The band, made up of Erika Attwater and Jonathan Richards, started recording with Peacock in January and the result is described as classic rock a la Fleetwood Mac with bluegrass flavoring. McGraw Tour Opens In Texas

Tim McGraw performs at the Houston Rodeo in March 2011.

Tim McGraw kicked off his Emotional Traffic Tour with special guests Luke Bryan and The Band Perry on Friday, April 8 in Corpus Christi, TX. The run of arenas and amphitheaters will cover at least 60 dates through August. He’s offering three different VIP packages for fan club members.
In the midst of touring, McGraw is set for an April 28 visit to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Fans can enter the “Band Bench” contest to surround the stage during his performance here (contest band code: TIM).
McGraw and his tourmates will also play an exclusive concert celebrating the 10th anniversary of SiriusXM at New York City’s Beacon Theatre on April 27. The show will air live on three SiriusXM channels, including his own “Tim McGraw Radio,” which will be available on the satcaster April 20 through April 27.

Review: McEntire Tour Ends On High Note

Backstage after the concert. (L-R) Sandi Borchetta- VP Creative Services BMR; David M. Ross- Publisher MusicRow; Reba; John Zarling- Sr. Dir. New Media; and George Briner-Dir. Ntl. Promotion.

Reba McEntire’s flawless performance delighted an April 9 Louisville, KY audience at the city’s new KFC Yum Center.
Staged in the round, the Chockie, Okie redhead’s musical portion was nestled between opener Lee Ann Womack and closer George Strait. This night was extra special because it was the tour’s final date. As the anticipation for a “first glimpse of Reba” built, video screens showed snippets from a variety of the star’s many accomplishments. Included were scenes from her first major supporting movie role, Tremors (with Kevin Bacon); a variety of hit music video edits; footage from the Broadway musical, Annie Get Your Gun; and of course a few frames from her sitcom success simply titled, Reba.
Seated in the VIP soundboard seating area was producer Tony Brown, whose sharp ears nurtured many of the hits which would be performed during the evening’s show. The lights came up. Reba seemed to float down the runway onto the stage and burst into her first Mercury Records No. 1 (1984) “Can’t Even Get The Blues.”

Big Machine President/CEO Scott Borchetta couldn't resist climbing behind the wheel of the "Fancy" cab.

Then the hits kept rolling with songs like “Fear Of Being Alone,” “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia” and the infectious blues romp, “Tell Me Why.” Lee Ann Womack re-appeared on stage and delivered a soaring vocal read with Reba on the 1993 smash “Does He Love You,” originally recorded with Linda Davis. Another standout was the Kelly Clarkson song “Because Of You.”
Just as it seemed time to move from ballads back to uptempo numbers, an oversized blond woman wearing a George Strait t-shirt with redneck jewels glued all over it and holding a Budweiser in her hand screamed and yelled as she ran to join Reba onstage. It didn’t take long to recognize Melissa Peterman the comedienne who played Barbara Jean on the Reba TV sitcom. Peterman, who incidentally will soon release a comedy album on one of the Big Machine imprints was outrageous. At one point George Strait talked over the speakers and Peterman made his mouth move on her t-shirt pretending she was a ventriloquist… Next Peterman and McEntire volleyed gags like two champion tennis players at Wimbledon. Peterman wanted to sing with Reba, then she agreed to sit quietly on a stool. Then she sang a line anyway. The sitcom chemistry worked nicely and Peterman exited to strong applause.
Reba regained control of her show singing “I’m A Survivor,” and one of her latest Valory Music No. 1 hits “On The Radio.” She worked the in-the-round setting smoothly, visiting with all four sides of the audience. Yes, the production was nice and yes, the lighting and sound were extremely well done. But omg–it was all about the vocals!
Perhaps there’s a reason why this country icon, Hall Of Famer, has 15 American Music Awards, 9 People’s Choice trophies, 7 CMA honors, 2 Grammys, sold over 55 million albums worldwide, appeared on Broadway plus had a No. 1 sitcom on two networks for six consecutive years. McEntire’s vocal instrument is a joy to experience. She exercises total control over her notes and phrases, and like an expert chief mixes just the right amount of vocal spice to flavorfully expose a song’s emotional heart.
In an unusual production touch, the encore embraced the most production elements of the set. Of course the song was “Fancy.” It began with a clip of the music video with the singer in the backseat of a cab. When the lights came on a real life yellow cab drove out onto the arena floor and up to the stage. A woman in a red dress got out (Reba) who climbed up on the stage and ripped into this chilling parable of loss and redemption.
The satisfied crowd screamed and applauded, cause Fancy did not let them down.

