Music Drives Honda's New Marketing Campaign

Screen shot 2014-06-11 at 2.40.15 PM1American Honda has partnered with Clear Channel Media and Entertainment (iHeartRadio), Live Nation, REVOLT, Vevo and YouTube to produce and distribute music content available under the new Honda Stage name, through dozens of live events and exclusive online content. The company estimates that millions will be spent on using music to reach more than 1 million younger consumers at more than 200 live events.
“Breaking through the clutter and reaching younger buyers through traditional advertising is proving more and more difficult in this always-on, digital generation,” said Tom Peyton, assistant vice president of Advertising and Marketing for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Honda is making an even bigger investment in music than ever before. To bring this type of experience to music lovers we had to assemble a program from scratch bringing together both live and online elements that can only be found through Honda Stage.”
Honda Stage will offer music fans access to custom online music programming and performances via a new YouTube channel.
Additionally, the Honda Stage at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles will offer a concert series to be promoted via Clear Channel radio stations. Additional custom Honda Stage concert events, produced by Live Nation, will be held throughout the U.S.
Honda Stage at REVOLT Studios Hollywood will deliver regular live interviews and in-studio performances, which will be broadcast via REVOLT TV, the iOS and Android REVOLT apps, and the Honda Stage YouTube channel.
“This just pencils out as a smart program due to the massive content distribution platforms. With an expected reach of billions of music fans, the Honda Stage program will reach potential customers far beyond traditional TV advertising,” said Peyton.
Initial artists included in the campaign are pop act American Authors, as well as alt-rockers GroupLove, and Portugal.

SAG-AFTRA, SoundExchange Team To Distribute Unclaimed Royalties

soundexchangeMedia and entertainment union SAG-AFTRA and SoundExchange, the independent organization that collects and distributes royalties for the streaming of sound recordings on digital radio, have teamed up. Together they identified SAG-AFTRA members who may have a cumulative $2.3 million in unclaimed royalties for the use of their recordings from 2,500+ digital radio services.
sag aftra logoSAG-AFTRA and SoundExchange conducted an extensive crosscheck between their two databases to identify nearly 2,000 union member performers who are potentially owed royalties. A large number of those identified as potentially having royalties collected by SoundExchange on their behalf include actors and comedians, who are likely unaware they are owed money. All members identified are receiving communications via U.S. mail and email alerting them to the waiting money, and directing them to SoundExchange’s simple (and free) online registration.
“While we are best known for our focus on music, SoundExchange also collects royalties for actors, comedians and spoken word recordings,” said SoundExchange President and CEO Michael Huppe. “The match with SAG-AFTRA allows SoundExchange to reach all of these important performers (both music and non-music) who are entitled to their share of royalties from streaming radio services.”

Audiam Expands To Music Services

audiamAudiam, which has long worked with YouTube, has expanded its reach to include many music services so that music publishers can find their copyrights being performed and received payments. Audiam is now on Spotify, Google Play, iTunes Match and more (see full list below).
Audiam’s proprietary music database technology finds and cross references all necessary music meta-data required by music services to identify and administer all earned and un-allocated royalties regardless of origin, format, or country.
Jeff Price CEO/Founder of Audiam says, “The trick to finding and collecting money in the new digital music industry is matching metadata points, database architecture and copyright law. The existing mess of missing and bad data has misallocated or stopped the payment of hundreds of millions of dollars owed to music publishers and artists. By fixing this problem, we are able to find, unlock and administer huge amounts of money our customers would otherwise not have gotten, all while removing liability for the new music services.”
Audiam was founded and is led by TuneCore founders Price, Peter Wells and former TuneCore CTO David Willen.
