Taylor Swift was the top winner at last night’s American Music Awards, receiving five trophies at the all-genre fan-voted show. Country as a whole was well-represented at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, snagging several awards as well as performances by Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood. Gloriana lovers voted via text to give them the T-Mobile “Breakthrough Artist” Award. Other winners from the Country front included Favorite Male Artist Urban and Favorite Band, Duo or Group Rascal Flatts.

Swift, who was in London accepted via video, taking home the biggest prize, Artist of the Year. She won all but one category for which she was nominated: Favorite Female Artist (Pop/Rock), Favorite Female Artist (Country), Favorite Album (Country), and Favorite Artist (Adult Contemporary).

Other Nashvillians making appearances were Jason Aldean, Reba, Zac Brown Band and Nicole Kidman.

The night marked Whitney Houston’s return to stage singing “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.” And Adam Lambert, in his first live television appearance since American Idol, closed the show with a risque performance that has fans and media buzzing.

Kix Plays Tootsie’s; Band Perry Opry Debut

Last night, Kix Brooks (of Brooks & Dunn fame) dropped into country music’s legendary honky-tonk, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge on Lower Broadway in Nashville, where he surprised patrons with impromptu performances on both the front and back stages.

Famed honky-tonk Tootsie’s scored an impromptu performance by Kix Brooks on Tuesday night (11/17). While a few nights earlier, next door at the Ryman Auditorium, up-and-comers The Band Perry made their Opry debut.

 The Band Perry Makes Grand Ole Opry Debut Friday the 13th proved to be a very lucky day for Republic Nashville recording artist The Band Perry, as the trio – siblings Kimberly, Neil and Reid Perry – made their Grand Ole Opry debut on the stage of the historic Ryman Auditorium on November 13. - Capitol Records artist Luke Bryan became the first country artist to perform at a UCF (University of Central Florida) Homecoming concert, opening in Orlando, Florida for rapper T Pain this past Saturday. The audience was quite receptive to Bryan’s hits “All My Friends Say,” “Country Man,” current smash “DO I” and more.

 – On Saturday night, country stars Joe Nichols and Heidi Newfield, with the help of fast-rising country artist Derek Sholl and “Nashville Star” finalist Kacey Musgraves, helped to honor the brave, wounded and disabled warriors from East Texas who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan, at the “Country for Our Country” benefit concert in Tyler, Texas. Funds raised by the event will benefit Military Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF), and be used to support education for the wounded warriors, or their family members.    Emceed by radio personalities Big D and Bubba, the event took place at the beautiful Villa de Felicita in Tyler. "Country At The White House" will air tomorrow (8/15) on GAC. Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss and Charley Pride performed at show in the East Room. The 90-minute episode features opening remarks from the President and performances by the three Opry stars. It debuts this Saturday, August 15, 8 PM/CT on GAC.

The film hits theatres nationwide on Saturday, August 15. "CMT Insider" airs Saturday at 12:30 PM/CT and Sunday at 10 AM/CT.
