ASCAP, Logan’s Partner To Support Emerging Artists With Nationwide Tour

ASCAP LOGANS 3

Logan’s Roadhouse CEO Sam Borgese, Jerrod Niemann and ASCAP President and Chairman of the Board Paul Williams.

Logan’s Roadhouse and ASCAP are teaming for the Music City Live! tour, kicking off in early summer 2016 as a way to boost emerging singer-songwriters. Sea Gayle Music/Arista Nashville recording artist and ASCAP member Jerrod Niemann will be the official spokesperson and mentor to artists on the tour. He performed at today’s press event at Logan’s in Nashville, where the tour was announced by ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams and Logan’s Roadhouse CEO Sam Borgese.

The Music City Live! tour will visit Logan’s locations nationwide and is part of a larger collaboration between the restaurant company and ASCAP to promote the careers of aspiring songwriter-artists, support music education and more.

On Oct. 1, the Logan’s Roadhouse Cool Springs in Franklin, Tenn. will host the restaurant’s first live music showcase featuring emerging artist Chris Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh and Sarahbeth Taite also performed at today’s event.

The yet-to-be-announced performers on the upcoming tour will board three Logan’s Roadhouse/ASCAP-branded tour buses and travel to numerous Logan’s Roadhouse locations. Customers will have the opportunity to interact with artists through meet-and-greets, philanthropic events and more. Niemann will appear at select Logan’s Roadhouses to meet fans and participate in local programs that support music education in schools. The emerging artists featured on the tour will be added to ASCAP-curated playlists at all 230 Logan’s Roadhouse locations in October.

Williams and Borgese noted that it will create income for emerging artists while allowing them to practice their crafts in a friendly environment. “You learn by doing…. In those ‘gulp’ moments before you get on stage,” said Williams. They also saluted ASCAP’s licensing department for coming up with the idea.

“ASCAP’s mission is to make it possible for our members’ music to reach as many music lovers as it can,” said Williams. “To do that we need partners who are as passionate about music as we are. That’s why we are thrilled to join forces with Logan’s Roadhouse to promote some of Nashville’s emerging and most gifted songwriters.”

Niemann said, “I grew up playing in places like Logan’s Roadhouse and there’s not a better place to get the right start. All any artist can ask for is a fair chance to have their music heard.” In fact, when the singer first met his wife, she was working at the Logan’s where today’s event was held. In her honor he performed “What Do You Want?” and followed up with current single “Blue Bandana.”

Borgese said, “We believe that great music comes from emerging artists. We feel they should have a venue that helps support them so that they can continue to tell the stories of life through their music. This tour will give these artists exposure and connect with the Logan’s Roadhouse customers all over America from small towns to big cities.”

Kenny Chesney Preps 2016 with Lambert, Hunt, Old Dominion

KennySummer16

Less than three weeks after Kenny Chesney wrapped his highest-grossing tour ever ($114 million, reports Billboard), he is already making plans for next summer.

Chesney has tapped Miranda Lambert, Sam Hunt, and Old Dominion to join him on tour dates for 2016.

“Miranda is the real deal,” Chesney says. “She’s a songwriter, first, and a real vocalist. She’s put it all out there when she’s on stage, and I loved touring with her so much in 2009, I can’t believe it’s taken us this long to get her back out here – because I love every single thing about who she is as an artist and a person.

“The second I heard Sam’s demo for ‘Come Over,’ I knew he was onto something very unique,” continues Chesney, who cut the Hunt-written song. “Watching him develop as an artist, seeing his songwriting evolve – and knowing how he brings it when he gets onstage makes him a perfect act to come out with us. He’s fun, alive and all about the music.

“Old Dominion had a tough job this summer, and they got it done,” Chesney concludes. “They’re hit songwriters, but they’re also guys who’ve played in a lot of clubs – and know how to connect with people. I mean, not only are their songs solid, they’re great guys.”

Dates have not yet been announced.

Jason Fowler

Singer-songwriter Jason Fowler, who went from rising artist to being homeless to fighting, has Elite Talent Agency of Nashville. Jason has an amazing story of rise, fall and redemption. We consider it our job as agents to provide a platform for artists to communicate their story; and Jason has an amazing, compelling story of redemption that people need to hear,” said Elite President Mark Claassen. “We look forward to helping him bring that to the world on a greater scale.”

“I am excited to sign with Elite Talent Agency! If You Book It They Will Come—Kevin Griffin Talks Pilgrimage Festival

Pilgrimage Fest logoIf you build it they will come.

Or in the case of music festivals, if you book it they will come.

When launching the inaugural Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival in Franklin, Tenn., hit songwriter/artist Kevin Griffin and his two business partners knew that a stellar line-up was the key to success.

