Concert Promoters Form Alliance

Three concert promoters have formed an alliance and opened offices on Music Row. Gary Weinberger, President of Red Mountain Entertainment (RME); Russell Doussan, President of Blue Deuce Entertainment (BDE); and Jim Green, President of Green Machine Concerts (GMC) have set up offices at 1028B 18th Ave. S., Nashville, Tennessee. They can be reached at 615-320-7800.

“Over the years [RME partner] John Ruffino, Russell Doussan, Jim Green, Jay Wilson, Jill Wheeler and I have developed many meaningful relationships with artists, managers and agents based in Nashville,” Weinberger said. “In order to maximize the services we provide to our clients, now seems the right time to have a more prominent presence in Nashville.“

Sandestin Festival To Benefit Gulf Wildlife

A cross-section of country and rock’s most acclaimed songwriters and performers will come together on Florida’s gulf coast during the weekend of August 13 and 14 for the inaugural Sandestin Music Festival. Sponsored by BMI, TrustCore, Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, The Village of Baytowne Wharf, Sunquest Cruises and Southwest Airlines, the festival is all about great  music for a great cause. Donations collected will support the National Audubon Society and its efforts to help the birds and other wildlife affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Legendary guitarist and songwriter Steve Cropper, contemporary country hitmakers Jeffrey Steele, Danny Myrick, Marty Dodson and James Slater, acclaimed guitarist/singer/songwriter Lee Roy Parnell, Grammy-winning bluesman Delbert McClinton, powerhouse vocalist Lari White, and up-and-comer Kree Harrison will perform with the 2,400-acre Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort serving as the backdrop.

Entry to the Sandestin Music Festival is free for the public with a printed ticket via www.sandestinmusicfestival.com. While there is no charge for admittance, festival organizers are asking for donations to benefit the National Audubon Society’s Gulf Coast efforts. Donations may be made online at www.sandestinmusicfestival.com or through $10 text donations during the event.

VIP Packages are available to the first 150 overnight guests to book accommodations at Sandestin Florida Beach Resort via www.sandestin.com for the Sandestin Music Festival Weekend. The VIP Package includes priority seating and a meet-and-greet with all the performers on the Solaris, the area’s only dining and entertainment yacht, after the show on Saturday. VIP pass holders also will receive a bag filled with one-of-a-kind memorabilia, including autographed CDs from participating artists, an autographed Sandestin Music Festival program and a photo with their favorite artist.

“We invite everyone to gather their families and join us for a wonderful weekend of top-shelf entertainment,” says John Russell, Sandestin resort chief and president of Sandestin Investments LLC. “These talented artists represent the best in the industry. We are so fortunate to have such an incredible line up of award-winning performers. This is the perfect way for us to cap the summer season.”

“BMI constantly seeks out new ways for our songwriters to connect with new audiences, and the first annual Sandestin Music Festival is an ideal opportunity,” says Jody Williams, BMI Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations. “Live music ensconced in the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort’s paradisiacal setting is a perfect way for fans to really get to know the masters behind the hits and to support worthwhile efforts on the Gulf Coast.”

Gwen Sebastian Hits the Road and the Charts

Recently singled out by Country Weekly magazine as an “artist to watch in 2010,” Open Road/Lofton Creek Records artist Gwen Sebastian is starting to see her dreams come true. Her new single, “V.I.P. (Barefoot Girl),” moves up from No. 37 to No. 33 on MusicRow’s CountryBreakout chart.

Raised in rural Hebron, North Dakota, and now living in Nashville while maintaining a heavy touring schedule, Sebastian can completely relate to “V.I.P. (Barefoot Girl),” which she wrote with Dean Miller (Terri Clark’s “A Little Gasoline” and Trace Adkins‘ “I’m Gonna Love You Anyway”) and Brian Eckert. When she sings, “I’m a barefoot girl walking in a high heel world,” she means it.

