Warner/Chappell Music and THiS Music have extended their worldwide co-publishing agreement with hit songwriter Marv Green.

One of Nashville’s most sought-after writers, Green has had his songs recorded by countless artists, including George Strait, Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Tim McGraw and Blake Shelton, among many others.

Green said, “I have had such a long, prolific history with my Warner/Chappell and THiS Music family. At this point, I can’t imagine working with anyone else. We’ve accomplished so much together, and we plan to do a whole lot more.”

Green scored his first hit in 1998 with Strait’s No. 1 song “True.” The following year Green hit his second No. 1 with Lonestar’s “Amazed,” which spent a record-breaking eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Chart and earned Green a number of accolades including BMI Song of the Year, BMI Songwriter of the Year, and ACM Song of the Year, as well as a Grammy nomination.

Other No. 1 hits of Green’s include “Wasted,” (Carrie Underwood), “It Just Comes Natural” (George Strait), “Consider Me Gone,” (Reba McEntire), “Who I Am With You” (Chris Young) and “Shotgun Rider,” recorded by Tim McGraw.

Green has also written a number of top five singles including “Proud Of The House We Built” (Brooks & Dunn), “Farmer’s Daughter” (Rodney Atkins), “Let’s Make Love” (Tim and Faith) and “Creepin’” (Eric Church).

Additional recordings include songs by Dierks Bentley, Dustin Lynch, Jewel, Billy Currington, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Bon Jovi, Mark Chesnutt, Jo Dee Messina, Lee Ann Womack, Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Brad Paisley and Joe Diffie.

John Ozier has been promoted to the position of Vice President, Nashville Creative for ole.

Over the past three years, Ozier has delivered on his mandate to build writer, development artist and catalog success at ole. During that time, Nashville has signed over a dozen writers including Jeremy Stover, Tony Martin, and Phil O’Donnell.

ole Nashville has also added artists including Tyler Farr, Jordan Davis, Josh Dorr, Adam Hambrick, Travis Denning, and Sam Grow in deals ranging from publishing to full development and upstreaming.

The company is equally active in Canada and has unique cross-border reach with a roster that includes Canadian-based country stars like Gord Bamford, George Canyon and Meghan Patrick.

Troy Tomlinson Accepts Belmont University Award Of Excellence

Publishing executive Troy Tomlinson was presented the 2016 Robert E. Mulloy Award of Excellence from Belmont University’s Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business on Tuesday (April 26).

Tomlinson is the President/CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville. He serves as the Chairman of the Tennessee Entertainment Commission and is on the boards of the Country Music Association, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Music City Music Council and Belmont University’s Board of Trustees.

The event was held at Belmont University’s Wedgewood Academic Center and was attended by Tomlinson’s industry peers, songwriters, Belmont faculty, friends and family. Curb College Dean, Doug Howard, presided over the event.

Howard commented, “Troy has worked with an unmatchable list of legendary songwriters, recording artists and music executives throughout his three-decade career on Nashville’s Music Row. His rise to the top is a product of hard work, great musical instincts and his universal reputation for serving the business community with honesty and integrity.”

Longtime music executive Jerry Bradley and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame songwriter Tom Douglas shared stories related to Tomlinson’s career and their experiences with him. Also included were video tributes by a number of Tomlinson’s songwriters including Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Brett Eldredge,Taylor Swift and Cole Swindell.

Tomlinson accepted the award by paying tribute to his many mentors from the past 30 years.

Tomlinson remarked, “Bob Mulloy loved songwriters, artists, musicians, engineers, producers and Belmont University. To receive an award named for him brings me great pleasure. I appreciate Dr. Fisher, Dean Howard and the entire Belmont team for their desire to equip and prepare young people for careers in the entertainment industry. Nashville is a better music center because of Belmont’s presence here.”

ASCAP Revenue Topped $1 Billion in 2015

ASCAP reports that for the second year, its combined domestic and foreign revenue topped $1 billion, with total 2015 revenue of $1.014 billion.

Domestic revenue topped $716.8 million (a $61 million increase from 2014), with $867.4 million in total royalty distributions. ASCAP reports that it returned 88 cents of every dollar collected to music creators, with an operating expense ratio of 12.3 percent. ASCAP tracked, matched and processed 570 billion performances in 2015, an increase of 14 percent over 2014.

The PRO saw growth in several areas. General Licensing, which covers bars, restaurants, music venues, and similar businesses, garnered $11 million, with growth of 9.1 percent. In the Audio/Visual category, which covers broadcast and cable TV as well as top streaming services like Amazon and Netflix, ASCAP closed 68 agreements representing 245 programming services and their related websites.

Additionally, ASCAP created a new Global Services Team in 2015 to offer services to its music creator and publisher members as well as to its foreign PRO partners, which annually handled over 70,000 inquiries.

According to ASCAP, the company has more than 10 million song in its database, as well as a total of 560,000 songwriter, composer, and publisher members. Nearly 40,000 members joined in 2015, including Kelsea Ballerini and Fetty Wap.

Among the creators renewing their memberships are Ashley Gorley, Kevin Kadish, Meghan Trainor, Calvin Harris, and more.

