Joe Kelly has been appointed Vice President/General Manager at CDX. Kelly, who was instrumental in the launch and branding of CDX in the 90’s, had recently rejoined CDX President Paul Lovelace with the concept of taking CDX into a digital platform.
“Joe has the vision, expertise and enthusiasm to keep CDX at the forefront of our 23-year tradition of providing new music and information to the worldwide Country Radio and Music Communities,” says Lovelace. “For the past year, Joe has lead the efforts in redesigning the CDX website, creating an outstanding home page and download center – very convenient and easy to navigate. Along with our bi-weekly CDX Disc service, all past and current volumes are now available for radio station downloads. Additionally, CDX INSTATRACKS make a single release available to radio instantly at the download center whenever our client wants it made available, down to the minute.”

david shelby 2013 photo111Highway South Records artist and Detroit native David Shelby visited the MusicRow offices on Wednesday (June 26).
Shelby picked up trumpet and accordion playing at a young age and eventually studied Jazz and Contemporary Media in college. After college, he played lead trumpet in various groups, including performances with Phil Collins and Stevie Wonder. He was first exposed to country music through a Garth Brooks concert. “You could tell Garth really cared about the crowd and entertaining,” says Shelby.
Shelby performed songs from his EP, including “Kick A Little Dirt Around” and “Moonshine.” On Aug. 8, Shelby will perform a showcase at Nashville’s 12th & Porter.

Tamara Saviano Media Expands into Texas

tamara savianoTamara Saviano Media has launched the subsidiary group American Roots Media and has opened an office in the Texas Hill Country of Fredericksburg, Texas. Saviano will partner with music executive Abbey Road, who will manage the Texas office. American Roots Media has signed celebrated troubadour Radney Foster and notable Texas singer-songwriters Brennen Leigh, Noel McKay and Bonnie Bishop for management.
Abbey Road will maintain her duties as talent buyer for the historical venue Luckenbach, TX and her radio show on Hill Country Americana station KDRP.
Saviano will continue to oversee the day-to-day operation of KK Records and public relations for Kris Kristofferson. She also continues as co-manager of Sugar Hill recording artist Brian Wright in partnership with Los Angeles-based Entropy Collective. Tamara Saviano Media will continue to take on short-term project management and publicity for outside projects.

Big Machine Label Group Promotes Three

Big Machine Label Group (BMLG) has made three promotions across various departments within the company. Effective immediately, Megan Knutson has been elevated to BMLG Director of Label Group Resources; Kelsey Chandler was upped to Republic Nashville Label Coordinator and Jimmy Chapin has been named BMLG International Coordinator.
“Scott Borchetta, Jimmy Harnen and the entire BMLG family are incredible!” says Knutson. “Their passion, dedication, intelligence and love of music are unmatched, and I am so proud to be a part of this amazing group of people. Jimmy has been, and continues to be, an inspiring teacher, and I look forward to utilizing all that I’ve learned in my expanded role with all three labels.”
Knutson will now work with departments and artists across each Big Machine imprint (Big Machine Records, Republic Nashville, The Valory Music Co.). Her responsibilities will encompass creating budgets and project rollouts as well as artist development activities and coordinating schedules. Knutson will also act as a liaison with Republic Records, label partner to Republic Nashville. In a newly-created role, Chapin will assist in various international press and marketing needs for artists across the entire BMLG talent roster and has already assisted in various projects, including lyric videos for Taylor Swift’s “Eyes Open” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” which aired globally. Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Board Elects Trustees

countrymusichalloffameAt the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum’s quarterly board meeting Thursday (June 27), David Conrad, J. William Denny and John Grady (partner, Crush Management), were re-elected to three-year terms as trustees. UBS Financial Services Sr. VP Mark Bloom was elected to a first term as a trustee. Music industry executive Randy Goodman, Sony Music Nashville Chairman and CEO Gary Overton, and Enterprise Electric CEO James C. Seabury, III were elected as officers.
Steve Turner, president of Butler’s Run LLC, was tapped for a sixth term as chairman; and Country Music Hall of Fame member Vince Gill was re-elected to a 12th consecutive term as president.
Remaining trustees include Rod Essig, Keel Hunt, Henry Juszkiewicz, Ken Levitan, Mary Ann McCready, Steve Turner, Ernie Williams and Jody Williams. Current officers Earl Bentz, Connie Bradley, Mike Dungan, Vince Gill, Al Giombetti, Francis Guess, Lon Helton, Mike Helton, Don Light, Donna Nicely, David Ross, John Seigenthaler, Clarence Spalding, Troy Tomlinson and Tim Wipperman were all re-elected.

