George Jones Tribute Show Has One-Day-Only Showing In Theaters Today

The “Still Playin’ Possum: Music & Memories of George Jones” tribute concert event will premiere in a theater presentation for one day only today (Oct. 17) in association with Fathom Events.

The concert was filmed on April 25 in Huntsville, Alabama in front of a sold-out crowd at the Von Braun Center, with some of country’s biggest stars paying homage to the country legend. 10 years after his passing in 2013, music lovers can now witness the power of song as artists ranging from Jelly Roll (“Bartender’s Blues”), Brad Paisley (“He Stopped Loving Her Today”), Tanya Tucker (“The Grand Tour”), Dierks Bentley (“Why Baby Why”), Sam Moore (“Blues Man”), Travis Tritt (“The Race Is On”), Jamey Johnson (“Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes”) and more bring their interpretation of Jones’ hits to life on the big screen.

Tickets are on sale through the Fathom Events website and participating theater box offices. A complete list of theater locations are available at fathomevents.com.

“It is still hard to believe that George is gone. He was loved by so many artists and fans. We may not have him here in person, but we have his music to keep his memory alive,” says Nancy Jones. “Filming this night was something special. The love for George was overwhelming!”

Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton will perform in Texas at AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving Day for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show, during the matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders.

The Dallas Thanksgiving Day game, airing on CBS, has become the most-watched regular season game of the year, drawing 42 million viewers last year. Parton will perform her biggest hits as well as songs from her new Rockstar album, out Nov. 17. The Thanksgiving Day game marks the official start of one of the longest-running annual fundraisers of its kind that has been a Cowboys tradition for 27 years. The halftime show puts a national spotlight on the need of millions during the holiday season, rallying for donations to The Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettle Campaign, which began in 1891.

“Wow! What an honor to get to kick off The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign with the halftime show during the Dallas Cowboys game this Thanksgiving,” Parton shares. “Those Red Kettles have long been a symbol of hope for our friends and neighbors who are facing hard times. My goal is to encourage everyone who can to donate and support their neighbors in need. Every small act of generosity helps, and together, we can all love our neighbors this holiday season and beyond.”

“Dolly’s contagious energy and positive spirit are just what we need to support The Salvation Army’s enormous effort to make this holiday bright for millions of individuals and families in need,” adds Charlotte Jones, Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer for the Dallas Cowboys and former National Advisory Board Chairperson for The Salvation Army. “Dolly’s music has a way of inspiring hope, and we’re thrilled to have her on our national stage to spotlight the campaign this year.”

The Red Kettle Campaign is especially needed now to meet the increasing needs of millions of families living in the U.S. As the nation’s largest private provider of social services, The Salvation Army works to provide Christmas gifts, food, shelter and rent and utility assistance to millions of people struggling this holiday season and beyond. Funds raised in 2022 supported services for nearly 24 million people living in America.

Industry veterans Susan Nadler and Evelyn Shriver, who charmed audiences with their podcast Shady Ladies of Music City, are set to return with season three this fall. Ahead of its launch, the duo have signed with Morris Higham Management for representation.

Nadler and Shriver have worked behind the scenes building countless iconic artists and musicians’ careers, becoming legends on Music Row and beyond. The next season of Shady Ladies will focus on the state of the music industry today, including topics such as inclusivity, censorship and extremism. New episodes will be available weekly through the holidays beginning Nov. 10.

“We launched this podcast as a way to archive a lot of the stories about a town and industry we love,” shares Nadler. “Now that we’re out of the day-to-day, we can talk about it in a different way that illustrates a lot of how things used to be and perhaps even answer why they are the way they are today,” adds Shriver. “But without the filter—because we can,” Nadler interjects.

“Evelyn and Susan’s perspectives and stories are not just entertaining, they’re incredibly telling of how the country music industry got to the billion-dollar business it is today,” shares Morris Higham President, Clint Higham. “Our community, business and industry’s changing every day and it’s of upmost importance we all appreciate and respect its roots as we build on what their generation of leadership established.”

Johnny Cash Tour Bus On Display At The Ryman

Johnny Cash’s legendary tour bus, JC Unit One, is now on display to the public outside of Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

Guests can step inside and experience a piece of country music history during the venue’s tour hours. Access to JC Unit One is included with the purchase of a regular Ryman tour admission ticket.

Cash used the bus for the 1991 “Highwayman Tour” that transported Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson, and it traveled to Nashville from its permanent home at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. The bus’ journey to the Ryman is part of the venue’s partnership with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to showcase the Ryman’s significant rock and roll history.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with the Rock Hall and honored to have JC Unit One at the Ryman,” says Gary Levy, Ryman Auditorium General Manager. “Johnny Cash is a music icon with significant ties to this building. It was here that he graced the Grand Ole Opry stage for the first time, where he crossed paths with June Carter Cash and where the iconic ‘Johnny Cash Show’ found its home.”

In 2022, the Ryman was designated as an official Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Landmark and launched Rock Hall at the Ryman, a new exhibit in partnership with the Rock Hall.

“While the Ryman is known as the Mother Church of Country Music, the partnership and exhibit honors the 100+ Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, including Johnny Cash, who have performed on the Ryman’s hallowed stage throughout its 131-year history,” says Greg Harris, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame President & CEO.