U2 360 Tour Is Highest Grossing In History

U2‘s current 360 tour became the highest grossing tour in history over the weekend. A sold-out concert last night (4/10) at Morumbi Stadium in Sao Paulo, Brazil pushed the tour past the previous record held by the Rolling Stones’ Bigger Bang Tour which grossed $554 million from 2005-07.
When the U2 tour finishes in Canada on July 30, the gross is expected to surpass $700 million.
There are 26 shows left on the Live Nation outing which launched in 2009. So far U2 360 has played to 5 million people worldwide, with that number expected to surpass 7 million before the tour wraps. The two-year run encompasses 110 shows in 30 countries across five continents.
Promoter and producer Arthur Fogel pointed out that the band’s in-the-round transportable stadium production set can accommodate more fans in the stands. He says, “The extra capacity that the U2 360 creates also allows for a large number, several thousand in fact, of low priced tickets at every show.”
But this massive, cutting edge production is costly reminds U2’s manager Paul McGuinness, who says “the band spend enormous sums on production for their audience.”

Summer Touring Headed For An Upswing

Kenny Chesney is planning a full-scale tour after a year off the road.

In 2010, summer touring took a downhill turn, but as the weather warms up, so do the predictions for this year’s concert biz.
After a year off the road, Kenny Chesney is mounting a major outing, sharing billing on the stadium dates with Zac Brown Band. Big stars like Chesney and Brown, who may have toured separately in a booming economy, are teaming up for dates in big venues to boost ticket sales. George Strait and Reba are co-headlining a tour that was one of Billboard Boxscore’s Top 25 Tours of 2010.
The Strait/Reba package, Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood are among the country stars who successfully navigated 2010’s touring slump, though some had more special guests than others. Underwood didn’t need another big name to sell tickets to her tour, she flew solo on her headlining arena run, playing to over a million fans.
Venturing overseas is another way acts are thriving on the road. Alan Jackson performed a series of shows in Australia for the first time in his career last month. And Aussie Keith Urban is currently leading a tour Down Under with guests Lady Antebellum.
One of the hottest acts of the year, Taylor Swift has been on a worldwide outing and is back in the states, continuing her sell-out run. She concluded the overseas leg with a sold-out show in London, and simultaneously added 16 new dates to the North American portion of the tour, which kicks off May 27. When that leg wraps just before Thanksgiving, she will have headlined 97 stadium and arena shows around the world in 2011.
High ticket prices were one of the factors fueling last year’s touring downturn. Since December, commentators like The New York Post have been predicting lower ticket prices for this season.
Chesney manager Clint Higham told the Wall Street Journal that the singer lowered lawn seat prices from $40 in 2009, to about $30 for this year. Higham added that his superstar increased the number of dates, up from 45 to 60, to make up the difference at the box office. He says Chesney’s ticket sales are already up 15%, thanks partly to taking last year off and “being missed.”
Manager Ken Levitan also talked to the Wall Street Journal for the new article. He says that artists are cutting corners to lower touring costs. “We might be jamming more people on fewer buses, or doing a little less pyro on stage,” he told the paper.
“Our merch numbers are very strong,” he added, “and that’s a good sign of a little more disposable income out there.” He pointed out that his client Kid Rock has been moving about $14 a head in merch, where $10 would be considered strong. In keeping with the current trend that two acts are better than one, Kid Rock will be pairing with Sheryl Crow for a summer outing.

On Tour: Toby Keith; Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson; Jason Aldean

(l-r) Big Kenny, Gretchen Wilson, John Rich

Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson will hit the road for Xtreme Muzik The Tour beginning June 18. The show will visit over 30 cities, and will include special guests Cowboy Troy and Two Foot Fred.
Sharing one eight-piece band on a custom stage that includes, of course, a fully-operational bar as the centerpiece, the unique show will offer something to fans rarely seen in modern touring – the co-headliners will rarely leave the stage and will join in on each other’s songs.

Toby Keith’s Locked & Loaded Tour Presented by Ford F-Series will kick off June 30 in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Capitol Nashville recording artist Eric Church will join him as a special guest. More than 30 dates are already confirmed with a total of 44 US cities being scheduled, including stops in Washington DC, Los Angeles and West Palm Beach. In addition, 12 cities in Europe will be added to the itinerary, marking Keith’s first return to the area to perform since his 2009 sold out World’s Toughest Tour.
The tour will feature nearly 1000 square feet of video screens, a giant “T” shaped ramp which will house the “Club T” party pit and an extravagant pyrotechnic display. Once again the Hellraiser Super Saver ticket will be offered to ensure that there is a “great seat for every budget.” Keith’s 2010 American Ride Tour ranked as one of Pollstar’s top outings of the year, bringing more than a million fans to venues across the continent to see the show.

Jason Aldean

Jason Aldean’s My Kinda Party Tour will play over 38 dates following the ACM Awards (4/3 in Las Vegas) and ending on August 27 in Chicago. Aldean’s album with the same name includes his three-week No. 1 single “Don’t You Wanna Stay” with Kelly Clarkson.
Nominated for ACM Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist, it is no surprise that Aldean will perform on the ACM Award show. In fact, he plans to debut his next single, “Dirt Road Anthem.”
“I always get excited to test new songs out on the road,” said Aldean. “This one is a little different because it kicks off with the chorus, so everyone starts sorta grooving along with it…and then we hit that first verse with the rapid fire lyrics, and the fans go nuts. I know we’re pushing some boundaries with a song like this, but I also think people expect that from me now. I’m really taking the fans’ lead on this one, but I think it’s going to be a killer single for us on the road this summer.” Listen to the song HERE.
