Wyatt Flores Celebrates ‘Scared Of Heights’ Release At Skinny Dennis [Recap]

Wyatt Flores celebrated the release of his sophomore album, Scared of Heights, with an intimate, sold-out album release show at Skinny Dennis in Nashville on Sunday (Aug. 2), giving fans an up-close look at the personal collection. The free pop-up performance was one of only four album release shows Flores announced to mark the new project.

Backed by his band in the packed East Nashville venue, Flores opened with the album’s first track, “Hate Myself,” immediately setting the vulnerable tone that runs throughout the album. He rolled seamlessly into “Drive All Night” before continuing with “Sober For A Month,” “Not Good Enough” and “How To Let Me Go,” as the crowd enthusiastically sang along to every word.

The Oklahoma native kept the momentum going with “Half The Man,” one of the project’s early fan favorites, before delivering “God Forgives” and “The Way I Do.” He followed with “South Dakota,” then welcomed fellow singer-songwriter Evan Honer to the stage for a performance of their collaboration, “Take Me As I Come,” earning one of the afternoon’s biggest reactions.

Flores returned to the new album with the title track, “Scared Of Heights,” before slowing things down for the reflective “Sleepless Lullaby.” He picked the energy back up with “Runnin’ On E” and “Tulsa and Eleanor,” both met with loud singalongs from the standing-room-only crowd.

Before closing the set, Flores paid tribute to fellow Oklahoma favorites the Turnpike Troubadours with a heartfelt cover of “The Bird Hunters,” bringing the intimate celebration to a fitting close.
