Danny Gokey went country because he was told to. he didn’t even know what the Grand Ole Opry was when AI did a country music night. He’s just using country music and doesn’t really care about it. Gokey needs to get his butt back to pop music like Jessica Simpson.

Saw that performance Danny Gokey did on the KTLA broadcast. Seems like a great choice for his first official single.

I really like Danny’s new single. In fact, all three new songs I have heard from his upcoming album are great. Maybe RCA Nashville should consider a 3 song digital EP for Danny also. I know I would buy it.

Totally lovin’ Danny’s song, My Best Days…and his best days are definitely ahead of him as the lyrics say! This is a snappy happy song that just makes me wanna get up and dance. Perfect song for his first single release and I am really excited about hearing his new album. I never was much of a country music fan until now but Danny has found his niche in this genre and is on his way!

“My Best Days” is an upbeat, feel good song. I think it will have wider appeal. I can see something like this being very popular in live performances. And the video will be fun. I am willing to bet they will have Danny dancing. Danny said that when it was first performed at Sony, someone said that they can easily see this song being played in a movie. Ironically, the DJ in San Francisco who interviewed Danny said the same thing. It certainly features Danny’s soulful voice. And I don’t think the critics will claim that this is more of a CCM song. And it certainly fits Danny’s personality – he really is an upbeat, fun kind of guy.

I guess if Danny had even been a pop singer, it could make sense to tell him to stay there, although the boundaries of today’s country music thankfully are so much more fluid and open than that. There is room for all kinds of talents and styles today. I couldn’t even begin to guess at the diversity of styles in just my personal country music collection. Danny has no background in singing pop, however, outside the format of AI. He sang religious (gospel) music in his church programs, and was a truck driver before making it through the winnowing process to get to the Top 3 on AI.
Many if not most of my favorite artists do occasional songs with a faith message or underlying gospel style. I love that, and certainly would not wish to see singers from that background turned away from the country scene.
I’m personally thrilled that Danny is so drawn to the heart and message of country music that he is making that his career. His first three album tracks, all written by established country songwriters, make a great start.

FRP – Maybe you’re right, maybe Danny went country because he was told to and I’m thankful he listened to those who advised him to go for it because he fits right in country. His intention is to put out good and meaningful music and country is the best vehicle for that. I don’t think he can sing about the important things in life if he went pop because pop music can be shallow. Danny is right on target.

So, who cares if he did not know what the Grand Ole Opry was? Does it matter? That didn’t stop Sony/RCA from signing him up. I’m sure country fans are not as close-minded as some people would like to picture them. Taylor Swift, anyone? Or maybe haters are just scared Danny’s single will surpass the sales of the other three idols.

As for his single? Yes, I’m loving it. What’s not to love about it when it talks about optimism. Go get ’em, D!

Excellent choice for a single – has the ability to ‘cross’ over just like Taylor Swift has!! I think Danny Gokey is perfectly capable of choosing a genre of music to pursue and certainly knows what he is doing!
I have heard all 3 tracks that are doing the rounds at the moment and love every one of them – good solid base for the forthcoming album.

I’m a country music fan and I really like this song. It has great guitar work, nice lyrics, he sure has an interesting voice and sings it well. I can see people kicking up their hills at their local bar to this song.

Different flavors of country. I’m not hard-core for the most part. This song has the right mixture of sweet vocals and musical arrangement that I enjoy.
