Tyler Rich Readies ‘Leaving California’ Due This Month

Tyler Rich will release the second part of his double album, Leaving California, on Sept. 26 via ONErpm. Rich just released a new song, “Made Up My Mind,” co-written with Michael Tyler and Lalo Guzman, from the upcoming project.

“‘Made Up My Mind’ is that moment when you finally walk away from the wreckage and find something worth running toward,” says Rich. “We’ve all had times caught between being the good guy and the bad guy, letting the devil on our shoulder have his way for a while. But then they show up, cut through all the noise, and suddenly none of the old life matters. They change your path, your life, and your mind all at once.”

Following the release of the first album, Hello California, earlier this year, Rich’s second installment was shaped with input from fans, family and friends, highlighting his commitment to connecting with listeners. Among the project’s tracks are the title track, the summer-ready single “When?” and “Damn What a Woman,” inspired by his wife, actress Sabina Gadecki. Rich also tips his hat to his musical roots with a cover of Bush’s “Comedown” from Sixteen Stone, the first CD he ever bought.

“On my debut album, I covered Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean,’ and I knew I wanted a cover for this sophomore release,” says Rich. “Bush inspired me from the very beginning, and this was my way of honoring that influence while giving the song a fresh take.”

The album features production from fellow Californians Brad Hill and Guzman and contributions from musicians including guitarist Nathan Keeterle, drummer Phil Lawson, piano player David Dorn and slide guitarist Andy Ellison.

Rich returns to the road this fall on his “Leaving California Tour,” which launches Sept. 28.

SESAC Announces Date For 2025 Nashville Music Awards

The SESAC Nashville Music Awards will take place on Sunday, Nov. 16, kicking off CMA Awards week in Nashville. ​​The invitation-only event will celebrate performers in the country and Americana genres, including Song of the Year, Publisher of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

“We’re thrilled to once again have the opportunity to honor our songwriters and publishers here in Nashville,” says Shannan Hatch, SVP, Head of Nashville Creative. “We love celebrating the music they make and the lives they touch with their craft.”

Previous award winners include Lee Brice, Megan Moroney, Zac Brown, Dillon Carmichael, Blanco Brown, Sierra Ferrell, Chris LaCorte, Jon Nite, Hillary Scott and more.

The 59th annual CMA Awards will return to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Big Machine Label Group Hosts Epic 20th Anniversary Concert

Big Machine Label Group hosted a giant anniversary party in downtown Nashville Friday night (Aug. 29), “Big Machine 20,” featuring a star-studded lineup of artists from the label’s current roster and throughout BMLG’s 20-year history.

Founder, Chairman and CEO Scott Borchetta welcomed the crowd of over 100,000 fans packed into lower Broadway, saying, “I can’t believe that we’re turning 20 this year, but here we are. When we thought about how to celebrate this milestone, we couldn’t think of a better way than to throw the biggest party possible as a heartfelt thanks to you – the fans. Thank you for supporting our artists and our music.”

The anniversary concert celebration included performances from a host of label hitmakers including Riley Green, who treated the crowd to a number of his hits including the triple Platinum single “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” and double Platinum tracks “There Was This Girl” and “Worst Way.” Green also invited Carly Pearce to join him on his Platinum “Don’t Mind If I Do,” and Hannah McFarland made a surprise appearance for a performance of his song “Pick A Place.”

Sheryl Crow rocked the Big Machine 20 stage with “Prove You Wrong,” “Steve McQueen” and “Everyday is a Winding Road,” before Diamond hitmaker Brett Young treated the crowd to chart-toppers including the Diamond-certified “In Case You Didn’t Know,” the four-times Platinum “Mercy,” and double-Platinum singles “Sleep Without You” and “Here Tonight.”

Pearce performed hits including Platinum-certified “Next Girl,” Double Platinum “What He Didn’t Do” and triple-Platinum “I Hope You’re Happy Now.” Rascal Flatts frontman Gary LeVox and R&B/pop superstar Akon took Broadway to the beach with a surprise performance of their breezy summer party anthem “Hold The Umbrella.”

