BMI Cancels SXSW Events
Performing rights organization BMI has canceled its planned events surrounding this year’s SXSW Festival, set for March 13-22, 2020 in Austin, Texas.
The company said in a statement: “The health and safety of our team members and our songwriters is of paramount importance, and we regret any inconvenience this may cause. We look forward to showcasing our songwriters’ incredible music next year at SXSW 2021.”
Among the events BMI was slated to host was The Yeti X BMI Day Party, scheduled for March 19, featuring performances from Almost Monday, Sir Woman, Houndmouth and more. BMI Presents: Sonidos Alternos was slated for March 18 featuring artists including Andrea Cruz and Jona Camacho, while the BMI Acoustic Brunch was set for March 20, featuring JP Saxe, Early James, and more.
BMI’s notice also stated the the company will evaluate other upcoming BMI-hosted events on a case-by-case basis.
