be joining a family that believes in their artists, songwriters, and staff,” said Myers of his new home. “The pursuit to deliver truth to the world is what I admire most about Centricity.”
Myers joins a roster including Seth Mosley, Jason Gray, Unspoken and others.

Debbie Zavitson, owner of Debbie Z Entertainment, has signed Helene Cronin to the singer/songwriter’s first publishing deal. Cronin has performed her song, “Lucky Me,” about a soldier being deployed, on Fox television’s Huckabee show and during many military functions.
“I am so excited to have Helene join our family of writers and look forward to working with her for many years and can’t wait for everyone to discover her,” Zavitson said of her new writer. “She is truly a very special talent.”
Zavitson represents Curb Music Publishing, Jay Lazaroff, Helene Cronin, Paul O’Connor, Doug Johnson’s catalog and Madison Marie Armor.

Disney Music Publishing has signed songwriter James Slater to an exclusive worldwide agreement. Slater has penned songs including “In My Daughter’s Eyes” (Martina McBride), as well as songs recorded by Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Lucy Hale, Enrique Iglesias, Chris Brown, Kenny Chesney, Reba, Phil Vassar and more.
On Disney’s newest writer, Patrick Clifford says, “James is an extraordinary talent, as well as a pillar in the Nashville and international music communities. We are excited and honored to welcome him into the Disney Music Group family.”
Slater, a native of Durham, N.C., studied music at the University of Miami, and later moved to Los Angeles and then to Zurich, Switzerland, where he toured with Belgian group Vaya Con Dios for six years. In 2002, he moved to Nashville to work as a songwriter.

Country band Outshyne has signed a music distribution deal with Sony RED. The company will assist in the distribution of Outshyne’s project Startin’ Over, which includes the single “Moonlight Crush,” penned by Marv Green, Rodney Clawson and Blake Wise.
“I have been a huge fan since the first time I heard them back in October 2013,” said Dewayne Brown, Southeastern Director of Artist & Label Development at RED Nashville. “The song ‘Moonlight Crush’ is written by some of the most unbelievable songwriters here in Nashville, and Waylon [Owings]’s vocal blew me away. But it’s not just Waylon, I love what the boys – Josh, Casey, Jason and Smiley – bring to the party.”

BMI Nashville To Host Sync THIS! In August

Sync this nashvilleOn Aug. 5-6, BMI will host Sync THIS!, an exclusive two-day event aimed at connecting six top music supervisors from television and film with some of Nashville’s new musical talent. The forum, now in its second year, will feature performances from BMI talent Zeke Duhon, Sea Ghouls, firekid, Baby Bee, Colony House and Coin.
The private event will also include panel discussions and dinners Nashville eateries Miel, Barista Parlour, Rumours East and performance venue High Watt. The event was created last year by BMI Associate Director of Writer/Publisher Relations Penny Everhard, and Capitol CMG Director of Film/TV Music Jeremy Ash, to create opportunities for sync revenue for Nashville songwriters and publishers, while exposing music supervisors to the variety of music Nashville has to offer.
“Sync THIS! was founded to cultivate a unique experience in which genuine relationships are created between our BMI talent and the top gatekeepers in film and TV,” says Everhard. “We specifically focus on showcasing the ‘New Nashville’ and our city’s diverse talent, venues and cuisine.”

President of Capitol CMG Publishing (CCMGP) Eddie DeGarmo will retire effective July 31, 2014, Bill Hearn, President/CEO of Capitol Christian Music Group (CCMG) and Evan Lamberg, President, North America, Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) announced today. Throughout the remainder of the year, DeGarmo will serve in an exclusive advisory role to Hearn, who will oversee, on an interim basis, day-to-day operations of the publishing company with CCMGP SVP Casey McGinty and Brentwood Benson Music Publications SVP Johnathan Crumpton.
“I’ve had the privilege and honor of working alongside and learning from Eddie for more than 20 years,” said Hearn. “Eddie is one of those extraordinary talents in the music industry with an uncanny ability to combine his gifted creative skills as an artist and writer with those of a strong business leader and developer of people. I will certainly miss working with him on a day-to-day basis but more importantly our industry will never be the same without his presence. He is truly one of a kind and his footprint on our community can never be filled.”

Throughout his over forty years in music, DeGarmo has had a storied career with success as an artist, songwriter, producer and businessman. He was one of the pioneers of contemporary Christian music as part of rock duo DeGarmo & Key, which was recently inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. DeGarmo has sold millions of albums and garnered numerous Grammy and Dove Award nominations. He co-founded ForeFront Records, where he developed multi-platinum and Grammy winning artists dc TalkStacie OrricoAudio Adrenaline and Rebecca St. James. DeGarmo eventually sold ForeFront to EMI Christian Music Group to focus on his new venture, Meaux Music Publishing. In 2002, he rejoined EMI CMG as President of Publishing, and Meaux was subsequently acquired by EMI CMG in 2005. Under DeGarmo’s leadership, EMI CMG Publishing was named Christian Music Publisher of the Year every year since 2004 by both Billboard and ASCAP. Industry Signings (6/19/14)

Slate Creek Records has signed The Bros. Landreth to its growing roster. The band will join fellow Slate Creek Records artists Brandy Clark and Angaleena Presley.
Brothers Joey and David Landreth were born into a musical family, with Joey taking up guitar, and David experimenting with various instruments before settling on his father’s old Fender P-Bass. Completing the band are Ryan “Rhino” Voth on drums and Alex Campbell on piano and harmonica.
The band’s debut album Let It Lie, produced by Murray Pulver, will be released on Slate Creek Records this fall.

Michael Knox To Lead peermusic

Michael Knox will assume leadership of peermusic’s Nashville operations, when longtime office head Kevin Lamb steps down at the end of August.
Knox, who joined peermusic in 2010, is being promoted from Sr. Creative Director to Vice President, Nashville. Additionally, Kim Wiggins will rise to Sr. Creative Director and Craig Currier is being elevated to Vice President of Advertising Markets.
Lamb has served as VP, Nashville since 1993. Prior to that the industry veteran spent 10 years in music publishing in Muscle Shoals and nine years overseeing Alabama’s Maypop Music Group. He is an active supporter of Country Cares for St. Jude Kids.
Knox is most noted for his production work with Jason Aldean, which has resulted in over 25 million singles and 10 million albums sold. He has won three ACM Awards and has at least 14 No. 1 singles to his credit. Other production credits include Thomas Rhett, Trace Adkins, Brantley Gilbert, Frankie Ballard, Hank Williams, Jr. and more.
Knox also helms his production management company Music Knox, and serves on the boards of directors of the CMA and ACM.
