Country Radio Broadcasters Accepting Applications For $25,000 Scholarship Endowment
/by Jessica NicholsonThe Country Radio Broadcasters, Inc. (CRB) is now accepting applications for a scholarship endowment, which will be awarded to one deserving college or university for the 2018-2019 school year. Eligibility for the endowment includes: college or university accreditation; must have a TV/Film/Radio or Music Business program; the school must be responsible for managing endowment, selecting deserving students to receive scholarships, etc.; and application form must be submitted by Sept. 5, 2018.
Interested parties who meet the requirements can apply at countryradioseminar.com.
“CRB has a fabulous history of granting scholarships to students in our industry. We are continuing that tradition and have made plans to expand our scholarship program into other areas that we are very proud of. More to come on that later,” says Bill Mayne, Executive Director of CRB/CRS.
A CRB scholarship committee has been assembled to oversee the vetting of applications. Upon determining if a school or university qualifies for the endowment, a representative will be in touch to gather additional information surrounding the school’s qualifying program (radio/TV/film/music business) to verify that requirements are met and to help further the committee’s review and decision-making process.
Past recipients of the CRB endowment scholarship include Belmont University, Middle Tennessee State University, Texas A&M University, Central Michigan University, University of North Texas, Green River College, and more.

Music City Roots Halts Production After Nashville Deal Falls Through
/by Jessica NicholsonMusic City Roots, a popular Americana-centric musical variety show, has halted production after previously-announced plans for a downtown Nashville venue partnership have fallen through. The show had planned to move its production into a dedicated facility at the 6th & Peabody development in Nashville’s SoBro area, with plans to open in late 2018. The space would have also included a broadcast suite for WMOT Roots radio.
“We deeply appreciate the team behind the new 6th & Peabody project working hard to finalize a win-win situation with us, but unforeseen complexities have made it impossible to present MCR there as we’d hoped,” a statement from the Music City Roots team read.
Organizers expect the halt in Music City Roots’ production, as well as its distribution to radio affiliates, will be short-term, as they make new arrangements. The pause at Music City Roots does not affect WMOT Roots Radio, which is operated by Middle Tennessee State University.
“Our dream, and our plan, is to develop a free-standing home in Nashville where we can continue to be the signature radio and public television presenter of authentic roots and Americana music from Music City,” the statement continued. “The company is healthy and our team is as passionate as ever about our mission. To the tens of thousands of fans who’ve visited our show or watched our worldwide webcast or YouTube channel—and to the hundreds of artists who’ve made countless magic moments—we say thank you. We love you. And we’ll be back.”
Music City Roots left its home at the Loveless Barn in 2014, relocating to Liberty Hall inside The Factory at Franklin. The final Music City Roots show at The Factory in Franklin came in late 2017. Music City Roots began broadcasting on WSM 650-AM in 2009, before growing in syndication on other stations. It would later be streamed online and add shows on PBS Stations.

Luke Bryan’s Six-Floor Entertainment Complex To Open This Month In Nashville
/by Jessica NicholsonMore details have emerged regarding the previously announced new food and entertainment complex that Luke Bryan and TC Restaurant Group are planning for downtown Nashville.
Dubbed Luke’s 32 Bridge Food + Drink, the 30,000-square-foot complex at 301 Broadway will feature six levels of entertainment space with eight bars, including Broadway’s only multi-level rooftop bars with sushi menu, four stages of live music and two restaurants. The facility, in partnership with TC Restaurant Group, is scheduled to open this month.
The venue’s name was inspired by Bryan’s childhood home near Route 32 Bridge in Lee County, Georgia and is housed in Nashville’s iconic American National Bank Building.
“When I first moved to Nashville I played several of the bars on the ionic Broadway Street,” Bryan said. “I never would have dreamt that I would one day be a part of a place that could offer the same dream to others. Because of Music City and the fans all across the country, the reality of this amazing venue has become possible.”
Visitors to Luke’s 32 Bridge Food + Drink rooftop Sushi Bar will feature offerings from Chef Nick Phrommala. Chef Tomasz Wosiak helms the Luke’s 32 Bridge Food + Drink signature restaurant where he has created a menu inspired by some of Luke’s favorites with special twists on Southern and American cuisine. Offerings will include Hometown Pulled Pork with Kettle BBQ chips, Black & Blue Salmon Salad, Nashville Hot Chicken to Luke’s Elk Burger with Red Dragon Cheese. Burger fans are set-to-go with the Farmers Burger, featuring locally-sourced, all natural beef with over easy egg, maple bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and signature sauce. Other go-to dishes include Beet Mixed Green Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette & hand-tossed oven-baked margarita and pepperoni pizza.
Luke’s 32 Bridge Food + Drink will offer one-of-a-kind drinks including some of Luke’s personal choices like “Backstage” (vodka, grapefruit, with or without salt), “Play It Again” (cherries, vanilla bourbon, lemon juice, sugar), “Luke’s Old Fashioned” (muddled cherries and oranges, cubed sugar and bitters, ice, whiskey and water), plus more.