Sebastian and her band have a full schedule of summer tour dates with more than 30 shows in July and August. She’s also taking time to visit country radio stations along the way. She calls performing in front of a crowd “my favorite thing to do. That’s my outlet.”

“I want to make sure that everybody that comes out to see me has an experience, that they’re forgetting about everyday life,” Sebastian says. “When people are paying money to come see you, you have to make sure they’re getting something special. So I want to make sure they are part of the show, that each and every person feels like they are on stage with me, and that every song means something.”

Top Earners: Kenny Chesney And Toby Keith

L-R: Chesney, Keith

Forbes’ just released list of Top-Earning Musicians includes Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith from the country set. Chesney ranked No. 9 on the Top 10 list, by bringing in $50 million between June 2009 and June 2010. Like most of the other top money makers, a significant portion of his earnings came from the box office, where he raked in about $1.6 million per show, according to the magazine. He also scored with Mastercard and Corona sponsorships.

Keith came in at No. 10 with $48 million for the 12-month period. He too made big bucks on the road, as well as through his restaurant chain, and publishing royalties. Forbes asked his manager, T.K. Kimbrell, how serious is Keith about making money? Kimbrell’s answer: “You’d get a severe head injury dropping a nickel around him.”

Leading the superstar tally is U2, who netted an estimated $130 million, followed by AC/DC ($114 million), No. 3 Beyonce ($87 million), No. 4 Bruce Springsteen ($70 million) and No. 5 Britney Spears ($64 million). Full story here.

Live Nation Ticket Sales Slide, Stock Tumbles

Ticket sales for Live Nation’s top 100 tours slid 9 percent to $822 million in the first half of 2010, and the year’s second half isn’t looking much better, expected to fall as much as 15 percent. The entire touring industry has taken a 17 percent hit so far this year.

Live Nation gave the bad, but not unexpected, news to investors at a New York meeting yesterday (7/15), prompting an almost immediate reaction on Wall Street. LYV shares hit a low of 18 percent, and went on to close down 10.8 percent.

Live Nation Chief Executive Michael Rapino blamed the decline in ticket sales on a weak economy and also blamed the media for scaring artists out of touring.

According to the NY Post: Rapino interrupted the presentation saying, “We had a real buzz kill at about slide nine, when I saw the e-mails go out.” Slide nine showed data that had the two companies’ revenue flat between 2008 and 2009 at $5.5 billion and no data at all for 2010, a source told The Post.

Company Executive Chairman Irving Azoff, who appeared by video conference, said, “I’m hoping that what I’m seeing as all you guys e-mail back to your offices to dump the stock isn’t indicative of the fact we have a group of investors that are so shortsighted.”

Live Nation is also trying to get out of its agreement with TS Eventim, the ticketing software company it partnered with in 2007 in order to bring ticketing in house. The promoter is citing breach of contract, and TS Eventim denies the claim and says they intend to seek millions in damages.

The LA Times reports Live Nation’s future plans: Live Nation Entertainment promised that “dynamic pricing,” which would add numerous pricing tiers, would be more widely implemented in 2011.The company’s executives said they were months away from introducing a ticketing inventory system that can adjust prices in real time.

Think of the future of buying a concert ticket not too unlike that of buying an airline ticket, in which the price can go up or down in the days leading up to an event based solely on demand. Read more here.

Paisley Headlines Aquapalooza 2010

Brad Paisley took a short vacation from his H20 World Tour to party with fans at The Reserve at Lake Travis near Austin, TX on July 12 for Aquapalooza 2010. Official reports claim crowds of 65,000-70,000 plus over 7,000 boats that all arrived for the concert. Last year’s event was at Lake Martin, Alabama.

Paisley’s 2-hour show was staged at the water’s edge and included a 100 foot thrust perched on floats that enabled him to seemingly walk out into the lake and get closer to the numerous fans floating on boats, inner tubes and other devices. Other performers included Matt Stillwell, Jerrod Neimann, Lee Brice and Joanna Smith.
