Bob DiPiero Joins Kobalt Music Publishing

Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Bob DiPiero has joined Kobalt Music Publishing, under a worldwide administration agreement in which Kobalt will administer and provide global creative services for DiPiero’s current and future works.

Pop stars Meghan Trainor, Ariana Grande and Who Is Fancy performed one of DiPiero’ cuts, “Boys Like You,” Monday night (Nov. 21) on Dancing With The Stars. The single was co-written by DiPiero, Jason Gantt, and artist Fancy.

“I am so excited to write this new chapter of my career with the 21st century cutting-edge of Kobalt,” DiPiero said. “The cash flow transparency that Kobalt offers to a songwriter is unparalleled in our industry. No black boxes here. I am also a big fan of the powerful ladies at Kobalt Nashville. Whitney Daane is a warrior for songwriters. DiPiero has had more than 1,000 of his songs recorded. He has penned a No. 1 country single in each of the past four decades, beginning with 1983’s “American Made,” recorded by The Oak Ridge Boys. He has amassed 15 No. 1 hits, and is an inductee in the Nashville Walk of Fame.

Among his other awards are 50 BMI “Million-Air” Awards, multiple Songwriter of the Year awards and two consecutive Triple Play awards for three No. 1 songs within a 12-month period. DiPiero is the originator of the CMA Songwriters Series and has served as its host for 10 years, bringing Nashville’s songwriters and artists throughout the United States and overseas to Belfast, Dublin, London and Paris. Most recently, the CMA presented DiPiero with their CMA Chairman’s Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the music industry and songwriting community.

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has signed Brad Rempel, of country duo High Valley, to a publishing agreement. Atlantic Records/WMN recently signed the duo to a record deal.

High Valley is comprised of Brad and his brother, Curtis. High Valley released an album titled County Line on Canadian label Open Road in 2014. They won the Canadian CMA Award for Group or Duo of the Year in 2015.

StubHub and The Mr.Holland’s Opus Foundation surprised nearly 600 students and staff of Nashville’s Hunters Lane High School with an instrument donation valued at $39,000 along with a special performance by country artist, Michael Ray.

Allie Louise (Sixth Beat Productions), is setting the stage for the release of her self-titled debut EP. The sixteen-year-old launched her first radio tour and set out on its first leg to introduce her current single, “Perfect Storm,” from the six-song project, due in mid-January with producers Eddie Gore, John Jaszez and Doug Kahan.

Music Row publisher group The Turks provided Turkeys for Nashville Rescue Mission holiday meals last week (Nov. 20) after a news story reported they were still in need of 1,000 Thanksgiving turkeys.

CMHoF Seeks Donations in #GivingTuesday

On Dec. 1, The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum (CMHoF) will seek donations as part of the global #GivingTuesday, an annual day of giving the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Donations are aimed at helping Fund for Youth Education, offering hundreds of music education programs throughout the year for students, locally and across the globe, including Words & Music and activities in the Taylor Swift Education Center.

Gifts of $25 and above help to provide the following opportunities:

$25: Strings for education program guitars
$50: Hands-on activities for fifty students who visit the museum
$125: Words & Music program via videoconference technology
$250: Bus transportation for seventy students
$500: Banjo or mandolin for educational programs
$1,000: Student art installation in the Taylor Swift Education Center
$2,500: Lesson guides for three hundred teachers

NMPA Honors Top Songwriters at California Event

The National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) held a songwriter showcase last week at West Hollywood’s The Sayers Club with songwriter Justin Tranter (Kelly Clarkson “Nostalgic,”, Justin Bieber “Sorry,” Selena Gomez “Good for You”), Lisa Loeb (“Stay (I Missed You),””) and Ilsey Juber (Mariah Carey “Infinity,” Pitbull “Fireball”).

NMPA Multi Platinum Awards were presented to Tranter for “Centuries” (Fall Out Boy) and “Good for You.” Loeb received an NMPA Gold Songwriting Award for her 1994 mega-hit.

Centricity Music has announced the signing of Christian group, JJ Weeks Band to its artist roster. The group’s seventh album is being produced by Jonathan Smith (Tim Timmons, Mia Fieldes) and will release early April 2016, with the first single going for adds at radio in February. The Macon, Georgia-based band is comprised of lead singer/songwriter JJ Weeks, bassist David Hart, drummer Jon Poole and guitarist Cody Preston.

The group’s 2013 produced the No. 9 song “Let Them See You,” on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart and remained on Billboard’s National Audience Chart for 29 weeks. The seasoned musicians have built a loyal following of fans for 12 years, touring over 120 dates a year.

ole has signed an exclusive administration agreement with the publishing arm of Reviver Records, LLC.

“Reviver Records is an exciting new name in the Nashville scene, and ole is looking forward to providing increased exposure and wide-ranging opportunities for their roster of artists,” said John Ozier, GM of Nashville Creative at ole. “With ole’s world-class publishing resources and expert, well-connected staff behind them, there’s no telling how high Reviver’s artists can climb both in Nashville and around the globe.”

“After opening our Nashville office in December 2014, we met the folks at ole and were extremely impressed with the work they do on behalf of their songwriters on Music Row and throughout the world,” said David Ross, President and CEO of Reviver Records. “We know that they will work tirelessly on behalf of our artists and are excited to see what we can accomplish together.”

Reviver was founded by Ross, who has worked with SonyBMG Music Worldwide Entertainment, the TJ Martell Foundation, CMJ, Alpha Distributors, and his own S*Management. Reviver Publishing, based in New Jersey under Reviver Records, LLC, a production and management company, has recently found a second home in Nashville, Tennessee.

