Colonel Tom Parker Exhibit Opens

CMHOFThe Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has unveiled a special spotlight exhibit dedicated to the life and career of the late Colonel Tom Parker. The revolutionary music business figure served as Elvis Presley’s longtime manager. The exhibit, which is located within the Museum’s permanent exhibition, is titled after one of Parker’s famous slogans, The Colonel Says, “How Much Does It Cost If It’s Free,” and will run through March 2010.

Colonel Parker managed Elvis Presley from 1955 until the singer’s death in 1977. Prior to managing Presley, Parker helped transform Eddy Arnold into a country superstar with his own radio shows, movie roles, Las Vegas bookings, and an unparalleled resumé of No. 1 records. In steering the careers of both men, Parker revolutionized the artist management role, displaying an unprecedented marketing savvy while exercising near-total control. His energetic, all-encompassing management style created a blueprint that is still followed today.

The exhibit will trace Parker’s life and career, from his days as an immigrant carnival worker to his time as a powerful, pioneering artist manager. www.countrymusichalloffame.com

During CCMA ole offered songwriters a chance to hit an instant single-song “home run” publishing deal. Writers, with song demos, were asked to start at first base and then move to second and third as various umpires judged their offerings. Along the way, most songs were Out! before making it all the way to home base. Shane Chisholm however, scored and was offered a deal.

“My idea of the perfect Sunday afternoon includes live music, motorcycles, beer and football…but you also have to have girls…can’t forget about them,” laughs Bentley. “It’s awesome that Wynonna, Michelle and Heidi want to come help us raise some money that day…it should be a blast.”

Bentley has joined forces with Nationwide Insurance, CMT ONE COUNTRY and the Children’s Miracle Network to expand “Miles & Music for Kids” event to six cities across the country in 2009 and 2010, with all proceeds benefiting Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in those areas. The first three “Miles & Music For Kids” events in Nashville have raised over $500,000.

Twitter Chart and Artist Wall High Traffic Destinations

mr_twitterHave you visited Music Row’s Twitter chart and/or Artist Chat Wall? Over the past 30 days, the two sites have been consistent top 10 traffic destinations on MusicRow.com. In fact, Twitter and its related pages are now the No. 1 referrer of traffic to Musicrow.com followed by Facebook and Nashville’s City Paper.

What Are They
The Chart, powered by AristoWorks, shows the Top 75 country artists ranked by the number of Twitter followers. Each artist entry also has a “stats” button which shows a graph of the artist’s growth and predictions for future progress.

The Chat Wall is a real time, continuously updating display of comments from over 128 country artists which can be thought of as a real time conversation. For example, when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift at the MTV Music Video Awards, the Twitter Wall began to erupt almost immediately, with artist comments…

Both pages are loaded with interactive links making it easy to jump to specific artist pages for a closer look and can be found under the “Charts” link at the top of the page on musicrow.com.

MusicRow, which began using Twitter almost a year ago, now has almost 10,500 followers.

“Eat and Greet” With Zac Brown Band

zbbIn addition to being a fiercely talented musician and songwriter, Zac Brown is also something of a food connoisseur. A few lucky fans will get to experience that first hand on Zac Brown Band’s Breaking Southern Ground Tour, when the band hosts an “Eat and Greet” at several tour dates.

Pass holders will not only get to hang with Zac Brown Band before the show, they’ll also be treated to a plate of southern-style cooking prepared by none other than Zac himself with Chef Rusty and featuring Zac’s signature brown sauce, spice rub and more. Each attendee will receive an autographed photo and can wash all that delicious food down with drinks provided by Budweiser.

But as is the case with so many good things, there’s a catch: availability for these passes is extremely limited. Only 24 “Eat and Greet” passes have been allotted for each show at the recession-friendly price of $35 apiece, and they will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. Furthermore, tickets to the concert must be purchased separately. But this is a rare opportunity for the public, because these passes will soon be available only to ZBB fan club members. The Breaking Southern Ground Tour kicks off today (9/24) in Cary, North Carolina and runs through November 14 in Boca Raton, Florida. “Eat and Greet” passes for ZBB shows this weekend are already available for purchase. Big Tractor Music also signed Wade Kirby and Jennifer Zuffinetti earlier this year.

Jewel Asks You to “Give A Drop”

giveadrop2Recording artist Jewel and her non-profit charity Project Clean Water have announced a partnership with the Voss Foundation (www.thevossfoundation.org) and Virgin Unite (www.virginunite.com), to launch the Give A Drop campaign. The program’s goal is to support water projects in Sub-Saharan Africa and its first venture will be the village of Pel in Dogon, Mali.

“I’m very excited that Project Clean Water has formed a partnership with the Voss Foundation and Virgin Unite to help people in need,” said Jewel. “When I was homeless, I became ill and couldn’t afford to buy the bottled water I needed for my sick kidneys.  I realized then that it was hard to get clean drinking water in the United States, and discovered it was a huge problem globally.”

The project in Pel will rehabilitate five wells to modern, efficient and hygienic standards. The village will receive training sessions on well maintenance, hygiene, and water treatment. Studies will be conducted on each well to ensure responsible use and sustainability.

The Give A Drop campaign works through website and text donations. Visit www.giveadrop.com or, to make a $5 donation, just text the message “DROP” to phone number 85944.
