Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam Cancelled Due To Tropical Storm Hermine

Crew works hard to strike the stage as winds begin to blow.

Crew works hard to strike the stage as winds begin to blow.

Panama City Beach, Florida officials and the organizers for the 4th annual Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam have cancelled the popular music event, due to high winds and more than five inches of rain expected on Thursday night (Sept. 1). The three-day event was scheduled to welcome Eric Church, Brad Paisley, Jake Owen and more during Labor Day, Sept. 2-4.

Though the storm is expected to have passed Panama City Beach by Friday morning, there is not enough time to deconstruct the venue, secure the stage and festival tents, and then reconstruct the performance stage and venue. The construction of the festival village and performance stage takes nearly a week to erect. The festival is expected to return in 2017.

“Safety is the first concern for our visitors, country music fans and the festival organizers and sponsors,” said Panama City Beach Mayor Mike Thomas. “I truly appreciate all the planning and work that the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam Producers, the Emergency Operations Center, PCB Police Chief Drew Whitman and city staff have done in preparation of having to make this difficult decision. We’re disappointed that we have had to cancel this weekend’s show, but hope all of the fans enjoy their weekend on the beach. We look forward to welcoming the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam back next year.”

“In 30 years of business, this is the first time I’ve even been a part of something like this,” said Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam Executive Producer Rendy Lovelady. “The owners of Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam are devastated and deeply saddened but are also humbled by the enormous love and response from our fans and the city. Now we need to turn focus to the people who are in the direct line of the storm and pray for God’s direct protection over them. This doesn’t stop us or defeat us. We’ll see you in Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam 2017!”

All tickets purchased through official Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam ticket outlets are eligible for refunds. Fans also have the option of leaving their tickets in the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam ticket system and redeeming them at next year’s festival.

Rascal Flatts have reached a touring milestone of 10 million tickets sold. The band accepted a commemorative ticket at their show in Hartford, Connecticut, on Saturday (Aug. 13) to recognize the occasion.

The trio debuted on the country chart in 2000 with “Prayin’ For Daylight.” Their newest single, “I Like the Sound of That,” became their 30th Top 10 hit and reached No. 1 this summer.

Their current Rhythm and Roots Tour continues through the fall with guests Kelsea Ballerini and Chris Lane.

Eric Church Reveals 2017 Tour, Two Nashville Concerts In May

Eric Church gave the crowd something extra to be excited about during his performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado last night (Aug. 9). The singer-songwriter revealed he will bring his 2017 Holdin’ My Own Tour to 60+ cities next year.

The tour, which launches Jan. 17 in Lincoln, Nebraska, will conclude with two shows at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on May 26 and May 27.

For this tour, Church will have no opening acts. Instead, he and his band will perform two full sets, with an intermission between.

As with previous tours, Church is committed to fighting scalping and unfair ticket prices. Church and his team have developed a new fan club pre-sale system that will allow them to remove scalpers from the pre-sale process before it even happens. Church Choir members will pre-register for the fan club pre-sale prior to it starting. Once verified, fan club members will receive buy links via text message when the pre-sale starts. Scalpers that are found to be gaming the system and posing as real fans won’t receive the buy link.

This tour features a larger allotment of fan club tickets than in the past so Church Choir members will have better success buying tickets in the pre-sale.  The Church Choir pre-sale will be the only pre-sale. There will be no venue, credit card or radio pre-sales.

New for the Holdin’ My Own Tour, Church commissioned a proprietary technology that scrubs ticket purchases using up to 10 different data points and automatically flags orders made by scalpers. Orders may be cancelled at any time and without warning. Finally, delivery of all ticket orders will be delayed until the days leading up to each show. Church hopes that this will make it impossible for scalpers to complete their transactions.

“In this era where growing inequality seems to be the norm, we wanted to do everything within our power to put the advantage back in the hands of true fans rather than those that take advantage of the system, and by extension our people,” said John Peets, Church’s manager. “It was important to us to invest time into evaluating and redesigning the ticket buying process and build the technology to level the playing field.”

Lexi Vernon & Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts

Nashville-based organization Songs for Sound was on-site at a Rascal Flatts concert on Sunday (Aug. 7) in Chicago to provide free hearing screenings for fans as well as crew members.

The organization’s founder is Jaime Vernon, who is married to the younger brother of Rascal Flatts singer Gary LeVox. The Vernons’ 8-year-old daughter, Lexi, received bilateral cochlear implants at 18 months old.

“As a musician I live and breathe music and can’t imagine a world without being able to hear,” says LeVox. “This is a cause that really hits home for me. I know Lexi lives life to the fullest, including a gift we all need – music. I’m so glad to have the Hear the Music Project come and teach our fans about the importance of healthy ears, and I’m so proud that it’s from my family.”
