Zac Brown Band‘s Southern Ground Music and Food Festival took place Oct. 11-12 in Charleston, S.C.’s Blackbaud Stadium. AXS-TV aired more than 10 hours of coverage from the two-day festival. The lineup included performances from Zac Brown Band, Blues Traveler, Gov’t Mule, and more.

Great American Country’s and NASH-FM’s “Kickin’ It With Kix” co-host Suzanne Alexander hosted a very special songwriter in- the-round last night where Gary Allan, Charlie Worsham, Brett James and Chris Stapleton performed for a full house at The Listening Room in Nashville. The fundraising event for St. Jude Children’s Hospital raised nearly $9,000. A longtime supporter of St. Jude, Alexander has also been running one half marathon per month since April for the nonprofit and will culminate her efforts with next month’s New York City Marathon, her second.

57th Annual Grammy Awards First-Round Voting Now Open
/by Jessica NicholsonMore than 20,000 entries were received, of which 17,144 remained valid. Nominations for the 57th Grammy Awards will be announced the first week of December. Final ballots will be released Dec. 17, 2014.
The 57th annual Grammy Awards’ eligibility period is from Oct. 1, 2013 through Sept. 30, 2014, and includes 83 categories in 30 fields.
The 57th annual Grammy Awards will be held Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast on CBS Television.
2015 Bonnaroo Dates Revealed

The four-day festival launched in 2002 with little traditional advertising and sold out its 70,000 tickets in 11 days. Since then, organizers have continued to expand, reaching more than 90,000 for the 2014 event.
Songwriter, Richlyn Marketing Staffer Earns ASCAP Honor

Tori Tullier, a songwriter and part-time publicist for Nashville’s Richlyn Marketing, has been honored with ASCAP’s 2014 Sammy Cahn award. Tullier’s song “Your Nicotine” earned highest scores from this year’s group of judges.
Tullier joins past recipients of the award, including John Mayer, Lori McKenna, Josh Ritter, Daniel Mackenzie, Chris Keup, and others. Tullier resides in Nashville. She graduated from the University of Miami in 2011 with a degree in Commercial Music Composition and a minor in Music Business. While in Miami, she earned first place in the Bruce Hornsby Songwriting Competition. She was also selected for ASCAP’a 2014 Guidance from Publishers for Songwriters (GPS) Project, and has performed for ASCAP’s “We Create Music” series.
She has garnered cuts on independent artists, and is seeking her first publishing deal.
Judges for this year’s Sammy Cahn Award included Gretchen Peters, Pamela Oland, and Adam Schlesinger.

CMA Songwriters Series To Culminate 10th Season in NYC

YouTube Music Nashville To Offer Workshops
/by Sarah SkatesThe events will focus on educating creators, building an audience and music publishing. Among the topics of discussion will be how YouTube integrates with other Google properties including Google Play and G+.
This is the latest move by YouTube to help video content creators. The company also recently introduced Realtime Reports to its analytics dashboard, providing hour-by-hour and minute-by-minute information including view counts, minutes watched, levels of engagements (likes, dislikes, comments, etc.) and demographic views.
YouTube and SiriusXM also partnered for “YouTube 15,” which includes airplay on the satcaster as well as a series of original videos, in-studio performances and interviews.
The workshops will kick off with an invitation-only event later this month.

Capitol Music Group (CMG) has named Ambrosia Healy as Sr. VP, Head of Media Strategy & Relations. Healy will oversee design and execution of publicity plans for CMG artists and projects for the company’s portfolio of labels, including Capitol, Virgin, Motown, Harvest, Blue Note, and Astralwerks.
Healy has 20 years in the music industry. In 2001, she worked as VP of Publicity for Capitol Records, helming the company’s PR efforts for five years. She has worked with Dave Matthews Band, ColdPlay, Nine Inch Nails, Phish, Fiona Apple, and more.

U2's Bono Says 'Oops. I'm Sorry About That'
/by Sherod RobertsonFan Harriet Madeleine Jobson brought up U2’s new album Songs of Innocence which was distributed freely on iTunes to users’ playlists. She asked, “Can you please never release an album on iTunes that automatically downloads to people’s playlists ever again? It’s really rude.”
U2’s frontman Bono responded sincerely with, “Oops. I’m sorry about that. I had this beautiful idea. Might have got carried away with ourselves. Artists are prone to that kind of thing. A drop of megalomania, a touch of generosity, a dash of self-promotion and deep fear that these songs that we poured our life into over the last few years mightn’t be heard. There’s a lot of noise out there. I guess we got a little noisy ourselves to get through it.”
While many fans were excited to receive the full album at no cost, there was so much negative feedback that iTunes quickly gave directions to users on how to remove the album from their library.
There has been backlash from the music industry as well. Some industry members believe the free distribution devalues music and fuels consumers’ declining willingness to pay for it.
Sony/ATV Signs Songwriter/Producer Kevin Kadish

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has signed songwriter/producer Kevin Kadish to a worldwide deal. The agreement includes the Meghan Trainor hit “All About That Bass,” which Kadish penned with Trainor. He not only co-wrote Trainor’s debut single, but programmed the drums and bass, played guitar, and produced the track.
Martin Bandier, Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO, said: “We’re really excited at Sony/ATV to have Kevin Kadish as an exclusive songwriter. ‘All About The Bass’ is clearly one of the biggest songs of the year and we know there is a lot more to come from him.”
Kadish said, “I’m excited to start this new chapter in my career with Sony/ATV. From their amazing creative staff, to their thorough collections, I think they’re the perfect fit for me. I’m honored to be in the Sony family.”
The song has sold 2.7 million downloads in the States according to Nielsen SoundScan, and has been certified 2x platinum by the RIAA. Trainor is a writer for Nashville’s Big Yellow Dog Music.

Conducted by longtime ASCAP member and veteran songwriter Darrell Brown (“You’ll Think Of Me,” “Raining On Sunday” – Keith Urban, “Why Don’t We Just Dance” – Josh Turner), the sessions provided advice on the art and craft of successful songwriting techniques, as well as information on important business-related topics including A&R and music publishing.

The 2014 Girl Scout Luncheon was held at the Music City Center on September 15 and featured Grammy and CMA Award Winning Country Vocalist Lee Ann Womack. The luncheon raised funds to support more than 13,000 Girl Scouts throughout the 39 counties of Middle Tennessee.

The Academy of Country Music welcomed Arista Nashville recording artists The Swon Brothers to the office while they were in Los Angeles recently. While at the Academy, they performed their first Top 15 hit “Later On” as well as “Pray For You,” the new single from their self-titled major-label debut album released earlier this week.