The Band Perry celebrated their recent return to the BMLG/Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment family with performances of their mega-hits “If I Die Young,” “Chainsaw,” “Better Dig Two” and “Done.” Country artist and Staind frontman Aaron Lewis added to the star power of the night with his performances of  “It’s Been Awhile,” “Country Boy” and his Billboard No. 1 Hot Country Song debut and Gold track “Am I The Only One.”

Surprise act Rascal Flatts closed the night with a bevy of their hits including “Fast Cars And Freedom,” “I Like The Sound Of That,” and “Life Is A Highway.” Pearce returned to join the trio onstage for a heartfelt rendition of “My Wish,” which appears on their recent collaboration album Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets.

The show also included performances from rising country/Americana four-piece The Jack Wharff Band, RaeLynn, Jack Ingram, Danielle Bradbery, Preston Cooper and Danielle Peck, who was the first-ever Big Machine artist to send a single to country radio, and kicked off the historic night with her songs “Findin’ a Good Man” and “I Don’t.”

The Big Machine 20 bash served as the kick-off for the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix NTT INDYCAR SERIES Championship weekend, with Indycar drivers joining Borchetta on stage and hyping up fans during the show. The evening also included the fifth annual Freedom Friday event, honoring members of the Military, Police, Fire, First Responders and Frontline Heroes.

The Band Perry Releases Remastered Self-Titled Debut

The Band Perry has released a new remastered version of their self-titled debut album, which originally released in 2010 and sold over a million copies in the U.S.

The project featured the band’s multi-Platinum hits “Better Dig Two,” “Done.” and their signature song “If I Die Young,” which is 9X Platinum, won 2011 CMA Song and Single of the Year awards, earned a Grammy nomination, spent 53 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and topped both the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Hot AC charts.

Throughout the course of their career, the Grammy-winning trio earned critical and commercial acclaim, sold two and a half million albums, 12 million singles, racked up over a billion streams, earned multiple CMA, ACM and CMT Music Awards, and landed six No. 1 country radio singles.

The band, who helped their label Big Machine celebrate its 20th anniversary at the Big Machine 20 concert in Nashville on Friday night (Aug. 29), is currently in the studio working with producer Dann Huff on new music.

Cole Swindell Releases Apple Music Sessions EP, Kicks Off Headline Tour This Week

Cole Swindell released Apple Music Nashville Sessions: Cole Swindell today (Sept. 2). For the EP, Swindell recorded a special version of his current single “We Can Always Move On” featuring Priscilla Block, “Dirty Dancing,” a fan-favorite from his new album, and a 3 Doors Down cover of “Here Without You.”

Additionally, Swindell will hit the road this week on his “Happy Hour Sad Tour” this Thursday (Sept. 4) in Toledo, Ohio. Block, Logan Crosby and Greylan James will join as support on select dates.

The “Happy Hour Sad Tour” is named after a song on his recently released 5th studio album for Warner Music Nashville. Spanish Moss also includes his current single “We Can Always Move On” as well as his 13th No. 1 single “Forever To Me.”

Chandler Walters Signs With The Neal Agency

Chandler Walters has signed with The Neal Agency for booking representation. He will join Josh Ross on his “Later Tonight Tour” at the top of next year, announced today.

“Chandler is an amazingly talented artist with a truly authentic sound, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him to the Neal family,” shares The Neal Agency Co-Head Adi Sharma.

“Chandler is an incredibly accomplished musician and artist who is a true student of country music. We’re excited to be working with him to bring his signature ‘Walters’ Western’ flair to live music fans across the globe,” adds agent Haley Teske of The Neal Agency.

A Grammy-nominated multi-instrumental singer-songwriter, Walters has had a whirlwind two years. He signed his publishing deal in 2024 with ERN’s Cadillac Music, which led to a Grammy, CMA and ACM nomination for his co-write on Post Malone’s five-times Platinum, all-genre No. 1 single “I Had Some Help (feat. Morgan Wallen).” He spent the spring and summer on Post Malone’s “The BIG ASS Stadium Tour” as an opener, member of Post’s band playing pedal steel and host of official after parties dubbed “Walters Western Road Show” in select cities.

Earlier this year, Walters made his artist debut on Cadillac Sessions where he released originals “Worth The Trouble” and “Whatever Happened To Us” alongside a cover of Vince Gill’s “One More Last Chance.” He’s working on more new music now.

