George Strait was recognized last Friday, Oct. 25, at the Medal of Honor Convention’s Patriot Award Gala with the Bob Hope Award for Excellence in Entertainment, which honors entertainers who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the U.S. military through film, literature or music.

The Bob Hope Award was established in 2003 by President George W. Bush, in commemoration of Hope’s 100th birthday. Past recipients of the Bob Hope Award for Excellence in Entertainment include Tom Selleck, Jon Voight, Trace Adkins, Billy Ray Cyrus, the Oak Ridge Boys, and more.

Strait’s ninth annual Vaqueros del Mar golf tournament and benefit concert, which Strait hosted alongside friend and businessman Tom Cusick from Oct. 20-23 at the Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort in Boerne, Texas, raised $2.2 million for the Feherty’s Troops First Foundation which benefits wounded military service men and women. In addition to Strait, performers during the event included Ray Benson & Asleep at the Wheel, Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser, Wade Bowen, Randy Rogers and Sailor Jerry.
