Radio personality Bobby Bones has secured a deal to release his memoir, as announced by publisher Lynn Grady and Bones’ editor Carrie Thornton at Dey Street Books/HarperCollins.

Bones’ radio show The Bobby Bones Show can be heard each morning on iHeartMedia country radio stations, and through iHeartRadio’s digital service. In 2014, The Bobby Bones Show won its first Academy of Country Music Award.

The book addresses Bobby Bone’s (real name Bobby Estell) childhood, growing up as the son of a single, addicted mother and an absent father. He grew up in Mountain Pine, Ark., a lumber mill town with a population of under 800. He became the first in his family to graduate from college, and earned his first job in radio at age 17.

After taking the on-air name “Bobby Bones,” he built a career in radio, working in several cities including Little Rock, Ark., and Austin, Texas, before joining with iHeartMedia.

“I’m not a traditional country music guy,” says Bones, “but the music reflects where and how I grew up, and yes, you could say my life has been like a country song, full of highs and lows and some crazy stuff along the way. I aim to tell it from the front seat of this roller coaster ride.”

No release date or title for the memoir have been announced at this time.

Singer-songwriter Chris Janson has inked a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records through Warner Music Nashville. The Missouri native joins a label roster that includes artists Blake Shelton, Hunter Hayes, Brett Eldredge, Ashley Monroe, and more.

Janson recently notched a No. 1 on the iTunes country chart with his independent single “Buy Me A Boat,” after iHeartMedia radio talent Bobby Bones played the song on his morning show, which is aired on more than 80 radio stations. He has also partnered with CMT for the song’s music video.

The country singer-songwriter has opened for Florida Georgia Line, Merle Haggard, and Hank Williams, Jr. Janson co-wrote Tim McGraw’s single “Truck Yeah.”

“Artistry, passion and hard work are the driving force here at Warner Music Nashville and Chris Janson exemplifies those very qualities,” said WMN President and CEO John Esposito. “The guy played 16 hours a day at Tootsie’s for a year and he’s played the Opry almost a hundred times. Man, that’s dedication and playing for the love of the music. Our VP of A&R Cris Lacy has been championing and following his decade-long path in Nashville and we’re ecstatic to welcome such a unique talent to the WMN family.”

“I knew from the first meeting in Espo’s office with this team, that Warner Bros. is where I was going to be and I appreciated the passion and love that I felt from the building,” said Janson. “I couldn’t be any more excited, and genuinely thankful for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to a long career with Warner.”

iHeartMedia has now added Janson to its “On The Verge Artist” program. Through the program, “Buy Me A Boat” will air on 140 country radio stations for six weeks, beginning May 4. The program includes on-air exposure and significant digital and social support across iHeartMedia’s network.

“As soon as our country music programmers heard Chris Janson’s music, we knew he would be perfect for our ‘On The Verge Artist’ program,” said Clay Hunnicutt, Executive Vice President and General Manager of National Programming Platforms for iHeartMedia. “Discovering breakthrough artists like Janson and connecting them to new fans nationwide is what the ‘On The Verge Artist’ program is all about, and we know our country radio listeners will agree.”

Norway To Become First Country To Eliminate FM Radio Band

RadioTowerNorway has revealed that it will become the first country to turn off its FM radio band, beginning Jan. 11, 2017. It plans to stop transmission of the last FM signal in the country’s northern regions by Dec. 13, 2017.

According to a statement by the Norwegian government, the decision aims to save approximately $25 million (US) per year, and aid in facilitating a switch to digital radio.

The Norwegian government stated that the cost of using the FM network is eight times higher than using Digital Broadcasting (DAB) System, which is a standard of digital radio technology used throughout Europe.

“This is an important day for everyone who loves radio,” said Thor Gjermund Eriksen, head of public broadcasting network NRK, in a statement. “The minister’s decision allows us to concentrate our resources even more upon what is most important, namely to create high-quality and diverse radio content to our listeners.”

“Listeners will have access to more diverse and pluralistic radio content, and enjoy better sound quality and new functionality. Digitization will also greatly improve the emergency preparedness system, facilitate increased competition and offer new opportunities for innovation and development,” Minister of Culter Thorhild Widvey added. “Whereas the FM system only had space for five national channels, DAB already offers 22, and there is capacity for almost 20 more.”

Norway’s DAB system offers 22 national channels, compared to five on the FM band. Though Norway is the first to shut off its FM band, other countries in Europe and Southeast Asia are in the process of transitioning to DAB.