Leo33 breakout artist Zach Top graces the cover of MusicRow’s 2025 Awards issue. The release highlights nominees across 16 categories, from Song of the Year to Entertainer of the Year, with winners set to be announced Sept. 3.

The SOURCE Hall of Fame Awards inducted six more “women behind the music,” including Lori Badgett, Cheryl Harris, Gina Keltner, Pam Russell, Mary Self and Kay West. The evening honored the honorees’ careers while also paying tribute to the late Jeannie Seely, a longtime co-host and cornerstone of the event.

Spotify has tapped Katie Studley as its new Head of Nashville Editorial. Studley most recently served as VP at The Orchard.

A major new imprint has emerged as MCA Nashville and Jessie Jo Dillon launch Gatsby Records, with rising country artist Carter Faith as the first signing. Her debut album Cherry Valley will arrive Oct. 3.

Meanwhile, Middle Tennessee State University has renamed its College of Media and Entertainment in honor of Scott Borchetta, solidifying the Big Machine Label Group founder’s legacy in education and innovation.

At the Academy of Country Music, Taylor Wolf has been promoted to Executive Director of ACM Lifting Lives, where she will expand fundraising initiatives and partnerships while overseeing philanthropic programs.

Owen Riegling has signed a U.S. deal with Big Loud Records in partnership with Universal Music Canada, while Emily Ann Roberts has inked with RECORDS/Sony Music Nashville. In publishing, Sony Music Publishing Nashville has signed emerging songwriter Aniston Pate, and Levi Hummon has joined Withrow Street Music and CTM Publishing. Additionally, Julia Cole has signed with Broke Records and management firm Neon Coast, marking the label’s first country signing.

Robby Johnson Inks With Symphonic, Drops New Single ‘You Pick The Flowers’

Robby Johnson has signed for distribution with Symphonic and Dirty Laundry Music for sync distribution. He just released his new single, “You Pick The Flowers,” on The Nashville Record Company.

The heartfelt mid-tempo ballad was inspired by a vision Johnson once held close but never got to live, and paints a tender picture of vows, rings and second chances.

“This song became my way of giving life to that vision,” Johnson shares. “Every lyric is part of the moment I always dreamed of.”

Johnson had been steadily releasing singles, including “TGIF,” “More Than You Think,” “Road I’m On” and his recent single “If Barstools Could Cry.” The Nashville-based singer-songwriter has already amassed over 10 million views on YouTube and is approaching eight million streams and counting.

Curb Records Releases Two ‘Reagan’ Film-Related Albums

Curb Records and Los Angeles-based production company MJM Entertainment have released two albums related to the 2024 film REAGAN. The REAGAN: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is out today (Aug. 29), with REAGAN: Songs Inspired by the Film arriving Sept. 26.

Mike Curb, Chairman of Curb Records, says, “We are thrilled to finally be able to release the soundtrack from the motion picture, Reagan. I know Ronald Reagan enjoyed music and particularly was always interested in the relationship between film and music. It is exciting to see a soundtrack album with such great artists as Bob Dylan, B.J. Thomas, Gene Simmons and many others. Mark Joseph has made an excellent film and soundtrack album, and Curb Records is proud to be a part of this great project.”

The project was produced by veteran music and film producer Mark Joseph alongside Vince Emmett, with Tim Cook serving as music supervisor for REAGAN: Songs Inspired By The Film. Joseph adds, “We were so pleased to have an eclectic and amazing group of artists come alongside the project. It was great to partner with Mike Curb and the Curb Records team to bring these collections out.”

The soundtrack features music heard in the film itself, including Bob Dylan performing “Don’t Fence Me In,” Gene Simmons “Stormy Weather,” and Clint Black “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Additional artists on the soundtrack include B.J. Thomas, Scott Stapp, MŌRIAH, Phil Keaggy, The Imaginaries, Robert Davi, Molly Jenson and Love, Lies & Fiction.

The companion album, REAGAN: Songs Inspired by the Film, includes artists Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, Tanya Tucker, Ricky Skaggs, Lee Greenwood, The Commodores, Kathie Lee Gifford and Claude Kelly, Gary Cherone, Alabama, Wayne Newton and Sweet Comfort Band.