The three men have their own areas of expertise—Griffin leads longtime band Better Than Ezra and is co-writer of big hits by Sugarland and Howie Day, Michael Whelan is an established businessman, and Brandt Wood owns notable Dallas clubs and music venues—but none had experience recruiting a slate of top artists for a two-day festival.

“We couldn’t afford a learning curve,” says Griffin. “Booking a festival is an artform. So we looked at some of our favorite festivals and who booked them. One that stuck out was the Newport Folk Festival. So we reached out to its booker, Jay Sweet. He loved the idea and helped us curate this festival. For talent bookers, it’s really based on his relationships with the bands and knowing what bands like playing onstage with other bands, and what bands attract other artists. There’s a big challenge with a new festival. Everybody wants to know who is playing and when you don’t have anybody committed yet, that’s hard. One of the first to commit was Willie Nelson. That was by design, because we knew once we got Willie on board, other bands [would follow]. Then we got Dawes, Band of Horses, The Decemberists. Slowly we started building a story.”

What a story. The line up also includes Wilco, Weezer, Sheryl Crow, Steven Tyler, Cage The Elephant, Dr. John, Holly Williams, Will Hoge, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Chris Stapleton, The Lone Bellow, Nikki Lane, John & Jacob and too many others to list.

Griffin, who moved to Franklin with his family almost five years ago, was inspired to start the festival while running in his adopted hometown. “In December 2013 I took a run out to Harlinsdale Farm across from The Factory in Franklin, and I was struck by the beauty of the surroundings and rolling hills and natural amphitheaters. I ran back home and told my wife, ‘I’m going to do a music festival.’”

In between work with Better Than Ezra, which closed its recent tour at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater, Griffin found time to launch the Pilgrimage Festival.

“What was exciting was that there was a lane for us that wasn’t already tapped,” he says. “Bonnaroo is amazing and so is CMA Fest, but the three of us grew up in New Orleans with Jazz Fest, a multi-genre day-festival, family friendly, with amazing food and drinks and an eclectic list of artists. You may see Dr. John on the same stage with Maroon 5 and people have learned to expect that. We started putting it together, and we were like ‘this doesn’t exist in Nashville.’ That got us excited and it excited the city of Franklin and the music community.” Like Jazz Fest, Griffin promises plenty of onstage musical collaborations, or “Pilgri-mashups,” at his event.

While Griffin estimates Harlinsdale Farm can hold 70,000-80,000 people per day, the goal for Pilgrimage is 10,000-15,000 per day. “We want it to be manageable on all fronts. We want people to get in and out easily. We’ve got a great traffic plan by working with the city of Franklin. Word of mouth is critical for a festival. We want people to want to come back next year and bring their friends, and part of that is we can’t bite off more than we can chew. Let’s have modest goals and make it really feel good, have plenty of room. We set out saying this is a boutique music festival, and that’s the path we followed.”

The event will have wood-clad stages to reflect the area’s history. There will be a Kitchen Stage and Sippin’ Stage designed to offer the region’s best food and drink. Griffin is proud to offer free admission for children 10 and under. Plus, Little Pilgrim’s Landing for kids will likely be the only place to see him perform, because he will be wearing a “promoter’s hat” instead.

pilgrimage artists 1

Continuing with the inspiration from Jazz Fest, Pilgrimage will end both nights at about 7:30 p.m., giving attendees time to patronize local restaurants after the festival, creating a boon for the economy. There will also be nighttime performances, which are yet-to-be-announced.

“This is all about being a community partner,” sums Griffin. “When you do that, you end up being around for 40-plus years like Jazz Fest, and it’s part of the fabric of the city. That’s a lofty goal we had. To see it work is a magical thing.”

Portions of each ticket sale will benefit the City of Franklin and Franklin Parks, and MusiCares®.

Tickets range fro $499 (2-day VIP package) to $92 (single general admission tickets). Details at pilgrimagefestival.com.

Rendering of Graystone Quarry Amphitheater

Thompson’s Station, Tenn., will soon be home to a new 5,000-seat boutique concert amphitheater and event space.

Graystone Quarry Events broke ground in July on the property, which is located at the intersection of I-65 and highways 840 and 431.

Located on 76 acres of reclaimed abandoned rock quarry in Williamson County, Graystone Quarry will include multiple entertainment options. In addition to hosting concerts, the amphitheater is slated to be used year-round for weddings and corporate events. Meanwhile, the 5,000-square-foot Hillside Pavilion can house artist meet-and-greet events. The Gathering Hall, with room to hold up to 600 (standing room), will offer a two-story space with commendable views.

A 1/2 acre plaza area will have room for gathering, dining and merchandise. The quarry is surrounded by 70-100 foot linestone cliffs.

Graystone Quarry is slated to open in 2017.
