Social Media Success Story CJaye LeRose

Online marketing success stories are becoming more and more common and CJaye LeRose is the latest example. She started a YouTube channel in April 2009 to raise awareness about pet adoption, and posted a self-penned song along with dog rescue videos. Now the Texas native has had more than one million video views on YouTube and is planning the release of a full length album.

For LeRose, the next step after YouTube was starting a Twitter account, inspired partly by MusicRow’s Twitter chart which ranks country singers by the number of followers.

In less than six months, she’s gained 10,000 followers and moved up to No. 55 in the rankings. LeRose calls the whole experience “surreal.”

Lately she’s been in Nashville prepping for the release of her debut album, Date With The Tub, due this fall. She has recruited Music City Networks to build a web site at www.cjayelerose.com, completed a photo shoot with Melinda Norris, and made a video for lead single, “The Porch,” with Gamma Blast director Chad Denning.

LeRose’s first performance in Nashville will be at Crownover Tisinger’s End of The Row Party to benefit the TJ Martell Foundation. It is set for Sept. 16 at the law offices at 1701 18th Avenue South.

Graph shows LeRose's strong growth in Twitter followers in recent months.

A big THANK YOU country radio for the great debut! Thank you to our promoters Regina, Christina, Tom, and Steve!

In a word, “Wow.” LOVE the track: It pulses like a heartbeat. Michelle aches exquisitely in her lead vocal. The chorus has monstrous hooks. This thing has the wings of a mighty angel.”
—Robert K. Oermann, MusicRow

Just in time for the sizzlin’ dog-days of summer Blue Steel Records duo Burns & Poe is back with a soulful mid-tempo about a heart-on-the-mend, served with breezy harmonies. “How Long Is Long Enough” was co-penned by Keith Burns and Frankie Golden, produced by Mark Oliverius and will appear on the duo’s upcoming self-titled album. It has already made a huge first week debut at No. 58 on MusicRow’s CountryBreakout Chart.

“For every song I’ve written I think the lyrics need to speak for themselves,” says Burns. “When Michelle and I were in the studio, we agreed the music had to be stripped down to bare bones, plain and simple, to showcase how vulnerable and numb the character is. It’s our version of Eric Carmen’s ‘All By Myself’.”

Poe agrees, saying, “She’s at a place where we’ve all been at one point or another. After ending a relationship you want to be able to move on with your life, but sometimes it takes more time than you’d hope. The heart takes time to feel; the heart takes time to heal. The lyric, ‘Tell me when does a heart give up?’ sums up the song perfectly. When can I give in, let go and get on with my life? Who hasn’t felt that way?”

UMG Videos Back on MTV.com

Videos from UMG artists including Lady Gaga are back on MTV.com, temporarily.

Universal Music Group is temporarily allowing MTV.com to stream music videos from its artists. The label group had recently forced MTV.com to remove the videos until a licensing agreement could be reached.

According to AdAge.com, UMG came around, at least for the time being, so that fans can watch the videos and vote for MTV’s awards show. The Video Music Awards are set for Sept. 21 in Los Angeles. Online viewer voting closes Aug. 24.

It appears that videos from UMG Nashville artists are not available on CMT.com, which is part of MTV Networks.

Ad Age also reports that UMG wants MTV to negotiate with Vevo to renew streaming video rights. UMG and Sony created Vevo as an online video destination.

George Richey Passes

MusicRow has confirmed George Richey, longtime husband of Tammy Wynette, passed away recently. According to Woodlawn Memorial Park, Richey has been laid to rest near Wynette in the Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum.

Richey and Wynette wed in 1978; it was her fifth and longest marriage. Songwriter/producer Richey had been in her life for many years as a businessman and musician before they married. Throughout much of the 1980s he acted as her manager and they were married until Wynette’s death in 1998.

In 2001 Richey married Sheila Slaughter. MusicRow was unable to reach Slaughter-Richey for comment.

Richey’s Facebook page status, updated last night (8/15), says the following:

Hope you have been enjoying reminiscing with me over the past two weeks. I know it’s not been the same as having current updates but I still have found it to be a blessing and such a graceful time to honor a great man and his family. …When the Richey’s are ready to make their private business public – you will understand more!
