Jim Lauderdale Sets July Release For 'I'm A Song' Album

i'm a song111A legendary songwriter, artist and musician in Nashville’s Country, Bluegrass, and Americana circles, Jim Lauderdale will release his upcoming 26th project, I’m A Song, on July 1.
The 20-track album boasts guests Lee Ann Womack, Patty Loveless and Buddy Miller, as well as songwriting from co-writers Gary Allan, Bobby Bare, Odie Blackmon, Jimmy Ritchey, Elvis Costello, Robert Hunter and more.
Jim’s band on I’m A Song includes James Burton, Al Perkins, Kenny Vaughn, Dennis Crouch, Stuart Duncan, and John Oates.

Due to popular demand, “King of Broken Hearts,” Jim’s most requested tune is re-recorded for the first time since Planet of Love was released in 1991. “I wanted to do ‘King of Broken Hearts’ again since that album is out of print, and people keep asking for that song. That’s one that I do at just about every show as a tribute to Gram Parsons and George Jones,” Lauderdale says.

Untitled-1The Country Music Hall of Fame’s Tim Davis and Michael McCall have co-curated a free Country music photography exhibit to run in Los Angeles’ Annenberg Space for Photography from May 31-Sept. 28.
Developed with Shannon Perich of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American, Country: Portraits of an American Sound will explore how both historical and contemporary images shape the public identity of Country music. A variety of documentary, studio, promotional and fine art images are featured of Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Keith Urban and Hank Williams—as well as deejays, fans, executives and musicians. Photographers include Opry veteran Les Leverett, among others.
On Thursday, Aug. 21, the Nashville co-curators will be featured in the free evening lecture series, Iris Nights, in conjunction with the California exhibition. In addition to being streamed online, tickets are available for reservation.
As part of the exhibit, an original half-hour documentary will also highlight photography’s role in Country music’s more than 80-year evolution. Commissioned by the art-space, the Arclight Production will feature over a dozen Country music artists, including Roy Clark, Merle Haggard, Lyle Lovett, LeAnn Rimes, Marty Stuart, Lee Ann Womack and more.

SAG-AFTRA, SoundExchange Team To Distribute Unclaimed Royalties

soundexchangeMedia and entertainment union SAG-AFTRA and SoundExchange, the independent organization that collects and distributes royalties for the streaming of sound recordings on digital radio, have teamed up. Together they identified SAG-AFTRA members who may have a cumulative $2.3 million in unclaimed royalties for the use of their recordings from 2,500+ digital radio services.
sag aftra logoSAG-AFTRA and SoundExchange conducted an extensive crosscheck between their two databases to identify nearly 2,000 union member performers who are potentially owed royalties. A large number of those identified as potentially having royalties collected by SoundExchange on their behalf include actors and comedians, who are likely unaware they are owed money. All members identified are receiving communications via U.S. mail and email alerting them to the waiting money, and directing them to SoundExchange’s simple (and free) online registration.
“While we are best known for our focus on music, SoundExchange also collects royalties for actors, comedians and spoken word recordings,” said SoundExchange President and CEO Michael Huppe. “The match with SAG-AFTRA allows SoundExchange to reach all of these important performers (both music and non-music) who are entitled to their share of royalties from streaming radio services.”
For details or to register visit www.soundexchange.com or call SoundExchange at 800-961-2091.

Steve Wariner Books Date at Nashville's Listening Room

Steve Wariner

Steve Wariner will perform a rare, intimate concert at The Listening Room Cafe in Nashville on Wednesday, June 18 at 8:30 p.m.
“I always loved it when Chet Atkins performed his series of shows at Café Milano back in the ‘90s, and for a long time I’ve thought it would be fun to do something like that,” said Wariner, who spent several years performing in Atkins’ band.
“Chet could have easily played in any arena around town, but instead he wanted to be somewhere cozy and comfortable where the locals and tourists alike could see him perform whatever he felt like doing,” he continues. “That’s the approach I’m taking with this show as well — I’m going to have fun and just let the night dictate what I perform. Of course I’ll do some of my hits, but I love the thought of just coming out on stage, picking up my guitar, and playing whatever comes to mind. I’m still deciding if it will be me and the band, me solo and acoustic, or me and a few players. Who knows? If it’s as much fun as I think it will be, I might decide to do this more often.”