Nashville's Leadership Music Summit Coming in September

leadership music summit111Leadership Music’s annual Digital Summit returns this fall with a new title, new direction, and a renewed focus on educating and connecting music industry and digital marketing leaders. The nine-year-old conference is being renamed and rebranded as the Leadership Music Summit, a move that will allow for the theme of the event to address and incorporate the hot-button issues of the moment from year-to-year. Slated for Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works, the 2013 summit is subtitled “Digital Solutions Powered by the Entrepreneurial Spirit.” Co-chairs for this year’s event are Leadership Music alumni Heather McBee (“America’s Morning Show,” Cumulus Media) and Cameo Carlson (Borman Entertainment).
“Our goal with this year’s event is to introduce members of the music community to the growing number of digital marketing and platform opportunities that are being developed by entrepreneurs,” says McBee. The 2013 event is targeted to attendees and participants ranging from college students to movers-and-shakers of the entrepreneurial community across the Southeast to a variety of music industry leaders and decision-makers, including artist managers, record label staff and executives, attorneys, business managers and members of the media, marketing and publicity communities.
Planned panel topics include “Bringing Content to Fruition” and “Marketing & Engagement.” An anticipated highlight is “The Dream Projects,” a competition where content “owners” (i.e. record labels, managers, publishers, artists) can pre-submit a need that would benefit from digital ideas and initiatives. Three “finalists” will be chosen from the pool of submissions; each will be provided a 10-minute presentation opportunity at the Summit. A panel of judges will choose a “winner,” and assist that content owner in connecting with potential digital solution providers. An inverse opportunity will also be provided to digital start-ups – three “finalists” will be selected from a field of pre-submitted initiatives, each will be allowed to present their idea of a dream project and connections will be made with music industry entities who can utilize the “winning” concept. In addition to receiving a cash prize, the winning projects will be included in the feature news in MusicRow.
 

Apple Sets iTunes Radio Royalty Rate For Independent Artists

appleApple is offering independent musicians a non-negotiable royalty rate of $0.0013 per stream on iTunes Radio, according to Digital Music News. Apple will also offer a 15 percent share of net advertising revenue for the first year; in subsequent years, the rate rises to $0.0014 plus a 19 percent share of net advertising revenues. iTunes Radio was announced earlier this month.
iTunes Radio will also allow listeners up to six song skips each hour, provided they skip within the first 20 seconds of a song. This also allows Apple to not pay for song skips. According to Billboard, the minimum royalty rate includes 45 percent of net advertising revenue plus $21.25 for each 1,000 listener hours in the first year and $22.25 for the remainder of the license agreement.
Also, Digital Music News reports Apple is threatening to punish iRadio holdouts by removing their music from the iTunes music store.

Will Hoge has partnered with Thirty Tigers to release his ninth studio album, Never Give In, via the independent company on Oct. 15, 2013. “Will Hoge is a versatile talent who has found success as a writer, performer, and recording artist and we are honored to work with him. The Commorative Air Force’s (CAF) Boeing B-29 Superfortress will visit Smyrna Airport near Nashville for a six-day stay, beginning Tuesday, July 2. Aaron Tippin will be flying copilot when the airplane arrives. Tippin, a CAF member and a spokesperson for the organization, is part of the B-29 crew and also flies their B-24 Liberator. The aircraft will be on display through July 7 for cockpit tours and rides.
Tippin dedicates his time and talent appearing and performing at various Commemorative Air Force events across the country, including the Red, White & Loud Tour celebrating America’s freedom through song and the flight of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, FIFI. “For me, this is an opportunity of a lifetime to bring aviation enthusiasts and country fans together,” says Aaron, “I’m blessed because my kind of country music is patriotic and all-American. My involvement with the CAF caters to both aviation and country music enthusiasts.”
