Caylee Hammack, King Calaway, Waterloo Revival Safe Following Gilroy, California Shootings

A shooter opened fire Sunday (July 28) at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California, located approximately 80 miles southeast of San Francisco. The incident resulted in four deaths, including the alleged shooter, and injuries to more than 15 others.

Caylee Hammack, King Calaway, and Waterloo Revival were among the artists who performed during the festival. All three acts performed earlier in the day on July 28, and had departed the event ground prior to the shootings. Each artist took to social media to assure fans of their safety, and to offer their condolences to those affected.

“WE ARE OKAY!” Hammack stated on Instagram. “We left right before all this must’ve happened and we are okay. @waterloorevival @kingcalaway and us all played today but we believe are all safe and away from the festival now. This makes me sick. There was so many smiling faces today, just enjoying the beautiful day together. My heart and prayers go out to the 11 injured. #gilroygarlicfestival”

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out. We’re all ok,” the members of King Calaway said via Twitter. “Sending out love to everyone at the Gilroy Garlic festival and the emergency services at the scene.”

“Thank you to everyone who has called and Text [sic], we are all okay and safe from the Garlic Festival shootings,” the members of Waterloo revival stated via Twitter. “Please pray for the victims and their families.”

The shooting occurred on the final day of the three-day festival, which attracts more than 100,000 people and includes food, cooking competitions and music performances. According to NBC News, six-year-old Steven Romero was among the victims of the shooting. Police also shot and killed a suspect who was carrying an assault-type rifle, and believe a second person may have been involved.

CBS News identified the shooter as 19-year-old Santino William Legan.

Brinn Black visited the MusicRow Magazine offices recently to perform her new single, “72’s,” which showcases the vulnerability in her storytelling and a voice imbued with warmth. The song finds her pining over a lover who seems more obsessed with his pack of Marlboro 72s than with her. The track follows her previous release, “Daddy’s Medicine.”

A longtime resident of Nashville, Black also formed the multi-day music retreat Lyrics On The Lake Songwriters Festival six years ago. The event has raised more than $100,000 for The Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals in Black’s home state of Virginia.

The Zac Brown Band has set Sept. 20 as the release date of their upcoming new studio album, The Owl, via BMG. A new digital single from the album, “Leaving Love Behind,” is out now and available across all streaming platforms.

Zac Brown Band is currently touring its summer 2019 “The Owl Tour,” in support of the upcoming new album. Both the tour and album title are inspired by the lore surrounding the great horned owl, which can see perfectly at night, making it a reliable guide even during dark times. The new project reveals a deeper side of the band as they explore new sounds through unexpected collaborations with producers and writers across different facets of the music world including Skrillex, Andrew Watt, Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd, Max Martin, Benny Blanco and Ryan Tedder, among others.

“We’ve been working tirelessly on this album over the past couple years, ensuring every detail is perfect,” said Zac Brown. “We are always pushing ourselves as musicians by blurring genre boundaries and incorporating all kinds of music we are personally inspired by, elevating what we are capable as a group. This album will have something for everyone…The Owl is exciting, raw, and unexpected. We couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished on this record and can’t wait to finally share it with the fans.”

The Owl follows the band’s 2017 studio album, Welcome Home, which won the British Country Music Association Award for International Album of the Year. A three-time Grammy-winning band, Zac Brown Band has sold more than 30 million singles, nine million albums, have achieved 15 No. 1 radio singles and is the second act in history to have topped both Country Airplay and Mainstream Rock Songs charts.