The Love Junkies Play New Songs, Introduce Alyssa Micaela

Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose played a handful of new tunes prior to a showcase for Alyssa Micaela, a budding artist/songwriter, on Wednesday night (April 27). The award-winning trio performed three songs at The Country, a new venue near Centennial Park, before bringing Micaela (a writer for Liz Rose Music and Warner/Chappell Music) to the stage. Numerous A&R label executives, PRO representatives and publishing company personnel could be spotted in the crowd.

Lindsey, McKenna and Rose are collectively known as The Love Junkies. They traded lines on their new collaborative compositions “Like Patsy Would” and “Think Like a Man,” then concluded their set with their signature hit, “Girl Crush.”

Leading up to the show, the three songwriters posed with MusicRow Challenge Coins, presented for writing “Girl Crush.” Starting in 2014, every artist and songwriter with a No. 1 single on the MusicRow CountryBreakout Chart receives a coin. Last June, “Girl Crush” was named Song of the Year at the 2015 MusicRow Awards, leading the way for even more recognition, including ACM nominations, and CMA and Grammy Awards.

Alyssa Micaela coverMeanwhile, Rose has been a longtime supporter of Micaela, a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Odessa, Texas. Dressed in a vintage Patty Loveless T-shirt, she opened the set with a sassy number titled “Truck Bed.” Her single “Getaway Car” has generated more than 1.6 milion streams on Spotify, due to inclusion on Spotify’s Hot Country, New Boots and Wild Country playlists. She co-wrote the song with Derrick Southerland and Jesse Walker. She also incorporates her Hispanic heritage into her music, offering a bilingual rendition of Roy Orbison’s “Crying.”

Rose personally introduced Micaela to the stage, noting that she thinks of the young talent as her own daughter. They have worked together closely for the last seven years. Micaela is managed by Pete Olson at Master Craft Management.

Songwriters Michael Tyler and Jaron Boyer collected MusicRow Challenge Coins this week as co-writers of Dierks Bentley’s No. 1 hit, “Somewhere on a Beach.” The song topped the MusicRow CountryBreakout Chart on Thursday (April 21).

Since 2014, every artist and songwriter who achieves a No. 1 song on the chart is rewarded with a coin.

Boyer and Tyler wrote “Somewhere on a Beach” with Alexander Palmer, Dave Kuncio, and Josh Mirenda. It’s the lead single from Bentley’s upcoming album, Black, scheduled for release on May 27.

In addition, Tyler is working on his first album for Reviver Records, following the announcement of a recording contract in February. He is managed by Michael Knox, a producer and VP of peermusic Nashville.

Spirit Fluid, the Nashville-based joint venture between Spirit Music Group and Frank Rogers’ Fluid Music Revolution, has announced its first signing, inking a publishing agreement with songwriter and producer Ryan Creamer.

“We are thrilled to have Ryan Creamer join the Spirit Fluid family. He is an extremely talented songwriter and producer with a unique musical perspective. The sky is the limit for Ryan and we are excited to be a part of his musical journey,” said Rogers.

“I’m beyond excited to be part of the Spirit/Fluid team. I’ve never met a group that shares so precisely my own vision and passion for music. Going to work everyday alongside guys like Frank is something that I can’t put a dollar value on. Having a publisher that has reached the levels that I want for myself, both as producer and songwriter, is truly inspiring. I couldn’t have asked for a better songwriting home,” said Creamer.

Creamer’s credits include serving as an engineer on Firekid’s 2015 self-titled debut album. The Ohio native joined the Air National Guard and served two years of active duty during Operation Enduring Freedom. During that deployment, he began writing songs.

Spirit Fluid was formed as part of Spirit Music Group’s continuing focus on and investment in country music publishing. In addition to establishing Spirit Fluid, Spirit Music Group’s deal with Rogers also included the acquisition of Rogers’ one-third interest in certain copyrights of Nashville indie publisher Sea Gayle Music, which Rogers co-founded with Chris DuBois and Brad Paisley in 1999.

BMI Hosts Songwriter Retreat For 10 Belmont Students

BMI hosted a three-day intensive songwriters retreat for 10 Belmont University students at the Sony/ATV Firehall.

Students of all grade levels joined for collaborations and writing groups at the retreat, which was held April 22-24. The students were able to record demos of their new tracks to send to publishers and management.

Carlin Nashville hosted a private dinner and showcase for film, TV and ad executives during the Nashville Film Festival on Friday night (April 22).

Music supervisors were treated to brand new songs from Carlin Nashville songwriter and rock artist Blaire Alise & The Bombshells. The sponsored event featured an energetic, intimate performance followed by an outdoor dinner party at East Nashville’s Rumours East.

Kendall Lettow Joins MV2 Entertainment

MV2 Entertainment has announced the hiring of Kendall Lettow as Creative Director. In the new role, she will pursue publishing, artist development, and TV/film placements for the company.

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Lettow studied music business at MTSU and interned at Big Loud Shirt publishing company in 2011. She landed her first job at Kobalt Music as a creative assistant that same year, followed by career stops at Still Working Music and ThiS Music.

Songwriters on the MV2 roster are Jay Allen, Bart Allmand, Robert Arthur, David Fanning, Terry McBride, Mark and Cherie Oakley and Nora Collins.

“I am truly excited to have Kendall here at MV2. Her creative drive and passion for music make her a perfect fit for our team,” said MV2 Entertainment General Manager Tony Harrell.