Reviver Records has featured acts such as Jeff Daniels, Lee Ann Womack, Phil Vassar, Ricky Skaggs, SHeDAISY, Steel Magnolia, Steve Earle, Will Hoge, and many more. Creek Valley Music, a division of Kent Wells Productions, has signed songwriter Sarah Beth Terry to an exclusive global publishing agreement.

“Sarah Beth is one of the most gifted and prolific songwriters I’ve ever worked with – we’re very excited about having her as part of our team,” said Creek Valley Music owner and hit producer Kent Wells.

Terry was born and raised in Irvine, Kentucky, where she started writing songs at 12 years old. She relocated to Nashville after graduating from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, with a Bachelors in Music Education. In 2010, Terry relocated to Fort Polk, Louisiana, with her husband and, in 2013, opened Queen Bee & Co. Music Studio, a teaching studio specializing in guitar, piano, bass, drums, voice and songwriting instruction. She now splits her time between her homes in Louisiana, Nashville, and Milan, Italy.

“I’m honored to be working with the caliber of talent that is Kent Wells,” said Terry. “I’ve always felt right at home in Nashville and I’m thankful my songs now have such a great home at Creek Valley Music.”

Wells is known for his production work with Dolly Parton, and he has served as musical director for her recent tours. Wells has also toured and recorded with Reba, Kenny Rogers, Keith Whitley and the Oak Ridge Boys.

BMI Songwriter Kinky Friedman Celebrates ‘The Loneliest Man I Ever Met’

In celebration of BMI songwriter Kinky Friedman’s new album, The Loneliest Man I Ever Met, the Texas outlaw gave a special performance of select songs to his friends and music industry colleagues.

Heralding Friedman’s first album in more than 30 years, BMI’s Nashville office turned into a site of celebration this month as Friedman joked with the audience, gave thanks to those that had a hand in the album and played tracks from the new record.

The project has already received positive press from No Depression, Rolling Stone and The Wall Street Journal. Friedman has events scheduled through December, for those wanting to catch the legend’s live show.

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) has signed an exclusive, global publishing deal with songwriter/artist Paul DiGiovanni.

“Paul’s extensive history of commercial success in pop/rock has allowed him to bring such a fresh perspective and an ear for a hit to his country music songwriting. The demos and tracks he’s producing are dynamic and exciting to both the A&R and songwriting community, as well,” said Executive VP/GM of UMPG Nashville, Kent Earls. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to our Universal Music Publishing family.”

Before transitioning into a full-time country songwriter/producer based out of Nashville, DiGiovanni spent nine years in Columbia Records pop/rock group Boys Like Girls, which sold over 1 million albums and over seven million digital singles. The band had six consecutive charting Top 40 radio singles (“Two Is Better Than One” feat. Taylor Swift, “Love Drunk,” “The Great Escape,” “Hero/Heroine,” “Thunder,” and “Heart Heart Heartbreak”) and multiple platinum singles. The band performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live, ABC’s The View, CBS’ Early Show, and MTV’s New Years Eve, and toured with such artists as Avril Lavigne, Butch Walker, and The All-American Rejects.

CMA Songwriters Series Wraps 11th Season in NYC with DeStefano, Gorley, Jenkins, Satcher

The CMA Songwriters Series will wrap its 11th season in New York City at Joe’s Pub for four shows held Friday, Dec. 11 and Saturday, Dec. 12 (6:30 p.m. ET and 9:00 p.m. ET each night). Featured songwriters include Chris DeStefano, Ashley Gorley, Matt Jenkins, and Leslie Satcher.

“The continued growth and popularity of the series this year has been very rewarding,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “CMA is very proud to shine a national and international spotlight on the art of songwriting and our outstanding songwriter community.”

DeStefano has penned hit singles for Luke Bryan (“Kick the Dust Up” and “That’s My Kind of Night”), Chris Young (“Aw Naw”), and Carrie Underwood (“Good Girl,” “Little Toy Guns,” and “Something in the Water”). He also co-wrote and produced Brett Eldredge’s No. 1 single “Don’t Ya.”

Gorley is a CMA Triple Play Award recipient for penning three No. 1s in a 12-month period. He is behind hits from artists including Trace Adkins (“You’re Gonna Miss This”), Jason Aldean (“Just Getting Started,” “Tonight Looks Good on You”), and Brad Paisley (“American Saturday Night,” “Start a Band,” “Then”).

Jenkins has penned hits for artists including Dierks Bentley, Florida Georgia Line, Sam Hunt, and Blake Shelton. He co-wrote Dustin Lynch’s No. 1 single “Where It’s At,” Keith Urban’s Top 10 “Cop Car,” and “Fade Into You” from ABC’s Nashville.

Satcher’s songs have been recorded by such artists as George Jones (“What Would Waylon Do?”), Patty Loveless (“Everything But The Words”), George Strait (“High-Tone Woman,” “Troubadour”), Jim Lauderdale (“What’s On My Mind”), Merle Haggard (“Politically Uncorrect”), and Bonnie Raitt (“You Remain”).

Nashville’s Demolition Music Publishing is proud to announce the signing of songwriter Megan Conner.

Magic Mustang Music has signed ASCAP songwriter Taylor Davis to its publishing roster.

A native of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Davis has been in Nashville for the past few years honing his songwriting craft.

“The moment I heard his music, I knew I wanted to sign Taylor,” says VP Publishing for Magic Mustang Music, Juli Newton-Griffith. “His vocal and unique songwriting instantly stood out to me.”

“I’m very blessed and excited to join Magic Mustang Music and to be part of the BBR Music Group family,” says Davis. “Songwriting is my passion, and I can’t wait to get to work!”
